  1. Finally they got the big fish!
  2. I'd bet it's a longer list than 150. DiMaggio is #1 at 56, and I think Molitor is still second with 39. That's all I know off the top of my head.
  3. If you're a fan of The Jayhawks at all, I'd highly recommend Mark Olson's new solo album "The Salvation Blues". www.amazon.com/Salvation-...044&sr=8-1 Very, very good.
  4. I'd bet that evens out some in the second half (at least to the % that an average team wins), though I'd bet the average team wins a very, very low percentage of games where they score 0-3. I'm too lazy to look, though.
  5. The way he hit at Brevard in '05, you definitely have to think there's something there. That's not an easy place to hit at all, and he went .302/.384/.446 as a 23 year old. Last year, Braun went .274/.346/.438 there as a 22 year old (granted, in his first full season). I don't have any clue what was wrong with him last year, because he was awful, but maybe '05 was the anomaly. We'll definitely have a clearer picture of him once he gets bumped up to Nashville - which you would hope is soon. If he does make it, it's going to be as a utility guy, and there's nothing wrong with that.
  6. Bash Gwynn's power all you want but if we need anything right now, it's somebody who does the little things. Sorry to be a grammarian, but Gwynn doesn't do little things, he does few things.
  7. Yeah, Lofton has a proven record of success. I'm not a big fan of the word "consistent", but if anyone is a consistent player it's Kenny Lofton. He would be a total no-brainer if Hall is out an extended period of time.
  8. Yeah, Snell and Gorzellany are two of the best pitchers in the division. They also caught LaRoche getting hot, and he's a great hitter when he's hot. It's not a big deal, I think a split would have been nice and a reasonable request, but it's not the end of the world.
  9. PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Brewers center fielder Bill Hall was helped off the field with an apparent right ankle injury after he leaped trying to catch Ryan Doumit's solo home run for Pittsburgh in the second inning Thursday. As Hall went back on the play, he used the center field wall padding as support and boosted himself up. After coming down, he lay on his back on the warning track for several minutes while trainers and teammates gathered around him. He limped off the field with support from the team's trainers.
  10. This is a disaster. The last thing the team needs is Gwynn. I'm for letting Hart play CF everyday and just working a platoon between Jenkins/Gross/Mench in the corner spots. Hopefully there's a cheap RH bat that can be had off the scrap heap or buried in AAA that they can get for cash, too.
  11. I actually only know him through his work he's done with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy: www.brooklynvegan.com/arc...urger.html And: www.tomgreen.com/ondemand/?video=1 (which is a little explicit)
  12. I am listening to the new Blitzen Trapper album right now for the third time, and it's probably going to be up there at the end of the year. Great stuff, really lo-fi almost like garage pop or something.
  13. This shows how timely Russ's thread was the other day: p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...5801.topic Capuano is their second best starter, I would say.
  14. No, some time in August.
  15. Run distribution (like win distribution) = meaningless If they would have scored one a piece in the first three innings the end result would have been the same. Three runs doesn't win very often with your fifth starter on the mound. Move on and win tomorrow. No big deal.
  16. Well, yeah. Most #5 starters rarely (if ever) get many starts in the playoffs. I guess what I mean is that the Brewers think Dave Bush is better than Vargas, as well, so you don't have to worry about that. Keeping Vargas in the rotation and not putting Gallardo in it does help the Brewers long term, because they don't need to put the innings on his arm. Villanueva could step in there with ease, probably, but then that would hurt the bullpen some.
  17. Doug Melvin knows that wins are silly. I would trust in that. The time will come when Vargas is bumped from the rotation. I would guarantee that he won't be in the rotation in the playoffs.
  18. The Cubs are for real and we sit here and pee another one down our pants. ****BREAKING NEWS**** The Brewers are also for real. So that's pretty cool. It's fun to watch a battle of the for reals to see who is the most realest.
  19. Don't you worry about the Cubs, Brett? Even a little?.. I don't really worry, no. I wouldn't be shocked if they passed the Brewers briefly in early August, or something, but I have pretty much zero doubt that the Brewers are the best team in the division and will win it by a handful of games when it all shakes out. I'm kind of just enjoying the ride. I like that I was the pessimist guy all winter and now I'm bandwagon guy. Like I think I argued with you that Vargas was awful (which he is), but many were like "Maddux will make him into a 3.75 ERA guy".
  20. I seriously do not understand how we can look SO good on some days, and just awful, like Bad News Bears awful on other days. Every team is like this (actually, about 85% of the league is worse this year). There's no team that plays good in every game.
  21. If I hear "we are still in first place, we have nothing to worry about" I think I'm going to puke. Well, I don't know about "we" (except that the bandwagon fans are the people who use the expression most often), but the Brewers are still in first place and there's nothing to worry about. Puke away, brother.
  22. I usually use a toaster/convection oven.
  23. Spurling hasn't really been the garbage time guy yet, though. Now he's going to be in that spot where he almost never works, if the team is playing well. Then, if he does work, most likely the team is getting lit up. In which case people will rip him, because they associate him with pitching in games where the team loses (and probably giving up runs in the process, due to lack of regular work). I wouldn't say I'm digusted by him, though. I couldn't care less who the garbage guy is. It's hard to get disgusted when you realize that he's the mop-up guy and he's pretty much going to be bad when you have a good rotation and he doesn't get normal work.
  24. Just an FYI, Jonah Keri is going to be on ESPNews shortly discussing the Brewers.
  25. Surprised to see Brettac hasn't come through with a gigantic, huge, "I TOLD YOU SO!" Yeah... if you're talking about Dessens, he's obviously hurt, since he couldn't make it through a simulated game last week. And 27 innings out of Spurling aren't going to make me say he's good. He is what he is, a guy who comes in and pitches non-important innings. But it's cool that a 1.43 WHIP is good now. Spurling's FIP is 4.44, and Dessens' was 4.83. He's cost the team more games than Dessens did, though, I'll give you that. When he implodes, who cares, just move onto the next one. Now that Capellan's gone and Spurling will move into the "pitch every 10 days" role, I'd expect to see his numbers suffer like anyone who is put in that situation.
