  1. LaPorta. He could have conceivably replaced Corey when he went down. Also if we still had the Gator Bat, it would ease the problem of trading Prince without a suitable replacement.
  2. If we give up Fielder for the King, I would assume we would have a deal in place for at least 5 years (which I would be wholeheartedly behind). And then, hopefully, we'd have a 5 year deal in hand for YoGa. We'd be wholly committed to two aces and one of the best hitters in baseball. But that, as I continue to say, is really the only realistic chance of trading Fielder for me.
  3. Does Parra count as a sleeper who may be traded? If we can get a top-20 SP for Parra+ to team with YoGa, I think you have to consider it. Beyond Parra, if Trevor Time continues, I think Coffey could be quite the valuable trade chip. I am a fan, but he's going to be in his final year of control and there are bound to be teams willing to give him a chance to close, especially since he has accumulated saves for multiple teams.
  4. I don't really know if that's so true. They traded a young Edwin Encarnacion for the dated Scott Rolen. I'm not saying that they're going to be trading him for Jamie Moyer but I also don't know if you can so quickly dismiss that they would be interested in JJ Hardy.
  5. I still think Rogers has the higher ceiling. He came from Maine and was a three-sport athlete (which speaks to his competitveness). Bailey has been characterized as not even liking baseball. Now perhaps that's what finally clicked (or maybe it's all the joints in his elbow from throwing the splitter) but I don't regret the pick on pure upside. As for the Reds, I could see them being interested in Hardy. For them, it would give them an infield of: Rolen-Hardy-Phillips-Votto with Bruce a welcome addition to the lineup. Furthermore, I wonder if we could add a Suppan-Harang addition given the contracts if we were to give up more prospects (which I wouldn't be as amenable to doing without said addition). I like the idea of adding young, high upside arms (imagine if we would have done the Jon Sanchez+ rumored deal from last summer...but still, he could have gone the way of Parra on this team too) but I also think JJ still holds a good deal of value because of the track record/added year of control through the demotion. Bailey would be a welcome addition.
  6. Is having Trevor for 2010 really that terrible an idea? I understand if he declines arbitration and goes to another team, it's a consolation that we get two picks (especially after Bruce Seid proved to be quite an adept drafter/signatory) but Trevor would still hold a great deal of value next year if we decided to trade him. And honestly, having the ninth nailed down is a luxury, not only for the starters knowing that it's only an eight inning game (of the good kind) but also from the bullpen itself. Does no one remember how our bullpen was in shambles until Trevor Time erupted? Then the entire bullpen became one of the best in baseball (DiFelice/Stetter/Son of...giving way to Coffey...giving way to the previously shaken Carlito). Going into next season, if we still have the Coffey/CV/Stetter set-up squad for Trevor (all of which is costing us less than what the 'stache was willing to pay Coco mind you), how can you not be pleased and content? He's the chess-master of closers. And I don't want to imagine him doing his jedi-mind tricks on my Brews (Prince would undoubtedly hurt himself swinging for the scoreboard and coming up air).

  9. Well only half the teams in baseball would have to give up their #1 pick.
  10. Give me a 3yr/22M per yr package deal for Harden/Sheets. Slice it up any way we can make it work but that would be 290IP per year of 140ERA+ ball.
  11. If they're going to move Josh Johnson, it's going to be for 2 top prospects. I would think that give the Marlins' track record, they would aim for a Miggy/Dontrelle-type of package. If you look at the amount of years given up in that deal, it is similar to the Josh Johnson situation. So if we were going to pry away Josh Johnson, it's going to cost Gamel.
  12. And who doesn't love a good "Belliard v. Loretta" debate? But seriously, I think simply a full year with Weeks/Escobar up the middle should improve our pitchers' numbers inherently. Our best defensive double-play duo has not played an inning together at the ML level this year. Instead, we've been treated to the Counsell-McGehee and Lopez-Hardy variety show. Whatever gravy we get from trading Hardy will be dressing in next year's Prince Salad (5yr/$84M...final offer. 4 years of FA cost $$$). But that debate is for another time.
  13. I'm addicted to Simmons and Easterbrook. Otherwise...agree. As for Hardy, what about the Angels? Would Arredondo be a possibility? It's a "chicken or the egg" comparison when it comes to starting or relief for me. He would be controllable for another 5 years and he has a Marmol-type ceiling on that arm.
  14. Isn't Taylor Green a bit redundant with their recent trade for Josh Bell of the Dodgy Fellows? And I'd still rather have Villy than Liz (as I think we set him up for failure by anointing him our closer-indsight is always 20/20). As for Guthrie, I would hope we could get a better haul. But whatever it takes to jettison the black cloud that is Hardy, the quicker the better. We ensured that his contract would have twice the value this offseason at the price of alienating him. I get chills imagining Alcides and Rickie turning the double play. Escobar-to-Weeks-to-Fielder.
  15. Ecstatic with Lawrie. Definitely my favorite prospect. Braddock is definitely the best strikeout artist in the system, albeit out of the 'pen. Aguilar proved to be a dominator of A-Ball and a novice of AA players. Still, good FIP and K numbers. Odorizzi...he pitched. He didn't build all that much on last year, but he still is quite young and he didn't fail either. And BrentBrewer continues to make the mouth water while doing so little. Still, Hanley Ramirez didn't dominate either until he became a Fish. ANd Jeffress was going to become the top pitching prospect in baseball....but then he got high....again.
  16. It seems like most of the black marks about him are just a matter of his pride being questioned. I have no problem with "The Board Game." The guy brings OBP to a team that severely lacks it. Imagine him hitting #2 or #5 in next year's lineup. And between Prince-Braun-Bradley, perhaps teams will finally think twice about plunking us (or at least plunk Bradley the most).
  17. I could see them trading Oswalt, as I've heard rumblings that he's not content with the direction of the 'stros (losing). Would Milwaukee be the right destination? Maybe, but it would also take them being overwhelmed, which makes me wonder if the Brewers would be willing to meet their asking price.
  18. How much of Soup's contract would we have to eat if we tried to move him? And also, doesn't Soup have a no-trade clause?
  19. Can Texas even take on Prince's salary next year? Wasn't that the major hitch in this season's trade deadline drama? Nevertheless, I continue to say this. Prince for King Felix. Service time is comparable. Talent is comparable. Need on the other team is comparable. We all know that Jack and Doug wouldn't be averse to speaking. And with the Mariners' Japanese ties (and Prince's father's ties to the island nation, as well), it would be a financial coup for Seattle. And I can't imagine a rotation headed by Felix/YoGa having any rival. Furthermore, I would think King Felix would be more amenable to the type of extention we could afford, though I have also heard murmurs that Seattle is finding it difficult (the same was said of Greinke and we all know how that ended...). Now I am not advocating the sale of our best hitter, and I seriously want to keep him more than almost anything. But if given that regal deal, I would think we would have to accept. Then again, our offense could quickly devolve to SF Giant-like depths.
  20. I have no problem with the "No Match." Charlie Bell was the epitome of a lung cancer that first year, and it seems that the current regime treasures the coronary muscles over the talent level of someone lacking. Scott Skiles learned his lesson in Chicago, and I'm seriously excited. Next year, we'll probably blow chunks, but I guarantee you we won't see Tank Job, Part Deux. This team is unquestionably Mike and Andrew's. Two Olympians. Both gifted, and yet incomplete. But the foundation, nevertheless, they are.
  21. On paper, I think you have to make the deal. You get in return an above average hitter while sacrificing a below average pitcher. However, then you remember that Milton Bradley isn't as fun as his name makes him out to be. I would think I would do the trade in the hopes of packaging Hart/Hardy for a good, young pitcher. Thus, the trade would become: Bradley Good, young pitcher (Buccholz/Morrow/Pelfrey+) for Hart Hardy Soup I would do the above trade. But I would also do the trade in the hopes of putting Bradley in right and retaining Cameron, who by all accounts is one of the key glue guys in the locker room. Prince/Braun have the alpha status. And if Milton Bradley acts up, we can just trade him back to Texas in his walk year.
  22. Back to Harang. What about: Harang Chris Heisey/Drew Stubbs for Corey Hart Hesiey and Stubbs are both putting up good numbers in AAA. Stubbs would be my preference, but either would be a decent replacement. Either way, Harang needs to don the Brew Crew Blue. Before The Pole got to him, he had previously led the NL in K's and tied for the league lead in W's while eating innings like it's some sort of competition. The only thing that scares me is how amenable Cincy would be to Corey. It's near his roots and Cincy would have to love the idea of having: Hart Bruce Votto Phillips Edwin, the Brewer Killer But we do need pitching...hungry pitching...a hunger that can only be satisfied by an immense amount of innings pitched.
  23. And here I was hoping to make a play for Dustin McGowan....again. But seriously, this would be the ideal market for Peavy and it would actually remind me a lot of the summer of the Carlos Lee trade. Both Carlos Lee and Fonzy Soriano were on the block (Peavy/Halladay) and were obviously the cream of the crop. But while the Brewers were able to find an equitable trade, the Nats held out for a bigger haul and ended up with nothing, which is where I think the BJays are going to end up. The Papas would seem to be more willing to trade the YOUNGER, CHEAPER pitcher. I say we become beneficiaries of their kindness.
  24. I second the Roque, but I can't be unhappy about getting a leadoff hitter. Now, we can at least expect to know that the lineup will consist of: 2B Lopez - LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder - - - C Jason Kendall P YO!!! Gamel was doing well, but he visibly looked frustrated so many times when he would get caught looking, or simply flailing. His arm was a welcome sight and only reinforced my belief that he is the future at third. And as for the question of whether he would accept the curly fries if offered, we are firmly committed to Rickie in '10 and hopefully further. The writing is on the wall. Even if he did accept Arby's, he would still welcome a trade (which would allow for a trade), I would have to assume.
  25. What about David Lee? Would he flourish in a system like ours or is he a product of the D'Antoni school of running? He's a restricted FA.
