  1. Who knows what the gun is keyed in at but Jungmann appears to be sitting at 94 with his fastball in the first inning.

Top pitchers dominate college baseball, he hasn't. Gerrit Cole put up a 3.31 ERA this year. He also has a fastball that reaches 100 MPH and a plus change-up. I doubt you could find one scout that would tell you Cole has anything less than above-average stuff. Which comes to the point: It's foolish to judge a pitcher strictly based upon ERA, and even more-so, a college pitcher's career era. By using his career ERA, you hope to skew the statistics in your favor, when in reality a pitcher that comes into college as a freshman is not going to be the same player that exits a few years later. Bradley put up a 3.49 ERA this year, which yes, is not "dominating" as far as ERA goes in the college game. But since when is ERA the be-all, end-all of statistics in judging a pitcher's ability? At the major league level, a pitcher can put up a high ERA due to a combination of bad-luck on balls-put-in-play, or simply because there's a poor defense behind them. Why would college be any different in this regard? It's not like Bradley has a problem missing bats. He had a K/9 of 9.73 this year, a WHIP of 1.22, and only allowed one home run all year. So he's already displayed two key aspects of a successful pitcher - missing bats and keeping the ball in the ball park. I find your argument that Bradley has a ceiling as a LOOGY in the majors to be dumbfounding. Perhaps that was an attempt at hyperbole on your part, but if so, it goes a bit too far, even, in that regard. I respect your opinions on the draft, but I really think you're grasping at straws here.
  5. Come on, there's no need to get disgusted over these picks. Let's at least wait until they play some pro ball, huh?
  6. The topic is wrong, if a mod is viewing this thread and please change it? Should have been 6 CT.
  7. Great game! But yeah, Axford's propensity for allowing base-runners will catch up to him soon. Luckily the Marlins have bailed him out the past two nights by swinging at balls.
  8. McGehee won more games above replacement last year alone than Stewart has for his entire career. Stewart may have some promise but McGehee is only two years older and has already produced. He's also cheaper, as has been mentioned. I'll stick with him, given the choice. To TwinBrewer's point: 3B really isn't a premium offensive position. McGehee is #10 on the Fangraphs major-league WAR leader board for 3B, and like you said, he hasn't exactly lit the world on fire. Although it should be noted that they have his fielding down as a positive so far this year, which definitely won't hold, as he's sub-par in that area. McGehee at the worst is an average 3B, and he's cheap. He's fine.
  9. He means that he could adapt his offensive game to any level, given time. His defense, not so much. But he's working on it.
  10. Lawrie is going to be a monster on the offensive end. But he's also made seven errors so far, a .939 fielding percentage. That being said, he is entirely new to the 3B position and so he could definitely improve. Even if he has to move to the outfield, his bat will play there.
  11. Wow, I didn't realize Cruz had that type of stuff. Here's to hoping that he finds consistency, it sounds like the Crew might have found a diamond in the rough...
  12. In two years Loe will sign with the Yankees and Cashman will talk about how thoroughly Roenicke abused him.
  13. Actually I think Corey might have gotten the corner of the plate on the inside of Doumit's legs as he slid through. It's tough to tell though.
  14. If McClendon comes in and gives up the lead, then fine. That will happen. But for Roenicke to go to Loe, a pitcher that he's pretty much over-worked and abused the entire season long, a pitcher that has shown in the past week an increasingly ineffective ability to get batters out, a pitcher that before the game even Roenicke himself had said was off-limits... That's entirely on the manager, and so is this loss.
  15. Completely healthy teams without Marcum and Greinke. And yes, I know that Greinke has only just recently come off the DL, but the point is that Macha had a terrible starting staff to deal with. But yes, I know, and I agree, Macha's personality was like death personified. I didn't like him at the time and I still don't. I was hoping before the season that Roenicke would perhaps be that rare hybrid of baseball managers - competent AND charismatic. But that was apparently too much too ask for. Instead it appears that we've ended up with something akin to the Anti-Macha. Just as awful but in an entirely new way!
  16. Like I said, give me Macha over Roenicke any day of the week. He at least knew how to manage a bullpen and make out a line-up card..
  17. I would have put McClendon in myself...Loe has looked awful lately.
  18. Please bullpen, don't cough this one up. Would be nice to put the Padres to bed...
  19. To make matters worse, Gomez is actually the one with a hot hand right now. Over 1.000 OPS for the past 7 days, .899 OPS for May. Roenicke is just dumb, plain and simple. I would take Macha over him x1000. It takes very little intelligence to manage a baseball team but Roenicke seems to lack even that meager amount. Gomez could have some sort of injury issue and that would explain Kotsay's presence, but my opinion on Roenicke won't change because of it.
  20. Melvin admits that Gomez isn't an ideal #2 hitter, but says that there aren't many options available. Says that he and Ron have discussed putting Lucroy into the two-slot but that it would be a lot to put on the plate of a young catcher. Says that Lucroy at the number two is still on the table and could still be implemented further down the line. Other than that, not too much revelatory, just Melvin being his usual glum self.
  21. Howell with zero strikeouts in 6IP but 13-1 GB/FB ratio. However, he did give up a home-run amongst his 5 hits. How many else were fly-balls I do not know.
  22. Doesn't help that the umpire keeps giving the Cards pitch after pitch.
