  1. sucks that the Brewers could/should have had the top two prospects in the FSL. Of course, it doesn't mean a whole lot until these guys are in the majors, but still.
  2. I've not been in either camp on Rogers, I always thought that since the Brewers have him for awhile, there is no need for panic. I agree with Al that it's better to have a guy with Rogers's stuff than a guy with a 2 ERA but an 85 mph fastball. However, my point was that it was natural to be pessimistic about a guy with a 6+ ERA and no control, especially after Gold and Jones and Neugebauer all ruined their arms. A guy like Neugebauer is pretty much a clone of Rogers, and Nick had much more success (ERA wise and k/9 wise) in A ball. Jones and Gold didn't really fit that profile but still were first round RHPs out of HS who ruined their arms. Was it Albert Einstein who that said that the definition if insanity is to keep trying the same thing but expecting different results (which fits Yost batting Jenkins against LHPs very well, btw)? I don't think drafting HS pitchers quite rises to that level, but I can see why some people would.
  3. A lot of people seem pretty smug about all this, for some reason. Mark is doing OK in A ball, it's not like he's in the majors. It seems too early for smugness, especially when the concerns that people had/have about Rogers seemed to center on the fact that the Brewers have had no luck at all shepherding HS pitchers to the majors, and that Rogers fit the mold of many of the previous guys they had (hard throwers, no control). All of us hope that Rogers will break the mold, and people were definitely overreacting to his bad play over his first year and a half or so, considering that the Brewers control him for a few years yet, but being pessimistic about HS pitchers is , imo, totally reasonable, especially when they have an ERA of 6 or so in A ball.
  4. this is encouraging, but Mark is still a few years away from MLB. A lot can still go wrong. I hope for the best.
  5. these are good questions. I seem to remember that in past years, people would publish draft recaps that mentioned interesting guys who got drafted (sons of former players, former little league heroes, top recruits from other sports, etc.) in the later rounds. For example, I remember hearing that Bozo the Clown's grandson got drafted last year. If we could find something like that for this year, that would be ideal.
  6. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to complain, I just wanted to make sure somebody else had noticed.
  7. so, nothing going on with this? I only ask because I really liked the feature.
  8. Hey guys- Just thought I'd let you know that there seems to be a problem with the Power 50 player tracker. A technical difficulties logo come up when you click on the link. You may already know that there is a problem, but I thought I'd let you know just in case. I tried it like a month ago and the same thing happened. Of course, it could just be my computer (I'm using IE).
  9. Mass- today is wednesday. EDIT: Thanks! - Jim
  10. I have it, and the book doesn't say that the Brewers gave up the most singles in front of RF last season. It actually has them doing better than league average. The average team gave up 109 hits in front of the RF last year (home and road). The Brewers gave up 100. Dewan does have Geoff as the best RF in the NL, although the 4th best overall. He ranks toward the bottom in arm rating, despite leading RFs in baserunner kills. People took a lot of extra bases on him. I'll post more in depth on what the book says about the Brewers later, right now I have to fill out some forms.
  11. that would help the Yankees immensely. Williams is toast and the Yanks have better DH options (namely, Carlos Pena and Andy Phillips. Or, pretty much anyone at all in AAA.). Or, they could make a trade and easily upgrade the easiest to upgrade position there is in baseball. Instead, they are content to have a guy with a .307 on-base and .317 slugging % get the majority of the DH at-bats. That spot is killing them, I don't understand why they won't address it.
  12. It's what the Mets did with Lima last week. Although the wisdom of that was debatable. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Corey Hart with the walk-off home run in Nashville.
  14. I see Nelson Cruz played in CF today. Does anyone know how many times he's done that and/or how he's looked doing it? I really hope he can be the CF of the future.
  15. Rivera and Cruz are playing great. Rivera seems to be too good for AAA, despite his lack of walks. I would think that a .280-.300 OBP would be excusable for a catcher who could slug .450-.500. Many catchers put up that horrible of an OBP anyway (I'm looking at Moeller) and don't have anywhere near the power.
  16. congratulations Brian. I just saw it, pretty cool.
  17. I tend to agree with BadgerFan. Sometimes it seems like new threads are really discouraged here. At the same time, I sympathize with the idea of keeping a board free of knee-jerk reactions and superfluous threads. Both of you make good points. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I'm ecstatic that they resigned Mike Rivera. I'm not counting on him to do anything next year, but I feel that there is at least the possibility that he is a good player. Allow me to repost something I posted in another thread: It appears to me that his development curve may have been disrupted by being used as a backup for 3 years. If that is the case, he could still end up being a servicable backup option, even with the low OBP.
  19. thanks for doing all that work again Mass. You make the daily link report a daily must read.
  20. me too. He should be starting in RF tomorrow for the Brewers. It would be nice to give Jenkins another couple days off, and Ned apparently feels that Corey is too bad defensively and Chris is too bad offensively to give Geoff any extended (2-3 day) rest.
  21. wow, what an ending. Congratulations to the 2005 Pacicfic Coast League Champions, the Nashville Sounds. 2 outs in the top of the 13th, Corey Hart reaches on an error by the SS. Zuniga draws a clutch 8 pitch walk to bring the best hitter on the team up, and Cruz comes through with a 3-run homer. 2nd straight year that Cruz has been on the PCL Championship winning team. CALL THIS MAN UP! edit: forgot to mention that Evert (who pitched the 11th, 12th, and 13th!) struck out former minor league fan favorite Bucky Jacobsen to end the game.
  22. We include the parent club in every Link Report Daily Menu. Check out the second post in this thread... ....and that's why I feel stupid.
  23. Is Prince in the game too?
  24. so, do we think that Ned will sit his honey Lyle down any time before the 8th in order to get Prince some PT? Or will he leave Lyle in till then for "defensive purposes"?
