  1. Agree with Logan and Luther Campbell. Escobar will undoubtedly have a higher average than Gomez, but Gomez should have a higher OBA and SLG. SB's...that's the real question. Nevertheless, I have high hopes for both young gents.
  2. My Top 5 1. Brett Lawrie - The best middle infield hitting prospect in baseball. 2. Jeremy Jeffress - As an avid proponent of responsible intoxicant use, I'm happy he has come to the realization that right or wrong, it is detrimental to his career to continue to be irresponsible. 3. Brooks Hall - Good to know I'm not the only one completely enamored with our new RHP and his phenomenal arm. 4. Angel Salome - Stout Power. It worked for Prince Fielder... I just want to see him get his BA back to .300+. And I want to quit hearing about his defensive inefficiencies. 5. Chuck Lofgren - Would really like to see him re-establish some success and confidence with a new organization. Outside of Russell the Muscle, we've gotten very little from the Tribe for loaning them our beloved announcer for their baseball movie. At least "Mr. 3000" gave us a glimpse of what will happen to our clubhouse if and when Prince leaves (allowing for Ryan Braun to take on a "Rex Pennebaker-personal). Honestly, this kid could be really good and unless Braddock gets stretched out, we have nothing in the way of slingin' southies with starter potential. Bonus Round - 6. Ryan "Scooter McGrooter" Gennett - Along with Brooks Hall, this young gent's signing really excited me this past year. His bat will carry him, much like another of our young MI prospects (though there is little chance he gets moved off one of the two MI positions, unlike LeBat Blue)
  3. As M. Mather once opined, "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime." Give me the "Angel Salome Child-rearing Manuel" over the "Alcides Escobar" model, please.
  4. I am definitely optimistic about Lofgren as well. I could see him becoming the McGehee of '10. The guy who refuses to be sent down by playing his heart out in Spring Training, only to languish on the bench until being given a gift of a chance and not taking it for granted. Big things from the young Cali southpaw.
  5. Jason Schmidt says that even the Braves make a mistake. As for where will the pitching come from, let me ask you to turn your attention to a year ago. The question du jour was, "Where will our future 3B come from?" Gamel's defense was suspect and McGehee was some guy who would probably be relegated to a bench role....in AAA. Now...fewer questions about Gamel's defense while boasting a plethora of options. All I mean is that Chuck Lofgren is probably going to be the greatest lefty to wear Brewer blue since CC. You never know.
  6. He was talking about trading away expirings for Salmons/T-Squared. Giving a team cap relief for a 4 (our biggest weakness) who last showed heart when Captain Heart (our coach) was yelling at him. I'd be all for his acquisition, though I would prefer Hinrich to Salmons (because we would undoubtedly be giving up Ridnour and I don't trust Bell as our full-time back-up PG).
  7. I have to agree with those who say this is no big deal. I remember hearing about Braun going to some 90210 star's 21st B-day bash. That is probably worse for his career (shades of the Alcides Escobar espisode spring to mind) than participating in a HR derby where he went "all-out" enough to hit....ONE. Unfortunately, this only reaffirms my belief that Braun derives ALL his power from Prince Fielder. Then again, the fact that of the two HR derbies in which Prince has participated, only one was he accompanied by Braun, does not bode well for the inverse to also be true.
  8. Remind me again what Braun's career numbers are when Prince does NOT hit behind him.
  9. That's what I was getting at. And I don't know why I thought it was McGowan. He does have a phenomenal arm, though.
  10. I would REALLY like to see Blair on this team.
  11. My favorite player of my lifetime. 120% of Prince Fielder Braun. THE MOST FEARED HITTER.
  12. What would be the asking price on McGowan? I remember being behind home plate for Bush's near no-no (broken up by Overbay's triple) and McGowan was absolutely phenomenal that day. I remember thinking that no matter how the Overbay trade worked out, we (would have) got a very good SP. Considering the amount of depth we have, we could probably afford to take a chance on him staying healthy. Any guess on cost?
  13. I have two. Jorge De la Rosa was supposed to be, and should have been, the ace next to Ben and then Yo. Immensely talented (perhaps too talented. He should have dialed down his rep.) but never confident enough in the pitch he was about to throw. He fell victim to the "nibbles." The other wasn't so much a prospect as much as I just held out a great amount of hope for him. Wes Obermueller. I always thought he would settle into a "Dave Bush"-type role. Instead, he was bumped by Dave Bush.
  14. The only player on that list I would take over Rickie is Markakis, who was considered a reach at the time (because he is Greek and Peter Angelos is also, or so the story goes). And while Rickie is a bit fragile, there is no doubting his ability to produce while on the field. Last year, he was finally getting into a groove when again disaster struck. We have other options if he doesn't stay healthy (as the previous poster mentioned), but there really is no substitute for Rickie at the top of the order (especially if they put Gomez or Escobar in the 9 hole).
  15. I don't know if you know this or not but I'm kind of a big Bush fan around here. People know me. I have many leather... What I'm getting at is that I, too, think the bald and bearded Bush is going to be our second or third best starter this year.
  16. Well what's his ceiling for doubles? Brian Roberts has never been a HR hitter (though he does have much better plate discipline) and he's still a very good 2B, though he's quited aged.
  17. Danny G outplayed a 21 year old named Zaza Pachulia in both of their contract years. Good timing, definitely. I wonder how many Heineken commercials the guy does.
  18. I actually take the opposite approach. He went there to work on his defense. He got his tutorials. No one questions his bat, and yet because of his lack of at-bats, we begin to query his prospects at catcher. To me, the difference in prospectdom between Salome and Lucroy is the difference between Peralta and Scarpetta. Obviously the organization has been more apt to praise Lucroy recently, but that doesn't diminish what Salome can do with the bat. I'm truly excited about Salome this coming year. If the McGehee Experiment v. 2.0 doesn't go as swimmingly as v. 1.0 and Gamel gets the majority of the AB's, could Salome be given a June promotion to DH?
  19. How does King Felix's recent contract extention affect what we could expect from a Prince extention? Both are considered to be "hard sells" on being locked up. Would you tear up his current contract and reward him with a similar contract instead? In essence, it would be a 4yr/$68M extention ($17M after his $11M salary this year). I think this would be a phenomenal deal for both sides, and it would keep the Fielder/Braun dual threat alive for the next 5 years.
  20. Locking up Fielder, if possible, has to be at the top of the list 1-2-3. Gallardo showed this year he can't always find the strike zone, and as mentioned, he has 4 years of team control ahead. Locking up those 4 years with Prince-Braun in the heart of the lineup gives us a young trio that few teams can match. Locking up Corey Hart in the past would have killed us. Locking up Bill Hall did kill us. But locking up the youngest player ever to hit 50 HR, even with his body type and all the concerns inherent, is the type of move that makes Milwaukee a dynasty. There is an incredible amount of talent on our farm, but outside of Jeffress and Lawrie, I see no one who can rival Yo-Braun-Prince in talent and ceiling. Championship role players but no one who could even begin to put together a HoF career. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've always been of the opinion that superstars make those around them better (ask Albert Pujols, but gloss over A-Rod's Rangers). Prince is one of the best overall hitters (even if he weren't the greatest young power hitter since the Big Hurt) in the league.
  21. And that's what I was getting at. I know of the technicality (and paranoia over Jack Z. Rule 5'ing him) that led to his inclusion, but since he is on the 40 man, I think this year, he could force his way to AA or even AAA. He's burning options with every year he's not in Milwaukee.
  22. I would say his inclusion of the 40-man would dictate that he gets bumped fairly quickly, as opposed to the one level at a time approach.
  23. Here's a question. Considering these results, who would everyone say is the most overrated and most underrated? Overrated: Logan Schafer - Yes, he was the Brewers' Minor League Hitter of the Year, but at present, he profiles as a fringe starting OF. I think he's definitely going to sip a cup or two of coffee but I'm not convinced he'll be a permanent mainstay and that's what I expect from top-10 prospects (especially those rated higher than Kentrail Davis) Underrated: Brooks Hall - Young, raw, and massive with a matching fastball. But since he wasn't even in the top 20, I will go with..... JEREMY JEFFRESS - Young, raw, and diminutive with an over-powering fastball that is among the best in the minors. Even with questionable maturity, he should still be considered one of our top-5 pitching prospects.
  24. I see only myself and John Sickels have Brett Lawrie atop our rankings. Maybe I'm in the minority but I would take Ryan Braun over Carlos Gomez. But seriously, as always, love the list. Always appreciate seeing what my fellow brethren think of our young hackers and hurlers.
  25. Jeffress: 1-2 SP 2011 It needs to be said.
