  1. Vuckovich was never that great in Milwaukee. the best seasons by a Milwaukee starter were by Mike Caldwell in 1978 (22-9, 293 innings, 160 ERA+) and Teddy Higuera in 1986 (20-11, 248 innings, 156 ERA+) and 1988 (16-9, 227 innings, 162 ERA+). Ben is on pace to pass those seasons. Ben is on pace for about 230-240 innings and about 16-18 wins. Those numbers don't compare to Caldwell's season but as of right now, I estimate that Sheets is on pace for an ERA+ of somewhere between 180-200, which would put him somewhere in the top 90 seasons of all-time.
  2. but Ginter is barely above average for a 2nd baseman, he'd be a terrible hitter as a RF.
  3. Once I spilled a soda on Doug Henry from above the bullpen (on accident of course). This is basketball, but once my friend and I almost got beat up by Chris Gatling.
  4. why would we replace Santos with Saenz? I would rather hold onto Santos, at least until he declines in performance. What has he done to not deserve a spot?
  5. Gantner, Vina, Ginter, Weeks, Listasch, or Belliard being the best Brewer 2nd baseman. its gonna be Weeks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  6. As a result, i'm going to take a step back from participating in the off-topic forum (otherwise known as the communists vs. nazis forum) until things settle down. I'd advise many others here to relax as well. you're right. Sometimes we (I) get carried away. (but isn't it all in fun?) I think I'm going to take your advice and lay off of the political topics for a while.
  7. I'm not offended, I didn't mean to offend him. I feel bad that I did. I didn't mean to cause any discord among the faithful. Thanks to whoever moved the thread. (Also, I don't get the image that Brian put up. Does that make me stupid?)
  8. well, you guys can ban me if it will make bmuch feel better.
  9. I wasn't the one saying Milwaukee sucks, in fact I was saying the opposite. Still, I get your point.
  10. I would have moved it but I don't think I can. I think it has to be a moderator. I certainly wouldn't be averse to someone else moving the Philly Daily News thread to Off-Topic.
  11. and again, that was in one topic. If you didn't like it, why did you keep returning to the thread (which you apparently did)? I defy you to find another not off-topic thread in which I mention anything more political than my intense dislike for the Seligs.
  12. also, its not really that off-topic.
  13. way to rat me out. I'm not the one that turned that thread toward a more off-topic topic. Bucksbeat did it when he said that downtown was a horrible, scary place with syringes laying everywhere.
  14. If the only thing that the Brewers could beat for the last 11 years was their fan base, why be surprised or indignant when paying the Seligs for weeknight baseball is not the first thing the frequently flogged think of for entertainment. To the average Wisconsinite, this light at the end of the tunnel probably still looks like train they have been hit by every season for over a decade. Exactly. I know dozens of people that will never go to another game as long as Selig owns the team. I'm talking about former season ticket holders too, people who actually used to go.
  15. Hopefully they'll sign 'em soon.
  16. but when it's the playoffs, finishing off opponents will matter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif x2
  17. What is wrong with Jenks this year? Just when it looks like he's coming around....
  18. fixing mechanics shouldn't really be too hard. Just send him to work with Tom House.
  19. well, I'm not sure that will be the case innings wise. I'm sure the Brewers will build his stamina up slowly. I doubt they want him to jump 100 inning in 1 year. I realize the comp was not what it is in other states but he did dominate some showcase didn't he? Also, plenty of guys have made the majors despite being from small towns/schools.
  20. Very interesting post. I don't necessarily agree with your reasoning about why he's a bad pick (being from Maine, after all, Schilling is from Alaska), but the stuff about his delivery is illuminating. I have the same apprehension about HS pitchers that you do (because of injury concerns) but I don't see why Mark would be a bigger risk than any other HS pitcher. In fact, he may be less of one because he would have pitched fewer games in his career.
  21. I realize this is probably just to prevent injury but I really hope he's not already injured after pitching on 3 days rest for the first time. That's just me being paranoid, right? RIGHT?!?
  22. I wouldn't say it looks like crap, 2 teams are over .500 and one is only 1 game under. Also, there have been a lot of injuries and most of our top guys are young for their leagues. I admit I'm a little disappointed, but to tell you the truth, I don't care very much whether a minor league team wins or loses as long as the prospects are working on their games and improving. There is still a 2nd half title to contend for in Huntsville. We may have been overly optimistic about some of the players, but Prince looks like he's coming out of his slump and so does Rickie.
  23. Thorpe did play for Cincy but mostly for the NY Giants and a little for the Braves (Boston). He never pitched in a game, unfortunately. Neither did Sockalexis, who only played 3 years.
  24. seriously, if the vast majority of teams take mostly college players, then it seems that the brewers get the cream of the high school crop that was my thought exactly. It leaves more HS guys for us.
  25. here's a possible reason for that. -There's more high schools than colleges. but only two teams took more HS guys than college guys so I don't get what you are saying.
