  1. HiAndTight, No Heckathorn? I would imagine a slight oversight, though I am curious where you would slot him. We obviously both like Hall. I see a Phil Hughes-clone. Gennett was a big-time signing. I really didn't think we'd get him. And D'Vontrey could become the top player out of this draft. There's a high attrition rate for pitchers, but with our low-A pitchers and this crop, I could see the Brewers developing a core of pitchers much like our core group of hitters of a few years ago (Hardy-Hart-Prince-Weeks-Crabbe).
  2. How would everyone here rank our draft? I would have to say Arnett and Davis, no matter how you slice it, are #1 AND #2. Heckathorn is arguably number three (though I would take Hall). Beyond that, how would you rank our top ten? Mine: 1. Kentrail Davis (OF-MIL) Just needs a winning organization 2. Eric Arnett (RHP-MIL) Just needs a good pitching coach 3. Brooks Hall (RHP-MIL) Just needs to concentrate on how to be a thrower 4. Kyle Heckathorn (RHP-MIL) Just needs to concentrate on how to be a pitcher 5. Josh Prince (SS-MIL) Just needs to put on 20lb of muscle...anywhere 6. Max Walla (LF-MIL) Just needs to hit HRs 7. D'Vontrey Richardson (OF-MIL) Just needs to find the baseball diamond 8. Del Howell (LHP-MIL) Just needs a pitching coach 9. Scooter Gennett (2B -MIL) Just needs to proce he belongs in professional sports 10. Cameron Garfield (C-MIL) Just needs to acclimate himself to the pro game
  3. I'd take Pat Garrity over the Tractor. Nevertheless, I'm beginning to warm up to the idea that Redd should be coming off the bench. Ridnour/Bell Redd Prince Thomas/Hak Danny Gadz That's pretty much last year's starting team (we traded Jefferson for Thomas for all intents and purposes).
  4. This is also the gent who led the AL in ERA in his last contract year. I can think of worse uses of our fan dollars.
  5. Jennings was whipping it to Bogut in the paint. Jennings would have at least two double-doubles with Bogut still in.
  6. Except so many of our recent losses could have easily been bandaged by the presence of Bogut. Our rebounding and paint defense have fallen off a cliff.
  7. Would Coffey interest them at all? They have Jose Ceda...Leo Nunez...umm... They could probably use a true-proven late inning player. He'd only be under control for one year but he would be fairly cheap and could easily be jettisoned at the deadline if he were installed as their closer (much as chicks dig the longball, GM's dig the save).
  8. I understand projections, but look at what Bill James' projection for Josh Hamilton. I can't say definitively that a player who last year led the Southern league in BA would be the worst offensive 1B in the NL (but I would say that he would make Prince look like Sexson at 1B). Nevertheless, I get very excited about the prospect of extending some combination three cornerstone Brewers this offseason (JJ-Prince-Yo) if this trade goes down.
  9. To which I retorte, yes, which is why I think this game will ultimately hinge on the Rashard v. Ersan matchup. But for a lockdown defender on either forward, it has to be Luc Richard. He brings a defensive soccer mentality to his basketball game. "Marking the tall guy in the box (paint)... Luc Richard! Shutting down the sprinting winger on the counterattack, your local prince."
  10. Our best rebounding center and our best rebounding (and best defensive) forward are out. We have two good point guards. We have a court-stretching forward and a high-flying forward. We have two hybrid guard-forwards who embrace the idea of volume-shooting. And our centers are a savvy veteran and an "A for effort" overpaid Bruin. And a Charlie Bell with a pear-shaped body. If not for the last part, we could probably go run-and-gun.
  11. Logan, no need to deal in absolutes. Lucroy PROBABLY wouldn't but unless you're Nostradomus, you are bereft of certainty. Nevertheless, neither Lucroy or Salome will probably see an inning of work at 1B. And even if either did, it wouldn't be for us or the Fish with Prince and Logan Morrison, respectively. Also, as an aside, can you imagine the offensive production from a rotation of: YoGa JJ Parra Bush Soup Those are some decent bats....for pitchers.
  12. Is it truly guaranteed that the package would have to include a top pitching prospect? The Blue Jays have an abundance of young, controllable pitchers. What they lack is young, impact bats. Travis Snider is obviously the exception. But beyond him, their system is pretty devoid. Also, Ricciardi was supposedly fired because he didn't get a Halladay trade done this past deadline. And according to those at the meetings, their new GM is much more amenable to a deal. I would think Gamel would be the ideal starting point. Beyond him, Gindl/Cain would be a good piece. And finally, we have a good amount of lower minors, high-ceiling pitching. Is it going to happen? Very doubtful. Could it happen? Definitely. Will Halladay be traded within a year? Undoubtedly.
  13. Maybe I'm in the minority here but I would prefer if the Brewers would turn their eyes toward Asia. Many teams have begun to scout the most populous continent and I've never heard someone say, "Well you don't WALK yourself off the island" about a Japanese or Thai baseball player.
  14. Lucroy/Gamel would be the ideal starting point. Both are considered to be the better of their counterparts within the organization at their respective positions (you have to love prepositions). Honestly, I'm more attached to Gamel than Lucroy. I think Lucroy is being ensconced in hype right now, like velvet.
  15. I don't think I would be behind the Gamel/Lawrie/Salome deal. As has been mentioned earlier, those are undoubtedly our three best BATS in our system. Also, the Marlins would probably prefer some type of pitching in return for their ace pitcher. And what is with everyone's insistence on jettisoning Salome? His value is low right now, while Lucroy's is sky-rocketing. Thus, I would opine that: Gamel Lucroy Odorizzi/Scarpetta It has all the elements of what the Fish would probably be looking for. Gamel and Lucroy fill needs and Odorizzi or Scarpetta would cover up the lack of quality arms in their low minors.
  16. Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny? Imagine Fran Drescher in that role. Or Barbara Streissand. Meryl Streep would have butchered it. Who am I kidding? Tomei deserved an Oscar for the Wrestler, not Pesci's sloppy seconds.
  17. My sentiments exactly. Redd brings the ability to not only get to the line, but to make teams PAY when he gets there. Over his career, he has been one of the most proficient free throw shooters. And let's also be honest. When Redd comes back, he is still our best outside shooter. Delfino has had his struggles. Ersan is more comfortable at 17' (which I am as well). And while Jennings has been Peja Shuttlesworth-esque, I still would take a slew of shooters from outside over him (Danilo Gallinari springs to mind, for young Italian-trained shooters). I would think Jennings would relish the chance to work with a fully-charged offense and drop dimes all day. He's shown opponents that they absolutely must respect his ability to pick-and-pop from distance. Now he gets to cash in that respect for the drive-and-dish. He continues to try (tonight, like many other nights, his rapport with Warrick has been atrocious. Always be ready!) and I think a healthy Redd to divert defensive attention away can only help our cause. Also, with Bogut's passing ability from the high post, Redd should be able to find a new niche if needed (he came into the league as a slasher-type).
  18. Latos is the most untouchable player in their entire organization. Moreso than Adrian Gonzalez or...umm...his older brother who they just released. They deliberately delayed his service time so he would be eligible this year for rookie of the year. I am probably higher on Latos than most, but there isn't really a team that could or would put together a package that would entice the Padres to trade him. He's under their control for the next six years. Their system is especially barren of impact arms outside of him...and maybe Simon Castro. Their system is barren and it would be crazy for them to trade the only player who gives hope to their fanbase (as I think everyone in San Diego sees the writing on the wall with Gonzalez). What would Chris Young cost us alone, however?
  19. Doumit could have also split time between RF and catcher, allowing for some "late-inning pinch hit" opportunities. His bat does play.
  20. Has the Cubs system come so far as to be considered middle-of-the-pack now? Vitters is the epitome of the type of prospect who is overhyped in the Cubs' organization. I actually prefer Hak-Ju Lee to Starlin Castro (better defense). And their pitching is about as suspect as suspect gets. Chris Carpenter and Jay Jackson are their top pitching prospects (Cashner is bullpen fodder). I just have a hard time elevating them from being IMHO a bottom five farm system. Their safest prospect is probably Brett Jackson, and he was arguably a reach in this past year's draft.
  21. My sentiments exactly. And wish Brent good luck in this coming season. I'm still an avid believer in the Brewer.
  22. I don't care if he's the first, second, or third option, as long as he doesn't think he's all three. As has been mentioned, the Bucks played atrociously all around. Jennings began to get theories of grandeur. Bogut didn't have his heart in the game. Still, we went to OT with the Mavs. We're fine. Let's just hope we're not on cruise control tonight. It seems like a trap game @ home v. the Jersey Nets.
  23. Well Josh Howard is out tonight as well. So wouldn't you have to go into the paint? Bogut should be able to put up 30+ with 15 boards, while Jennings makes a run at the assists record held by his coach.
  24. I wonder if: McGehee Coffey Jake Odorizzi/Zach Braddock/Wily Peralta/Cody Scarpetta Alex Periard McGehee would probably be of more interest since they are so lefty-heavy and they prefer defensive reputation over bat-ceiling (new coined term), even if Gamel's defense has improved exponentially over the last 2 y ears. Coffey would seem like another player of interest to them, considering the amount of confidence one elicits at the thought of Lidge imploding this past year, and while it would weaken our bullpen, we would be recouping a pitcher who regularly gets a QS, easing the burden. Between Braddock, Scarpetta, Peralta, and Odorizzi, they could cherry pick their favorite pitching prospect. And Periard could then also be used in the Roy Halladay trade. So they plug holes in their bullpen and at 3B, while getting their pick of our pitching prospects, and get a nugget to throw into the Halladay trade (Jorge De la Rosa-style), while shedding about $14M over the next two years.
  25. Isn't Gooden just getting over an injury? And isn't Erick Dampier their starting C? I could be wrong. I'm not as "up" on my Mavericks knowledge as I have been in the past. The only player who I like on Dallas is Josh Howard (the Jeremy Jeffress of the NBA. Wake Forest's finest).
