  1. Why don't the Twinkies ever get mentioned as a dark-horse? Liriano+ for Prince? They would finally have a big bat and they have pitching to spare.
  2. It all depends on the velocity. At 85-88, I wouldn't give him $1mil, at 92-94 with his usual bit of movement, he's worth $7-10mil in this market.
  3. Couldn't we work out a deal with the devil (Boras) where we offer and he declines? To be honest, I would be behind bringing Gagne back next year, given his acceptance of his role now. If we could get him at $5-6mil on a one year deal, given the FA market on releivers, I would be happy. Gagne at $6mil for one or a 40 year-old LOOGy for two years at $7-8mil? If his second half is for real, it could be a bargain.
  4. I don't know how the Brewers wouldn't do this trade. Prince is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. The youngest ever to 50HR's. What is his ceiling on power? But a potential ace that is ML-ready, a leadoff lefty who plays stellar d in center (and is as lethal on the basepaths as anyone outside of Reyes)...and a potential closer, to boot, that could be installed as early as next midseason. I am one of the biggest Prince fans, but if that is being discussed, there has to be more going to Sawx's way. As for Mike Lowell, I think it is but a formality that he will be traded, my guess is to the Twinkies, who have a big hole and are always willing to gamble. Otherwise there could always be a four man rotation between 1B/3B/DH, and it isn't as if Lowell and Big Papi don't have their health risks. Later, after the Big One hangs 'em up, the heir to his position takes over and Youkilis easily slides back to 1B.
  5. Where does that leave Posada then? I believe the justification for his contract extention last year (the length, I mean) was that he would play 1B part-time and catch part-time. Does that mean a Posada/Jeter platoon? If so, how do they expect to contend?
  6. I like that the young Bruin is continuing to hustle his bum off for Skiles, and that he's being rewarded for the elbow grease. I actually think we're going to be good this year...like 4-5 seed good. I think Mo is going to cause a riot in CLE with his ball-hogging, and I really wonder how much longer the Pistons can keep up their Braves-like dominance. The Bulls have no size, but Derrick Rose will probably just make lemonade and they could be dangerous in the beginning and the end of the season, though they'll crawl through the meaty part, especially the Circus Road Trip. And as for Indy...while I have Granger on my fantasy basketball team, it's only because there is no one in the backcourt to take away his shots and honestly, I think they're going to be playing from behind a lot. As for my Bucks...I'll give #13 another week to begin to look like a Marino of the halfcourt. I'm excited about Jefferson, but more out of necessity. And Bogut, while looking like Ahman Green in the rain with the ball (9TO...and he only attempted 4 shots in the first game), he is also showing a presence in the paint, at least from the backside (though he still does seem to lack a backside), though he hasn't really had any scary offenders in his territory outside of Noah's offensive hairdo.
  7. With Salome at second, can you imagine a David Eckstein-type attempting to break up the double play? Much like George Michael's girlfriend, Bland, we would call him "The Wall."
  8. But with Jon Broxton now firmly entrenched as their closer, couldn't he force their hand and make them trade him? I know he can always threaten to just go back to Japan. He would also be fairly cheap for the Brewers as next year's closer.
  9. We should start up a keeper league this offseason at Brewerfan.net to help us get through those cold Wisconsin winter nights.
  10. I guess we've just been too spoiled by the defensive wizardry of Scotty Po, Brady Clark, and Alex Sanchez to truly appreciate the intrinsic beauty of Mike Cameron's defense between a converted first baseman and the worst defensive third baseman in a hundred years.
  11. A year and a half of Mark Teixeira for J-Salt and Peavy? Sick.
  12. What does it say if this former number one overall pick with a questionable makeup continually is moved in consecutive offseasons? Say what you will about Rickie Weeks, but he's not tossing bats at umps. Instead he's making lousy commercials in Milwaukee for cable companies. As for the compatibility between the two franchises, unless we're getting Liriano, no dice on Hardy.
  13. Tigerbrew brings up a good point. What is CV's value right now? To be honest, he was our most dependable reliever, outside of Shouse, though I still felt better with the young CV. His changeup harkens back to a time of Wise and I would imagine he definitely has his followers elsewhere in the league. To be frank, he wasn't given a full shot in the rotation, as opposed to Bush. But I could see the two of them bringing up the rear to our rotation next year and have no qualms.
  14. No NY team in the postseason. Only one $20mil player in the postseason. I understand that there is an imbalance, but you have to admit, it is nice that we're not seeing the Cubs vs. the Yanks in the Series.
  15. Jay Bruce v. Justin Upton. Which would you prefer?
  16. I'd probably go with...Gamel/Escobar if it got us an ace pitcher. Best to keep things fluid, much like Escobar and the Hurricance were promoted simultaneously at one point in their ascensions.
  17. Giles Hardy Braun Fielder Branyan Cameron Weeks Kendall YO! That's a lineup! And then of course your rotation is headed by the Yo-Peavy duo.
  18. Better Bucco QB, Steve Young or Vinny Testaverde?
  19. The thing about Baldelli is that I always envisioned him to be Josh Hamilton, with a better glove and less power. His mitochondrial deficiency aside, he has immense talent. Now I am not advocating that we set all our hopes upon his shoulders, but if Mike Cameron were to leave or Corey Hart were to be traded, we could do worse than penciling Rocco in for 50-100 games in center/right on a contract similar to Kendall's from this year. Would he take it? I didn't expect Kendall to take the type of deal he got this year from us. If it fails, most likely it is due to Rocco being off the field due to injury, which only impairs us if we don't have a contingency plan (ie, Jr Gwynny, Kapler, Hall, FA...). But when that bat is healthy, it produces well for a CF with very good range in right.
  20. Just as an aside, Baldelli is a whiz with the glove in center. So he does carry a bit of value even without the bat...which is also very good. Much like Jay Cutler had health problems that sapped his vitality, so too has Baldelli. I would be more than willing to scratch that lottery ticket.
  21. Well with a bunt, you force the fielder to hurry his throw many times, incurring an error. I would opine that their is a higher probability for an error on a bunt than an infield grounder.
  22. Well I think keepers 1 and 1A are Braun and Yo. Beyond him, I think Prince is the engine that makes the Brewers go, so, to me, he would be a keeper. Hart and Hardy (Hardy, moreso) are the two players who are often mentioned as being available, because they could be replaced in some fashion. Hardy has a glove savant behind him and Hart...well he fouled up the two biggest AB's of our entire postseason (and back-to-back nevertheless). Rightly or wrongly, he's on the block. There is undoubtedly going to be some change this offseason. It is just a matter of who gets moved. But if you wanted a crazy proclamation, it would be that Rickie Weeks is going to be our starting 2B next year. And THAT is going to be the year he finally puts it together....or the next year....or his FA year. One of these years....
  23. Didn't he block the trade because he wasn;t going to be a full-time player? I believe they just wanted insurance and were going to use him as a 4th OF. For the Brew Crew, he would get the most trips to the buffet line (most ABs).
  24. Well R-Mart came up as a 3B so he could play part-time at 3B and part-time at C, sort of like the Dodgy Fellows did this year with him. It would allow for double-switches and even allow for Rivera to pinch-hit for Kendall every now and then. It would also allow Kendall to be better rested, and he could even serve as a good mentor to the young Canadian pup. Honestly, if R-Mart is available, I don't see how you couldn't see the Brewers at least making a token offer.
  25. What about expanding the deal to include Brian Giles? If we packaged Hardy/Hart/Braddock for Peavy/Giles (whose option they were on the fence about picking up, and now it seems even more likely will be moved). It wouldn't leave much money for improving third base or our bullpen, but he would be an ideal leadoff hitter or #2 with his OBP.
