  1. Soriano/Fukudome/Dunn. Even Jake Peavy would have a hard time keeping him ERA below 4.5 with that outfield. Or maybe it will be Soriano/Dunn/Fukudome, as I believe there was talk about the Cubs promising Fukudome more time in right than in center. Either way, here's hoping for a few Dunn-Soriano collisions in that outfield, if it were to happen.
  2. Look at what the Cubs entered last season with and look what we're going to enter this season with. Big Z v. YoGa-Aces with bats. Hill v. Parra-Two young lefties, one power, one...who has a curveball. We all know how this tale of woe ended for the North-siders. Moving on... Lilly v. Bush-Inconsistent pitchers, inconsistent results. Can be counted on for 180-200IP, with unpredictable results. Marquis v. the Soup Nazi-Unsuccessful attempts at signing a solid FA pitcher. Give me Soup, however, or give me the torture of the Marquis de Sade. Dumpster v. McClung/Villy (long-shot)-Former relievers who have had success in the rotation, though most people tend to be pessimistic about the results. I'm just saying...
  3. Just started in Green Bay not ten minutes ago. I'm tempted to just call in to work. Three day weekend and some time to reflect on a White Christmas. Cheer-io.
  4. And doesn't Cameron's presence, both on the field where he plays exemplary defense in center, and in the clubhouse where he is the consummate professional, factor into the development of the young guns?
  5. And imagine if they also sign Sheets. We get their second....and fourth rounders for CC and Sheets. Good times!
  6. I thought Dillard was strictly reliever, and that they had all but gotten a shiny embossed placard for Villy in the bullpen. McClung could probably be moved to the rotation, but he loses some zip on his fastball when he starts. As for Gary Glover, I would think it would be more realistic to bring back the knuckleballer from the Mariners, which is ludicrous in itself.
  7. Gamel is David Wright. Green is David Murphy. Who is playing 3B for the Mets in 2009? As for the catcher discussion, I think Salome has done enough to warrant at least a token call-up to the big league club and a few innings of catching the big league guys before being completely written off. Lucroy is the guy who will probably feel the squeeze, as I continue to hope we trade him at his most valuable. And Lawrie, if he can stick at catcher, will be an annual Gold Glove candidate, simply because of his stick (aka, Geo "Metro" Soto).
  8. Who doesn't love a girl wearing a jersey that says "Bush"???
  9. You know who's in? This Guy!
  10. But what are we going to do if we're down 3-0 in the ALCS, I mean NLCS, and we're facing the best closer in baseball? Who steals second for us off the bench? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I also remember how the duo or Dan Haren and Brandon Webb were electric over the first half of last year. Yo and Peavy...even better.
  12. Well ultimately, there will have to be concessions made (options picked up, years added). It would behoove us to figure out the necessary concessions before tabulating what the offer should then be. If we have to give him 5yr/100M on top of his deal, we are probably giving up something different as opposed to if he simply wants us to decline his option years and allow himself to hit FA before 30.
  13. With the departure of Khalil Greene, it's obvious that they are looking for a long-term shortstop. The talks with the Braves always began with Yunel Escobar, and to be honest, there really are not a lot of teams with ML-ready shortstop prospects, especially to spare. If Peavy makes it known he would be amenable to a trade to Milwaukee, the Brewers need to get the deal done.
  14. Irribarren?
  15. Or perhaps it was meant to say "He walked in 6....through 1/3 IP." Sounds about right.
  16. Wasn't the original trade between the Cards and Brews so appealing because of the Soup Nazi's relationship with Rolen? I believe it was made known that the reason he would waive his no-trade clause to come here is to be reunited with his old chum, Jeff. But if he would agree and the Jays would agree, I agree, it's well worth it.
  17. I just imagine Macha forcing Gathright to take BP with the pitchers...only to have Yo and McClung put him to utter shame. Then again, perhaps the Soup Nazi could teach him the art of the bunt.
  18. I would be highly amenable to taking a chance on Takashi, but I don't know if he has any interest in pitching for Milwaukee. I thought there was talk that he enjoyed LA so much because of its ethnic diversity and its relative distance to his homeland.
  19. I wasn't trying to be serious when I offered that. Honestly, I'd rather have Gamel than Rolen over the next three years, even with their defense. I have the utmost respect for Gamel, and I can only hope he'll follow the same path as Braun did to the majors. As an aside, I WOULD trade such a package...even adding Hart, for a package of King Felix/Morrow/Beltre. I can't imagine Jack Z. would do such a trade, but it would diversify his holdings, add offense, and allow him to overvalue his pitchers in hopes of more trades as they pitch at Safeco. Imagine what Parra would post next year. Gamel/Hardy/Jeffress/Parra/Hart for Beltre/King Felix/Morrow/Balentien Imagine our rotation next year. Felix Yo Morrow Bush Suppan....
  20. What's really sad is that Brian Giles is killing the Padres. If they could trade him, they could keep Peavy, at least until the trade deadline, when Peavy could dictate the situation he would be thrown into. As for the Brewers necessary offer for Peavy, I would think Cain/McClung/Jr. Gwynny/RP prospect (Aguilar or Pena) would be enough to get it done if it could get done. If Doug could talk Peavy and his rep. into this, I think we have the Executive of the Year.
  21. Pick up the option year and give him a FULL no-trade clause.
  22. Well we still have the best hitting ace in the NL.
  23. What about a Hardy/Gamel/Parra/Jeffress to the BJays for Rolen/Ryan/Halladay? That would definitely hinge on whether CC accepts our deal. Any possibility of taking on salary hinges on the Sabathia negotiations. Also, I figured it was all but a given, but isn't Stetter our LOOGy du joir?
