  1. when did counsell change his stance? he changed his stance? I hadn't noticed. What's it look like now?
  2. Hey, loss 82. It's official, 12 straight losing seasons. It was official before they threw the first pitch this season.
  3. unless you are counting 10 plate appearances I was, sorry for the confusion. When you are afraid of him or intentionally walk him, you are inflating his numbers to the point that they will further scare others down the road that's probably true, but he is slugging over .800. Him and Babe Ruth are the only guys to ever do that.
  4. According to the AP, Yost has told pitchers to use common sense. Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ``My whole philosophy is if he's going to hurt you to a point where you can't recover, then you can't pitch to him,'' Yost said. ``Just let common sense rule. In reality, 6.25 times out of 10, he's going to make an out. Statistics say that.'' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Translation: Walk him if you must - otherwise challeneg him - more often than not, he will make an out. Preferably two. actually, hasn't he only made an out 5.7 times out of 10 in his career?
  5. back to the stuff about Barry possibly passing Hank, here are Barry's thoughts on the matter: Hank blazed the trail in that respect for me, but Jackie Robinson blazed it for all of us. Hank was the last crusader from the old Negro Leagues, a real pioneer. It was Jackie and Hank and Willie Mays. They're our pioneers as African-Americans. They were No. 1. They will always be No. 1 because they're the people who changed the game and allowed it to be as diverse as it is today. So matter what I do, in my mind, they will be No. 1. Always. That's part of history, like the first American president. Hopefully, I will just be a part of baseball history. But I won't be the first one, no matter whether I wind up hitting more home runs and passing Hank statistically. link: barrybonds.mlb.com/player...atest.html nice sentiments, I think.
  6. yeah, except his OPS against in the first inning is .821. He must be really good in innings 2 and 3 though. link: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/pl...&year=2004
  7. This is how he's done it all year long. It's the 1 extra inning they try to push him which inflates his numbers. yeah, I checked Wes's splits and he has a .700 OPS against in the first 3 innings and a .965 OPS against in the next 3 innings. However, that suggests to me that he sucks.
  8. yeah, get a good 5 out of him and take him out.
  9. It saddens me more that the offensive era, smaller parks and possible roids use(I'll wait till its proven to remove the possible) made it easier for Barry. I disagree with this. Barry is much like Hank in that he never had the 50 home run season (well, Barry has had one now). He was much more than a power hitter too. His 76% stolen base rate is the same as Mays and Barry has stolen 500+ at a 78% rate. Hank was great and is my favorite historical player, but Barry is better (though it kind of pains me to admit).
  10. I will be sad if Bonds passes Henry. I will be too, but I also really like Barry and records are made to be broken. Hank will still be a legend no matter how many people eventually pass him.
  11. the link is way down at the bottom right of the home page. Its called the "fansite alliance'.
  12. Just curious if anybody knows why Davis has the initials M.S. on the side of his cap? I've been wondering that as well.
  13. I saw in the JS that they were expecting 30,000. That seems low to me, but I guess it is a school night. They did say that the right-field seats were sold out though.
  14. I think it'll come tonight off of Davis. Bonds crushes lefties (well, he crushes everyone) and I think Davis will leave a fastball up in the zone some time tonight.
  15. Only one label could be better, tying two Simpsonisms together "Handsome B. Wonderful: Secretary of Keepin' it Real". I think that "Hootie McBoob: Secretary of Keepin' it Real" would be better, but that's nit-picking. Also, about the "Chief Executive of Runnin (censored)", where is that from? Because I know some square guy that used to call himself that too.
  16. I voted No way, but I don't think its a stupid idea or anything. i just personally don't like fantasy sports and also I haven't noticed many people posting fantasy threads in the off-topic forum.
  17. (in which case Branyan would go to right, and the Brewers make do with Helms at third). But Branyan's value comes from him playing 3rd. Also, Clark is better than Helms, why would we want Helms getting more time?
  18. Russ Branyan has a .960 OPS at this moment. He has only a .328 OBP but makes up for that (boy does he ever!) with a .632 Slg%. He's striking out 40% of the time, which is cool. If he had 500 ABs this year he would have 210 strikeouts and 48 homers and 39 doubles. I would be perfectly fine with that. Hell, I would be fine with 410 Ks if a guy hit 48 homers.
  19. I love the job he's doing and fear anyone else brought in would be inferior. I think I'd rather have a smart guy be manager. A guy like Mike Maddux would be perfect, although pitching coaches don't seem to become managers very often. Of course, my dream scenario is for Rickey to be hired as player-manager, but that won't happen.
  20. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Yost get fired. I've been saying that for two years. I hope it happens but I doubt it will.
  21. Yost said the Brewers are putting Hendrickson on a pitch count for the rest of the season because he's thrown 150+ innings or something like that, that's why he got the early hook. makes sense, imo, especially considering what usually happens to Brewers pitching prospects. That still doesn't explain why De La Rosa won't get to start anymore though.
  22. It probably shouldn't bother me too much, but I just get irritated every time I see Billy Hall in the #2 hole in the order. I feel your pain. I want someone else in there too, but then I reassure myself by thinking of all the studies that say batting order doesn't matter.
  23. I wonder what it would take to get Wily Mo? He's a very interesting player but they would probably want too much to make it worth the Brewers while.
  24. I think having Bennett catch Lil Ben's 1st game was a huge mistake. Bennett can't block balls in the dirt, thus Ben couldn't throw his curve out of the zone and he got hammered. If Moeller catches tonight, I think he'll pitch well. If its Bennett, Ben'll get knocked around.
  25. why the hell do you keep harping on this? Did Santos sleep with your mom or something? He's been pitching well and he's cheap, why dump him?
