  1. That is two weeks before finals for me, so it is mildly questionable, but if I have a working vehicle (fingers crossed on the Saturn), I should be able to go.
  2. Durrington is a very good signing, IMO. He's better than Paz in that he's faster, and that he has more pop. He's basically as good at the OBP thing... probably a better contact hitter and probably slightly worse with the eye. Better arm in the outfield too, though they are both average defenders wherever. Digging way back, in 2000, Sickles said that Durrington could hit about .250 with some "oomph" in the majors, and obviously steal a few bases. Hasn't worked out great in the majors so far, but Trent could be a guy to watch. Great player to replace Paz with.
  3. From ESPN: The St. Louis Cardinals try to win three straight games for the first time in over a month as they continue a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. One night after belting his 42nd homer, Pujols reached the 200-hit plateau with a fifth-inning double as the Cardinals edged the Brewers, 6-5, on Tuesday. The 23-year-old is only the second player in franchise history to record 40 homers and 200 hits in the same season - Rogers Hornsby did it in 1922 when he hit 42 homers and had a club-record 250 hits. He has 113 career home runs, one shy of Ralph Kiner's major league record for most in the first three seasons of a career. Edgar Renteria added a two-run double and Scott Rolen had an RBI single as the Cardinals improved to 10-2 against Milwaukee this season. St. Louis has not won three in a row since a four-game skein from August 9-12. Wes Helms hit a two-run homer and rookie Scott Podsednik had a two-run single for the Brewers, who have lost their last five meetings with the Cardinals. Garrett Stephenson (7-13, 4.54 ERA) makes his first start since August 26 for the Cardinals. He has made three relief appearances since allowing six runs and five hits in three innings of a loss to the Chicago Cubs. In his three relief appearances, the righthander has allowed one run and seven hits in six innings. Stephenson is 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA in four career starts vs. the Brewers. Milwaukee's Ben Sheets (11-12, 4.22) tries to win consecutive decisions for the first time since winning three in a row from July 19-29. Sheets snapped a five-game losing streak and matched a career-high for victories Thursday against Houston, when he allowed three runs and eight hits in eight innings. The righthander is 3-4 with a 3.93 ERA in eight career starts vs. the Cardinals.
  4. It might be possible to "grab" the threads from EZBoard and make them into a printable version elsewhere, but I don't see that as being easy or space-effective. Interesting idea, tho.
  5. Hey, go out there at get that win, Wes.
  6. Varner makes the catch at the wall in right field and the Stars win, 6-3. Jason Shelley is the winner, Donnie Bridges the loser, and Matt Parker with the save. Pedro Liriano looks to guide the Stars to their 4th Southern League Championship tomorrow.
  7. Mudcats have runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th, still down 6-3 to our Stars. Brian Adams is done, Matt Parker coming in.
  8. Bottom of the 9th, 6-3 Stars. Looks like Brian Adams is going to try and finish it off. The mighty Kremblas with a go-ahead single with the bases loaded in a 5-run 6th inning. J.J. Hardy added an RBI double in the 7th.
  9. A High Desert OF of Toner-Raburn-Santana. Migod. Mr. Raburn seems to like playing CF, though, with what must be a career-high 3 extra base hits.
  10. K 'em up, Danny. Please? EDIT: There's one. DANNY!!!!! EDIT 2: Strikes. Striiiiiiiiiiikes. Throw strikes. You can get them out. EDIT 3: I denounce my denouncing of the Conti trade.
  11. Clancy, Would you rather have a better chance at a run and a better chance at a win or a CG? What's even better is that Ned pulled Doug anyway after Martinez singled and Sosa was due up. C'mon, Ned! Geez...
  12. Not pinch-hitting for Davis, with a runner on third and 1 out? Blah. C'mon, Ned, another run is more important than saving a bullpen that will have a number of additions in the next few days.
  13. Weird thing about Podzilla's SB is that the most he ever had in one year in the minors prior to this was 35. The minor leagues are noted for numerous players with bloated SB totals because managers try harder to utilize player's skills. I'd say it is an extremely rare occurance that a player would trump his SB high in minor league ball in the majors, especially for a player like Podzilla, who had a whole lot of minor league time to work with. Not that SB numbers matter a whole lot, but it is still odd. That's one up for Davey Nelson.
  14. Anyone else worried that Davis has given up a lot of fly ball outs the past 3 innings? I'd watch him closely, not that there is anything in our bullpen that would make me sure about getting 6-9 outs and still maintain the lead.
  15. Doug Glanville leading off? Oh my.
  16. I am not going to get too stressed out about the pitch counts of elderly 5th starters. To note, Davis is only about one year and 3 months older than Wes Obermueller, and less than a year older than Ginter, Helms, or Podsednik. For even more perspective, he's more than a year younger than Derek Lee. Governor Doug turns 28 late in September. Betcha didn't know that.
  17. I can get all my basebally friends into a chant of "Podzilla! Podzilla!" at any time I want, if that makes it any better.
  18. I think Al is mistaken in that Serafini came up through the Twins' system, which is where he might remember Dan from. I could be wrong about that, but I'm sure Serafini at least played for the Twins a few (3-4 years) back.
  19. Somewhere, Billy Beane is shaking his head. They gave up two friggin outs to get that run!
  20. I have a strange feeling the Brewers are going to win this one 7-6. And that Leonicio Estrella will have a fantastic night.
  21. just can't imagine this club facing Pioneer League competition In one of my articles, I mentioned this, and this is also why the Brewers are going to be forced to draft heavy in college again next season, to fill some gaps. The guys on offense I can see even close to being ready for Helena right now are Acosta, Lewis, Mannon, Plasencia, McCormack, and maybe Brian Opdyke. There should be some pitcher movement, especially with the success of some high-mid round HS guys like Hawk, Marion, and Wooley, but I'd think you'd want to graduate more than 10 out of 35 guys to the next level the following season. If Weeks can keep hitting like he has been (small sample size, I know...), I can live with the defensive shortcomings. Hopefully the error rate won't be quite as prolific as Agustin Septimo's in Helena. The thing with Rickie is, if his bat is so close to the majors as people say it is, his defense is going to have to catch up in a hurry, so if the Brewers don't think he can handle 2B right quick, he might be off to the outfield before you know it. Don't the Pads' AA team, Mobile, have some absolutely fantastic names?
  22. Hart is the better prospect than Clark (or, it is fairly safe to assume he is), so giving up defensive time at third, which Corey needs, to DJ, is not really the best idea. We all know Clark can play 3B in a pinch, but he needs to develop as an OF also if he wants to have a better chance to make it to the show. My thought has been the last few seasons to see if DJ can play at second base, but that's obviously not in the Brewers' plans at the moment. Clark might spend some time at 1B spelling Gemoll, but with Barnwell there, I don't see too much action forthcoming for DJ at third.
  23. Re: J.M. Gold HAH! HAH! HAH! I WIN! EAT IT YOU HATERS! Ahem... Re: Charlie Lozada Not really good defensively at all, anywhere, but evidently he can hit some. But why not Manny Ramirez? Edit: to adjust subject line
  24. C'mon, DJ Clark promotion. What does the poor guy have to do?
