  1. im not sure who they equate to.....but i dont think any of those listed are too stellar. Saunders is mediocre, Rodriguez is a 26 year old reliever in AAA, and Corbin's stats look nice. It's very likely that the PTBNL is a top prospect though.
  2. Alright, I'm at the game right now, sitting in right center and I feel like a bit of a dbag using my phone for this right now....BUT this is killing me and I need help. My girlfriend reminded me that the last time we sat in right field was sabathias first start against the Rockies in 08. And almost everyone in the rf bleachers would chant something at Corey hart, trying to get him to do something and acknowledge us. I know it was something simple, but for the life of me I can't remember it....does anyone know what I'm talking about?
  3. that's twice now mcgehee has been called out incorrectly at third. the astros announcers have agreed both times.
  4. The majority of trades around the league right now are so teams can free up cap space to make big offers to a ridiculous class of free agents this summer (i.e. what the knicks bulls and clippers are doing right now). Because the bucks are hamstrung by huge contracts to Redd and Gadzuric, they can't put themselves in that position. Those contracts come off of the books after next season, so the bucks are positioning themselves to make big moves in the summer of 2011 to build around Jennings/Bogut. But the expiring contracts of Warrick, Elson, Alexander, etc are attractive to those teams who want flexibility this summer...so the bucks are using them to improve this year's team (Salmons) and make a run at the playoffs. None of the contracts they have taken on (or will take on if they keep trading) will be on the bucks after next season, so they will still have all of the flexibility they want after next season.
  5. I would agree that he is a good pitcher (and a great one last year)....but since when is javier vazquez an ace?
  6. My biggest gripe with Cameron is he spent a good chunk of last year hitting in the 5 hole with braun and prince getting on base in front of him....and he just didn't drive in runs effectively. 16 of his 24 homeruns came with the bases empty (granted he had more plate appearances with the bases empty...but it is not a very significant number). His OBP is higher with men on, but his SLG is down over 100 points....which means he's either walking or singling, which is fine i guess (cant complain about a .360 OBP), but when you have holes like Hardy, Hart, and Kendall hitting behind you, as a #5 hitter you NEED to come up with some big extra base hits in that situation. There were 46 players that had 300+ plate appearances with runners on base. Mike Cameron was ranked 46th in RBIs among those players. You can talk about his high OPS, great defense, and WAR...and thats great. But watching him on a game to game basis, people remember him coming up to bat with men on and a chance to start/extend a rally and the two scenarios that happened most often were: 1) a single or a walk that brought up someone else who didn't come through; 2) a strikeout. That said, I want Cameron back. He is not necessarily a bad hitter with men on base, but he was last year...if his numbers return towards his norm (and they should) it will make a significant difference. I really would like to see him hit more often in the two hole and getting on base for braun and prince.
  7. theyll make up for it when they draft joe krabbenhoft in the second round....
  8. Jennings might be a bit of a project, but I think Holiday was moreso. He might be a better player defensively, but he also didnt really even play PG for UCLA last year, Collison did. I saw almost nothing from Holiday when I saw UCLA play last year. Granted I didnt see anything from Brandon Jennings while he played in Europe, but from all accounts he matured a lot and improved his game there, despite limited playing time. I wanted Flynn, but Jennings was the next guy on the list for me. Theyre both projects in their own way, but I know that Jennings has the skillset to play point guard. I dont know that about Holiday. I would have taken Lawson ahead of Holiday.
  9. Spain was clearly the better team. The US just played a better, smarter soccer game. This game and another strong showing in the final should help grant more American players the opportunity to play for better clubs in Europe. Hopefully Altidore can earn some playing time in Spain, whether its back at Villareal or with Xerez (who got promoted). Id love to see Onyewu find his way into the Prem at Fulham or Birmingham. It'd also be great to see DeMerit get another shot there as well. Charlie Davies has looked really good, and has performed well in Sweden the past few years (it might suit him just to stay there though). I remember reading that Jose Torres might end up in Spain. And hopefully Donovan can stick somewhere in Europe, i think he would flourish in La Liga. And don't forget, at the World Cup next year the US is going to have German defect Jermaine Jones...who was voted the 4th best midfielder in the Bundesliga last year. Things are looking up, hopefully they play well again on Sunday.
  10. Flynn at #10 (Jennings if Flynn is gone), DeMarre Carroll at #41 (Jeff Pendergraph if Carroll is gone)
  11. I think DeRozan has bust written all over him. His athleticism is fantastic, but the kid can't shoot. He won't be able to score consistently solely on his athleticism. He turns the ball over a decent amount, and his rebounding, block, and steal numbers are all pretty pedestrian. He's young, so i could be wrong, but I don't want the Bucks to take him. I think Flynn or Lawson should be the pick, and honestly I'd lean toward Lawson. Holiday would be alright, but I really don't think he'll stick at PG. If they decided to go for a PF I like Blair a lot, but 10 is too high for him. I say Flynn or Lawson to fill the PG need, and they might be able to pick up a decent PF with the second pick. I wish DeMarre Carroll was a little bit taller.
  12. Very true. So essentially tread water and see what the team is made of next year...and then afterward fix what needs to be fixed in the FA market with the money they've freed up. Its not a perfect plan, and it could be a very long season next year, but i think its their best option. And someone mentioned Redd and Gadz coming off the books next summer as well. Redd has a player option of $18 million which he could very well exercise and stay with the bucks because its more money than he can get on the open market. And Gadzuric has two years left, he isnt a free agent til 2011. But trading Jefferson combined with Ridnour coming off the books frees up over $21 million....close to 40 if Redd opts for free agency.
  13. Enough salary flexibility to resign Sessions and/or Villanueva. When healthy, it's a borderline playoff team. Granted we all want a team that can win a championship, but a 7 or 8 seed with a young core would be a big step. So you see what you've got with this young team, and then with RJ's $15 million 2010 salary gone, you see what you can do in the free agent market in summer 2010 (which will be immensely talented). He's a very good player and I wish we could have gotten more back, but theres definitely a plan. I'm content with it.
  14. I just dont see parra as a #1 or an ace someday, i think he's potentially a very good, but not great pitcher. That's just my opinion, and I'd love to be wrong. My main point was that too many people are making Parra sound untouchable, when replacing him with Peavy would substantially improve the pitching staff next year, and possibly for a few years. I agree Parra and Jeffress would probably be too much (I said 50/50 before, but ive changed), but my point was Jake Peavy is a cy young caliber pitcher, and if you have a chance to acquire a guy like that you have to explore it, even if it means giving up one of your top young pitchers. You know what you have with Jake Peavy, you might know what you have with Parra and Jeffress (Parra moreso). That said, I dont think the brewers are going to be in the discussion to pick him up, so its a pretty moot point.
  15. Yes, assuming the worst in free agency, the brewers lack an adequate number of starters. But i really dont understand why so many people are against the idea of trading parra to get peavy. Yea manny's shown flashes of being great, but his ceiling is a #2 pitcher, and he's probably more likely a really solid third starter. Why youre not willing to trade him in order to set up a few years (this isnt a rental like sabathia was) of a team with two aces. Seriously, whats better: Gallardo/Parra at the top of the rotation or Peavy/Gallardo? Its not even close, the man is a cy young contender every year, at a reasonable price for a proven ace. Giving up both Parra and Jeffress would be tough and I'd probably be 50/50 on it(depends on the other prospects too)...but too many people are making it sound like Parra should be untouchable.
  16. theres a random letter next to the Milwaukee Brewers in the standings. and its not an E!
  17. this is so awesome. i would also like to apologize to craig counsell. ive complained all year about how much hes been used, but man, you have had some HUGE at bats the last 10 days or so. this is so awesome.
  18. Start it off with Yo/McClung, then go CC, Bush, Soup, CC. And if the brewers win game 1, you absolutely still throw CC in game 2. Not only do you need to have him rested for a potential game 5, but you do everything you can to pick up a second game in philly if youve got that chance.
  19. Bringing in CC was an incredibly smart move, but ultimately, if it didnt get them into the playoffs, then it goes down as a failure for a crew. Its not his fault they wont make it, but the fact remains it didnt accomplish what was intended. As far as the season goes, Im pretty sure i gave up on it the moment soto hit that homerun. But im still going to be watching them everyday and just hoping that something turns around...like braun or prince hitting a double in the ninth today would have...but it just isnt coming. ill still be back tomorrow hoping.
  20. catching a plane in two and a half hours to see this game....please please dont be delayed american airlines.
