  1. Kemp's on a bit of a tear right now and his BA is up to .322. Leads the league in RBI, and is only 1 HR behind Pujols. He has a pretty legit shot at a triple crown, and no one is really mentioning it.
  2. Are those Central times? I'm hoping that if the Brewers are at home that day that the game is at 3:30 or later. My son has a football game at noon that day (figures it's pretty much his only game that does not start at 9am). While I'm sure he will just miss his youth football game to attend the the playoff game, I'm hoping he will be able to both. Sunday evening games seem odd, but I guess TBS doesn't want to go up against the NFL in the afternoon. I'm hoping for day games for both. I've got tickets for the Nebraska game Saturday night, and the last flight back to Atlanta on Sunday is at 6:30. Right now I'm planning on a 6 AM flight back on Monday for a 10 AM test (gulp).
  3. I'm heading home for the UW-Nebraska game so I'm hoping for homefield and afternoon games to start things off. I should probably just buy tickets for the first two games, I imagine if I can't make it I can turn them around for about the same price. Also hoping for Atlanta to hang on to that wildcard spot, I've got my tickets for their first two home games bought already (for face value and without any sort of a ticket package....gotta love living in a crummy sports city that takes their team for granted). When I signed up for the ticket drawing a few weeks ago that entered me for each round, right?
  4. This. I do think there is solid reasoning behind "if we have to beat the phillies anyway, we'd have a better shot in a 5 game series". But I think the hope is still definitely to have homefield, preferably against a banged up braves team. If they can play the braves and then the DBacks (who pull off an upset), that would be the easiest path to the world series. Also, while I agree with what the initial post says implying that ultimately the team wins the world series or it doesn't, and as fans we will be disappointed no matter where we lose....but hosting as many playoff games as possible is really really important for a small market team like Milwaukee. The extra revenue it brings in could be the difference between extending a guy like Greinke, or at the very least being able to spend more money in the draft. I don't know the exact numbers (they're out there somewhere), but if the Brewers host 5 playoff games, that could be enough for Attanasio to increase the payroll quite a bit next year.
  5. I don't know if Roenicke ever used a .286 average to justify it....that's something Haudricourt wrote in himself (possibly to try and explain an odd decision) it's not a quote from Roenicke. I'm definitely not agreeing with the move, I just think those words are being put into Roenicke's mouth. Perhaps a better explanation (with a bigger sample size) would be Arroyo's .923 OPS against lefties (.697 v. righties) this season. Again, not agreeing with it...but if Haudricourt uses a stat like that it doesn't look as bad.
  6. two awful offensive games in a row (well, there's been many, but these were off of bad pitchers), take an off day, refocus, and if there was ever a time to get the offense going it's off of bronson arroyo (40 HR this year!!!) in that bandbox of a stadium
  7. good lord that was awkward, and i'm pretty sure gonzalez was safe. thank god no one got hurt, plays like that scare the crap out of me (damn you reed johnson)
  8. How does Morgan clearly running outside the baseline make an umpire awful for making a correct call? How many times do you see that called unless the runner is way into the grass? He was only marginally out of the baseline, that goes without being called more times than not. And with 2 outs and Braun coming up that's a huge call. We really not playing well in any facet of the game right now. Even if we win this game (which I'm doubting), we certainly have done our best to lose or make it as hard as possible. How many times does the ball actually hit the runner when they are inside the line like that? I bet it's called just about every time that happens. If it misses him and the 1B makes the play, obviously theres no call, and if it gets past the 1B maybe it doesn't get called. But if it hits the runner? The ump has to make that call. It doesn't forgive a crummy strike zone and weeks being safe, but it was a good and correct call.
  9. Forget that. Let's play Atlanta so I can go to a game or two. EDIT: Wait! How about a compromise! Atlanta in the NLDS and Arizona in the NLCS! WINNER!
  10. so, not having to play the best team in the NL in the playoffs? I would take that scenario in a heartbeat.
  11. being an atlanta resident, that would ruin my NLDS plans. But hey, it involves the brewers in the playoffs and not playing the phillies. so works for me i guess.
  12. not interested in what the cardinals are doing. avoid the sweep today, and go .500 the rest of the way. The cardinals would have to finish 14-2 to catch the brewers. If the brewers lose today, the cards still have to go 13-3 (keeping that .500 record the rest of the way). And the cardinals still have to go through the phillies pitching gauntlet like the crew just did. It's the brewers division to lose, not the cardinals to take...don't need to worry about them.
  13. I am not a fan of bunting, but I am fine with it there. Nice to get the guy to second base, but also to avoid the double play. Need to make sure both Braun and Fielder get a shot, and a double play eliminates that option. Give up the out, and give your MVP candidates a chance to win/tie it. edit: and very true, if braun gets out the bat is taken out of princes hands. didn't think that far ahead. Still not necessarily "pro-bunt", but I don't think its a terrible move.
  14. Nope, but he (or morgan) better be hitting for Yuni.
  15. BA got me really really excited there.....almost luc.
  16. attaboy casey! gotta think that'll get the team going
