  1. I assume he just meant that the Brewers have Braun under control for 6 more years and used arb-eligible as a shorthand way to say that.
  2. damn, guess there is a time limit on the deals. Back up to $30 now.
  3. Do people really sim their dynasties out 30 years? well, maybe not. However, with baseball, that's barely half of a guy's career. I guess for $20 though, you can't go wrong. I'll order one. My wife will get a kick out of the cutesy graphics.
  4. That games sounds very intriguing but if it is such an in-depth simulator, why does the dynasty mode last only 10 years? If it lasted the standard 30 seasons, I'd buy it with no reservations, otherwise I'm thinking of MLB 2K8.
  5. word is that the coaches will now be paid and the trip is back on.
  6. Well, MLB had apparently agreed to pay the coaches, so how is it the Red Sox who were holding MLB hostage? It was MLB trying to save a half million bucks by gambling that the players wouldn't care. They lost that bet, so now we'll see what they do.
  7. The Sox all caught the Red Flu, I see. I'm just kidding, I think it's nice that they're standing up for the coaches.
  8. Ok, I've been thinking about this. Does this signing help or hurt the value of Capuano, Vargas, and Bush? On the one hand, teams were only willing to pay 4+ million for a year of a guy whose career performance has been about league average for a starter. Vargas has been slightly worse over his career, Bush and Capuano slightly better. All are approximately the same age- late 20s, so forecasting a breakout for any of them would likely be wishful thinking. Getting Bush, Capuano or Vargas would cost players in addition to money. On the other hand, now there is one less (roughly) league average starter available. I don't know. I can see how Lohse's signing affects the supply of pitchers, but what I don't get is why demand would suddenly sky-rocket when the cost of any of the 3 Brewers will likely be higher (when accounting for salary plus the player(s) traded away) than the price was for Lohse. It seems we are counting on a couple injuries to occur in order to goose the market.
  9. The lack of interest in Lohse may bode poorly for the return the Brewers would get for dealing a mediocre pitcher or two.
  10. Munson sucks. Rivera has a bad obp, but otherwise doesn't suck. Rottino might not suck but his defense is poor. I think Rivera should win in 2008. If it's Rottino, I won't be all that mad, though I think he would best be used as a jack-of-all-trades rather than be married to the backup catcher spot. If it's Munson, I'll be upset.
  11. 1. Hard Boiled- no question in my mind. Chow Yun-Fat's body count in this movie has to be a couple hundred, at least. 2. Infernal Affairs- I love this movie, was disappointed when Scorsese remade it. 3. Run Lola Run- great movie, underrated 4. Yojimbo- excellent film, features Toshiro Mifune in an iconic role 5. The Maltese Falcon (1941) - started film noir, Bogart in one of his best roles (Casablanca & The Big Sleep are his others, imo) 5.-tie- The Usual Supects- Keyser Söze is an all-time great character If you say Hard Boiled and The Maltese Falcon don't count because the main guys are fighting against gangsters, then I would probably throw Scarface (1983) in there, despite the fact that it drags at many points and should be an hour or so shorter, and probably Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or maybe Mean Streets, Menace II Society, or The Godfather I or II. I like Casino, I just think it drags even worse than Scarface. Goodfellas is weak, imo. I actually prefer Donnie Brasco and Carlito's Way if you're looking for movies about snitches. edit: fixed formatting. I forgot that yuku doesn't work with Safari.
  12. Joe's Garage is ok, nothing too special though, imo. You could see if anything is going on at 1st Avenue (the famous concert venue), though I don't think there is. You could go to karaoke at The Gay '90s. There're all kinds of nightclubs (and stripclubs) and restaurants around, I don't know what you are into though. The Timberwolves are playing on Tuesday, seeing another city's arena is always cool, I think. You could always go over to the campus and see if anything is going on. I know there is a faculty flute recital and a Jazz concert on campus this monday. The Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival is showing two films on Monday at the Oak St. Cinema. There is an exhibit on suburbia at the Walker Art Center that sounds interesting, though I haven't seen it yet. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts has a Japanese art exhibit going on, and an otherwise formidable collection as well. Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars are playing at the Guthrie Theater on Monday. Altan is playing on Tuesday at the Cedar Cultural Center. There is an ongoing Animation exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota, which also has an IMAX screen. The Wild are playing at the Xcel Center on Tuesday. Finally, there are 4 college baseball games at the Metrodome on Monday, which also features rollerskating on its upper concourse on Monday evenings.
  13. The Amusement Park in the mall isn't affiliated with Snoopy and them anymore. Also, the only real reason to go to the mall is to shop, so bring plenty of money. There is no tax on clothes in Minnesota, so keep that in mind. I never go there anymore unless there is something specific I need from one of the stores because it's basically just a big-ass mall that is always crowded, but it can be fun to see it for the first time. It's kind of a gigantic shrine to commercialism and consumption, so it's really a perfect American vacation spot.

  15. wasn't Fielder on an SI cover last year? Not as the main story but as an inset? I seem to remember that.
  16. I'm with Dhonks, I don't think I've ever had any ramen. I'm kind f intrigued by this thread though, maybe I'll pick up a few packages. when I was in college, I lived on Hot Pockets, Tato Skins, Squirt, Kit Kats, Papa John's, and Domino's. Not very healthy, but I have few regrets! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. you only have to get a tat somewhere that is easily covered if you are worried about what people think. If you don't care, get one anywhere. I've been thinking of getting a big left forearm piece, but I haven't decided what to get yet. speaking of being a lifeguard, my brother was a lifeguard until a couple weeks ago and he has the most hideous jailhouse tattoo of the bat signal. I don't know how he walked around with it showing all day. When I was a lifeguard I didn't have any tattoos. edit: also, the rabbit's feet look kind of like a certain part of a man's anatomy, imo. Other than that though, pretty cute.
  18. I can't decide if I like this show or not. On the one hand, it's kind of interesting. On the other, I hate the Dianne Wiest character and Byrne's reliance on her is inexplicable. Also, I think some (much?) of the dialogue is stilted and unlikely, but I think that's to be expected in a show so dialogue heavy (for an example, see any David Mamet play/film).
  19. People shouldn't keep saying "we have no reason to believe Villanueva will continue to pitch well", imo. What we don't have is reason to expect he won't pitch well. He just turned 24 and has never had an ERA above 4 in his career, including his 2 partial seasons in Milwaukee. He may not be "sexy" like a Mark Rogers or Jeremy Jeffress but he has gotten results at every level, which I believe means he's earned a solid spot in the rotation. If he sucks, demote him, but that doesn't seem likely given his track record. His stuff may not be great but he's figured out a way to get it done at every level so far. I think his peripherals are bound to improve.
  20. It's clearly some kind of attempt at a joke. He has the Red Sox at 15. I guess he might just be trying to point out the absurdity of preseason rankings, but I'm not going to wade through that to try find out exactly what he had in mind.
  21. I avoided clicking on this thread all day because I figured there would be a bunch of people in here complaining about how the NBA sucks, like there are in every NBA thread at bf.net. Sure enough....
  22. That's what I take it to mean as well. anyway, I've seen Weezer described as emo in numerous places, and Pinkerton is considered by many to be the epitome of the 90's emo scene.
  23. I like all of Weezer's albums, it's just that I'm not generally a fan of emo (unless you count Husker Du), so I'm somewhat ashamed of liking them.
