  1. If it's a scale of 10, I'd give it a 2 or so, meaning I'd wear it only if I was painting a house or committing a robbery.
  2. I'm looking forward to getting the Sonic game next week. I decided to just wait and get that rather than waste (apparently) money on Wii Play. I'm so desperate for a new game, I still almost want it, despite all the terrible reviews. Anyway, has anyone heard anything about Sonic? It seems like it will be cool, but I read a few interviews with the creators and it seems like it started out as just another cynical money-grab (ie, they said that porting the PS3/X360 version to the Wii would have taken too long, so they decided a whole new game would be easier to do. That wouldn't necessarily worry me except for the fact that that game got devestatingly bad reviews, which makes me wonder why they would think anybody would want it ported to the Wii.). It seems like the people in control of Sonic don't care about actualy making a good or enjoyable game, but rather just care about attaching the Sonic name to as many things as possible and hoping that people with fond memories of previous games will give them their money. Obviously, everybody cares about money, but it's disappointing to see the difference between Sega and Nintendo on this. If you buy a Mario, Zelda, Metroid, or Pokemon game, you know that it will at least be well-made and entertaining. Nintendo cares about the long-term health of it's brands. Sega does not seem to. I hope I'm just being pessimisticc though and the new Sonic will reverse a long trend of bad games.
  3. I'm a pro in Tennis, Bowling, and Golf. I haven't played the boxing much (I don't like the controls for it). I'm pretty bad at the baseball because I suck at pitching, so I'm only at like 450 in that. I love the mini-games, they add a lot of replayability. I'm ready for a new big game to come out though. I have the 4 I bought on launch day (Zelda, Monkey Ball, Marvel, Tony Hawk) but I want more. WarioWare seems more like a gimmick than a game to me and I'm not into Rayman. Wii Play will hopefully be fun, but I want Mario or Metroid or even Sonic to come out. I'm also looking forward to Cooking Mama, I think my wife would get a kick out of that.
  4. Good luck Geno. Get well soon.
  5. not exactly true, if I remember correctly.
  6. No kidding. I went to Best Buy yesterday to pick up a new universal remote and I stopped by the video game section oln the off chance that they might have a classic controller. However, the Wii section was totally bereft. The only things there were a couple game cases. The system has been out for two months and you still can't find any accessories! It's starting to get annoying. Meanwhile though, there were several PS3s sitting across the aisle. I almost bought one but then I realized that I didn't really even want one and thus I couldn't justify the $600 (which I would have a lot more fun with spending it on Wii games anyway).
  7. That's what counts. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif edit: I see that Zelda: A Link To The Past came out today for virtual console. No Mario RPG though, as was rumored.
  8. Does anyone know how you can register the Virtual Console games on nintendo.com? You usually register games by finding a little serial # on an insert that comes with the game but obviously there is no insert for a downloaded game. I was just registering some games I have had for awhile last night and registering some of them unlocks some cool features. I'd like to see what gets unlocked for the virtual console games but I can't find the code. Can anyone help? edit: Never mind, I found a FAQ on Nintendo's site that said that if you email their tech support, they will take care of it.
  9. I just heard about this woman who dies last week trying to win a Wii for her kids. Apparently you were supposed to drink as much water as possible. This woman died after placing 2nd in the contest. I apologize if anyone else has posted this, but it's just so crazy. link: www.latimes.com/news/loca...-headlines
  10. So I downloaded Wario's Woods and ToeJam and Earl yesterday. Wario's Woods seems pretty cool, it's a pretty original puzzle game. ToeJam and Earl, however, was a bit of a disappointment. I guess not every classic game ages as well as the Mario games do..
  11. never mind I figured it out. Pretty cool to be on the net on your tv (I realize this was possible before, but I never did it). So, has anyone bought Sim City from the virtual console? I really want to get it but I have no idea if it is a good version of it or not. I only played it on computers, never on a console. The other games I want (that are available so far) are Bomberman '93 and Toe Jam and Earl. The stupid classic controllers are never at any store I go to though so I guess I have to wait. Also, Mario 64 might be cool, but I never liked it when it first came out. I've never really gotten into 3D platformers. I just realized that they have the original Legend of Zelda on there too. That could be fun, but it's been so long since I played it that I have no memory of whether I liked it or not.
  12. How do you connect the Wii to the internet? I just got DSL and am trying to connect. The Wii won't recognize a wireless connection or a wired USB connection. What do I do? The Wii does locate my wireless network, it just won't connect.
  13. hi everybody, I just have one quick question about Zelda: How do you put the honey (or whatever that stuff is) on the hook? Whenever I try, Link just drinks the honey. If someone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. It's been frustrating. Other than that though, the game has been really fun. I finally got some time to play it yesteday and it is easily one of the best games I've played.
  14. russ, I actually kind of like the fact that you can make smaller movements to play the games. Otherwise it would be very difficult for 4 people to play at the same time in most living rooms/dens/bedrooms. For example, to swing a tennis racket or bat, you need probably a 3-4 foot radius just to make sure you don't hit anything. Many games would be impossible, at least in many houses. Plus, having to do full swings would make those 7-8 hour marathon sessions very taxing. However, if you want to do full swings, you can. It works either way. If it's more aesthetically pleasing to people to take a full swing, they easily can. That said, I do wish the controller was slightly more responsive in some of the Wii Sports games (in particular I'd like to be able to control the speed of the ball better in tennis and what kind of punch I throw better in boxing). I hope this is a limitation of the games and not the controller. Overall, Wii Sports is very fun and the golf and bowling are excellent. Tennis is fun but limited, baseball is ok but is basically on the level of a yahoo.com game and I haven't used the boxing enough to get a real feel for it yet but it seems very, very cool (there is an arcade boxing game out that uses motion sensing technology. I can't remember the name of it but it is fun and Wii Boxing reminds me a bit of it).
  15. If the Mets are really counting on Shawn Green next year, I will be very disappointed. He's become pretty terrible and arguably cost them a championship this year with his atrocious fielding. He should be a bench player at best.
  16. woo-hoo, got one. I've been asleep all day but I just woke up to play Wii. It is pretty freaking cool. (They were out of nunchuks though, so I only have one of those). All I've played so far is Wiisports because I want to check the reviews of the other games that I bought first. Speaking of which, does anyone know where I could find some reviews of Monkey Ball, Zelda, Marvel Alliance and Tony Hawk? I checked GameFaqs but they don't seem to have updated recently.
  17. I've always liked Cuddyer but the time to get him would have been a couple years ago. Now everybody knows he is good and it will take a lot to get him.
  18. Yeah, you asked that, but then you went on to say: which seemed to me to speak of Japanese pitchers in general. Plus, how many exclusive rights guys have there even been? 4? 5? Even that many? It's too small of a sample to make broad judgments. My point is that just because Kwame Brown sucks, that doesn't stop you from taking LeBron James #1 in the draft.
  19. Yeah, you're right, if you don't count Saito and Otsuka and Sasaki and Hasegawa. Those are 4 well-above average pitchers and none were considered anything on the level of Matsuzaka. It looks to me like about 14 veteran NPB pitchers have come over to America. Many were near the end of their careers or journeyman types anyway. And 5 of them have been excellent in MLB. Takatsu, Murakami and Yoshii also had good years. Even Irabu was good for a year. I think you are underrating Japanese players. The sample size is small and there hasn't been a true ace to come over from Japan yet. However, I think Matsuzaka could be one. Ohka is another good pitcher from Japan, although he didn't play in NPB.
  20. If they would take Davis, I would do it. Davis is comparable to Zito, who they supposedly are going to offer $100 million for. Davis could be signed for much, much less than that. However, they might prefer to spend the $100 million and hold on to Milledge. Actually, Davis for Milledge seems to make sense for both teams. The question is whether Davis would be a big enough name to sooth Mets fans who would be upset after all the Milledge hype and the Kazmir debacle. I don't think he is.
  21. wow, I guess SD really wanted to pair up the Giles's, huh? I wonder why, I never had the feeling that baseball fans really follow local guys that much like they do in basketball and football, probably because college baseball is not on the level of the other 2 college sports. This trade could really help the Braves, but if Salty pans out, it could really help SD too. OTOH, why did SD give up their stud C prospect in an earlier deal (Kottaras, I believe)?
  22. This reminds me of a banquet I was at at the Pfister one time. I was sitting next to the superintendent of MPS and they had one of those placesettings with 3 forks. The salad came and I asked him if he knew which was the salad fork. He had no idea either, and he surely had to go to tons of banquets and dinners and stuff.
  23. Interesting breakdown. Thanks for taking the time. I've often wondered about how different players do against good pitchers. Prince especially seemed to get most of his home runs off crap pitchers, but I may just be giving that game against Glendon Rusch too much weight in my mind.
  24. The NBA does do this, and has done it at least since all the cocaine scandals hit pro sports in the '80s. The NBA's rookie seminar is mandatory for all rookies and, iirc, it lasts about a week. Yeah, I just found an article, they started it in 1986 and it lasts 6 days. Basically, it sounds like a really intense, week-long college orientation coupled with a few adult education courses. From what I've heard of it, it sounds like a good program. link: www.nba.com/news/rtp_030919.html
  25. I'm not trying to be insulting, but why would a team even want Krynzel as a throw in in a trade? I could see a team being interested in Hendrickson as camp fodder, but Krynzel? Aren't there dozens of guys like him around? Maybe someone will be interested because he was a first round pick.
