  1. The error didn't lead to any runs. I suppose if you include holding runners on base as defense (which makes sense), then you can put some blame there. But I think that was more a case of the astros manufacturing a run with aggressive baserunning than poor defense from the brewers.
  2. well, when you do it this way you get lucroy his rest once every five days and you keep a guy who's pitching well (and making a bit of money) happy, which will hopefully lead to him continuing to pitch well. Maybe Wolf is being a douche or prima donna about it...I don't know and I don't care, so long as he continues to pitch well. also, not bad corey hart.
  3. It's pretty frustrating that your best catcher and one of the better hitters on the team has to sit the bench because he "can't" catch WolfThe best catcher on just about every team is going to sit on the bench 1 out of every 5 games. It doesn't look like the brewers will be any different.
  4. Right back at you. When has he ever shown he can be a #1. He has never thrown over 185 Innings and has never posted an ERA under 3.6. He has actually gotten worse every year since his rookie year in terms of ERA and WHIP. And his peripherals (K/9, BB/9, FIP, HR rate) have improved each of those years. Not in 2011 of course, but he's been better in each year of his career.
  5. ah yes, the concussion DL. forgot all about that. works out pretty well for the crew.
  6. i wouldn't wish getting hit in the face on anyone....but they HAVE to activate Hart and send Almonte down if he can't play, right? It's a tough break for Almonte, but he's going to go down soon enough anyway.
  7. Gotta think Hart will be activated tomorrow if McGehee can't go. He might not start (although if you're going to activate him, i don't see why you don't start him) but there's no way you can go into a game with Boggs, Almonte, and Nieves as your only bench players (assuming Kotsay and Counsell start. either way, 3 bench players, 1 of which is nieves is no good).
  8. Gamel? thought about that right as i hit "post". I think my mind just jumped to a worst case scenario, which is any way that almonte is still on the team after the injured guys get back.
  9. great way to cap the night. Don't want to jump to rash conclusions (although he looked like he was in a lot of pain), but what happens if casey is out for an extended period? Counsell/Almonte platoon?
  10. Narvy just didn't have it. Left a lot of pitches up and the reds took advantage. Even when he made a few nice pitches, the reds still found a way to find "a" "hole" or rope them down the line (the hanigan double comes to mind) always forget that those words i put in quotes up there get edited...
  11. I like Brandon Boggs and I think he can be effective as a backup outfielder. And I agree that he should have been on the roster instead of Almonte (or Reed) from the start, although that is very easy to say in hindsight. I guess I'm just playing devil's advocate here. He's 1 for 7 with a solo homerun right now, exactly where Erick Almonte was 3 games into his brewer career. A few 0fers and/or bad pinch hits away from being a pretty similar player (with better defense, i understand that). I think it's a little bold to come out and say so definitively that brandon boggs is clearly THAT much superior to a guy like Kotsay based on 1 homerun. I'm not saying Boggs isn't any good and he's going to be the same as Almonte....just saying give it a few games. I hope we're back here next weekend and everyone is calling me out for these posts because Boggs has been great. Lord knows the brewers' bench needs it. As a side note, I think that Kotsay can be an effective bench player, at least as a pinch hitter. If he's our 5th OFer (after Hart and Morgan are healthy), pinch hitting is pretty much his role. And while he lacks power, he's a guy who's been around, takes a lot of pitches and makes contact. Take out his intentional walks and he's still getting on base at a .330 clip. Not great, but I'm OK with that off the bench. I guess that sounds a little bit like a Craig Counsell clone, and Boggs is a switch hitter...but this little side note wasn't to compare the two, just to say that I'd be OK with Kotsay as the 5th OF/a pinch hit option. because he's getting paid and it's probably going to happen.
  12. that's a very fair point. I'm glad he's in milwaukee, I think it's the right move. I'm just saying that people should wait for more than a 1 at bat sample size (or 4) before they jump all over melvin or RRR.
  13. that was in his fourth at bat, so both of those posts above are incorrect. just saying. and i mentioned this in the IGT as well, but Almonte hit a HR in his 3rd or 4th at bat this year. I think Boggs is a better player, so i don't think he'll be following in Almonte's .107/.107/.214 footsteps....but it was just 1 at bat. give it some time before everyone goes crazy about what a joke it is he wasn't up all year/isn't getting playing time right now (I'm predicting the IGT tomorrow after Kotsay is put in the lineup).
  14. Carlos Gomez went 7 for 15 with a walk, a stolen base, and scored 5 times in this series. He saw on average 19 pitches per game. I know the Astros pitching isn't very good, and im not saying this makes it OK for him to keep hitting in the two hole (I don't like him there either)....but it was definitely a step in the right direction for a guy who takes on a lot of criticism (much of it deserved) around here. It was especially nice to see a good approach at the plate after he hit a homerun. I'm not holding out too much hope for him keeping this up...but i thought it was worth mentioning
  15. pretty sure that Erick Almonte hit a solo homerun in his 3rd or 4th at bat of the season as well.
  16. 3 yr/$34 million with a 4th year option. bought out one or two arbitration years, I can't remember how many he had left.
  17. the past 3 years Rodriguez has had a solid ERA (that matchues up with his FIP), a K/9 above 8 and averaged about 3.5 WAR per year. He's probably not an ace on most teams, but I don't know in what world those numbers are "really not that good"
  18. i don't think the phillies had anyone up in the bullpen, so it would have been Madsen regardless. I could be wrong, but I think madsen is the eighth inning guy so manuel wasn't looking to play matchups
