  1. If you don't care at all about Marquette basketball, why are you trying to tell people who do what they should want?
  2. I don't see why Marquette would hire Knight. They don't seem to need a guy with a squeaky-clean sanctions rep, and other than that, there's no real reason to hire him. No one will come play for that huge of a $*+@%%@!!, and his success is far in the past anyway. He's made the Sweet 16 once in the last 14 years. If alumni and fans were upset about Crean not having tourney success, why would they be more forgiving of one of the least likable sports figures of the past 50 years?
  3. Pedro's been throwing in the 80's for a few years now. He seems to have adapted to his reduced velocity, at least to an extent.
  4. He's been there for 19 years, iirc. If he wanted to leave, I would think he would have already done it.
  5. How is WSU a better job? That doesn't really make sense unless you value country living. Marquette is even a more prestigious university.
  6. Marquette made Crean one of the top paid coaches in the country and they have great facilities and fan support. They should be able to get someone pretty good, at least I hope. I hope they stay far away from guys like O'Neil (I can't see them having any interest in him after he screwed them back in the day), Knight and Majerus. Get a young guy who can be there for awhile or a top guy like Calipari. He may be a scumbag but he is a great recruiter. i'd love to see some 5-star recruits coming to the state. Other than a guy like him, I would prefer Tony Bennett. Also, if Pat Summitt would come to Marquette (which she wouldn't), she would be a great hire. Recruiting may be a little difficult at first, but she can really coach and has the respect of everybody else in basketball.
  7. That looks like a cool idea, but that bump near the middle of the bat looks a little suspect: http://www.metalwoodbats.com/shared/content/home_random/home-background1.jpg
  8. Funny that two disappointing Brewers from last year faced off on opening Day.
  9. The only athletes I've seen driving around are Sam Cassell (who had a chauffeured sedan of some sort, I can't recall) and Glenn Robinson, who had a Lincoln Navigator on 20s that was painted with that cool purple/orange color change paint. I used to see a Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph around town that was rumored to belong to Tim Thomas, but I never saw him with it, so I don't know for sure.
  10. I have a vague recollection that Crean was rumored to be taking over a Big 10 program in the past, maybe even Indiana before they hired Sampson?
  11. Crean was paid excellently by Marquette and they have a good team in a good conference. They should be able to get a good coach, I would think. I wonder if Bennett would be interested in coming back to his home state. I hope they take a shot at least.
  12. Last I had heard, Bennett made $350,000 a year in Pullman. FTJ says $700,000. He must have gotten a raise this year, but regardless. That's pretty good, but (for example) Oregon's coach makes $1.3 million per.
  13. Angel Salome will likely hit enough to be a major league catcher. I don't think the catching situation is as dire as most people seem to. I also don't get the long-standing fascination of so many people (media, fans, baseball people) with Gerald Laird. He seems to suck pretty bad, or even extremely badly.
  14. I can imagine why he'd want to leave. They are in a power conference but they aren't a power team, they are pretty remote from the rest of the conference (they're practically in Idaho), and they don't pay competitively. Also, their athletic department budget is apparently sub-par. That said, I can see why he'd want to stay as well. They gave him (and his father) a shot, he may like the city, he may like the players, etc.
  15. You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC, for the same reason. Otherwise it's currently a tie between Sweet Jane (Original) by the Velvet Underground and Queen B***h by David Bowie.
  16. Hi- I just got a new (which is to say, old) car and I want to get a new stereo for it because the one in it is just a bare-bones CD player. I don't want to go the whole amps & subwoofers route (I need the storage space in the car), but I would like to get a nice stereo. What I'm looking for are mainly 2 features: 1. Ability to play AAC audio CDs (and DVDs, if that's possible) and give the track information on the display. 2. TRS input I would also like a detachable face because I hate having my car broken into (it's such a hassle), and maybe one of those little TV screens that slide out of the radio (if they still make those). Does anybody know if a stereo with those features is available, or where a good place to buy one is? I wouldn't say that money is no object, but I wouldn't mind spending a good amount.
  17. Unless it's some kind of April Fool's Day prank or something but that wouldn't make much sense. First thing up is some kind of power tool battery.
  18. ... will it be their season high-water mark for hits and runs in a game? When a team has Randy Winn and Bengie Molina as their 3 and 4 hitters, it seems possible.
  19. Glad you found one you like that was in your price range. Good luck with it! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. I assume both offers would be for around $45-$55 million, 5 years (including 08) for Prince, 7 years (including 08) for Ryan. That seems fair to me but I don't know if either guy will be interested. It would be hard to turn down that kind of guaranteed money though. One thing that could work in Milwaukee's favor is Prince's desire to outdo Cecil in everything. According to bb-ref, Cecil made about $47 million in salary in his career. If the Brewers offer him something that tops that, I could see him being interested so that he is guaranteed to surpass Cecil in salary.
  21. I hope that he does well, but I think it may be unlikely. Also, Gross seems to deserve some PT. He's an above average hitter for a CF and seems to be able to handle it adequately defensively.
  22. Yeah, how did he break his hand on LaPorta's head?
  23. Dillon, I hope. Choate is not the worst pitcher around, but Dillon is (imo) a very useful piece off the bench.
  24. Martin D-28. Unfortunately, those are quite a bit more expensive than $400. I would try something like this or this. I've heard good things about the telecoustic (which has a really small neck, by the way). Here's a cheap Martin which might be worth a look. I can't believe they would put their name on crap so it might be worth a shot (here's a blemished one of the same thing, which is cheaper). Here's a Gretsch, which are usually worth owning.
  25. I sincerely doubt that Gabe Kapler or Tony Gwynn Jr will ever start a game for Braun this year, and I doubt Braun, if healthy is out of the lineup for more than 3 or 4 games at most. I didn't mean they would get starts over him (I hope even Ned isn't that crazy), just that Ned would fall in love with using them as defensive replacements too early.
