  1. yeah, thats exaclty what it is Ned It's definitely a little part of it. He's got a .277 BABIP, last year it was .355. He is hitting fewer line drives this year (17.1% compared to 20.5%). But he has a better ISO (.171 to .125). He's hitting fewer groundballs and an inordinate amount of infield pop-ups. His P/PA is about the same as it's always been, it's at 4.0.
  2. I am in stunned disbelief that Tim Redding is pitching for a major league team.
  3. Tony Wynn instead of Gwynn he would have no trade value at all. Why not "Wynne", then he could be Marvel Wynne's son. Then he'd be a chip off the old block.
  4. Well, pretty much every player in the league is better than Juan Pierre. There aren't a lot of teams that love Juan Pierre right now, or did in the offseason. I don't see Gwynn ever being as good as Roberts or Pierre were. Maybe some team is blinded by the name, but I think he turns to a AAAA guy for good before this season ends. I think once a couple weeks passes, teams will want to give up a much better prospect for Otsuka than what the Brewers will.
  5. A team would be nuts to trade away Tim Lincecum or Felix Hernandez. That's be like the Brewers trading Gallardo, who you said was untradable. Teams won't trade away under 25 pitchers who throw upper 90's for a couple average pitchers or a non-prospect like Jackson. I don't see the Brewers making any changes to the rotation from outside the organization. They have the ability to improve it from within.
  6. Well, it'll be too late in a couple weeks. The more Gwynn plays the more his value will drop.
  7. I wasn't a fan at all at the time they signed him, and I'm still not... That said, I do expect him to revert back to his norms at some point soon. My whole issue with it is that his norms + two good games in October don't mean you pay a player an 8 figure salary. I expected him to be the team's 4th best starter and have an ERA of around 5.00 due to the fact that he has a bad defense playing behind him instead of the terrific one he had in St. Louis. So, I guess he has lived up to expectations for me. If the choices were what they were above, the obvious answer was D.) none of the above. I would have tried to get Ted Lilly, but I wouldn't have paid him what the Cubs did, either.
  8. Actually it is. The expectations were so high because of what he did in the minors and considering his production a massive disappointment is plenty justified. He just went out and did the best he could do, which is what he's doing now. That's why I would say he didn't put these expectations on himself, players don't assign the amount of "potential" they posess to themselves, fans and analysts do. There's not a clear-cut better alternative currently on the roster or in the system, so that's why I say stick with him for a while. If it's August and he's still sucking it up, then maybe make a change.
  9. If he weren't a high draft pick and there wasn't this "home grown" fascination, would folks be as tolerant of his performance? I would say yes, because he has been pretty much an average second baseman to this point. Again, it isn't his fault that there were huge expectations placed on him. Now, expectations have been raised even higher since Braun has come up and immediately raked, and people wonder why Weeks doesn't dominate. He's by no means a finished product where you can just say flat-out he's never going to be a great player. He might not ever become Rickey Henderson, but if he turns into Ray Durham that is a smashing success. There's not any major rush for him to pan out, either, this is only his third season. I wouldn't mind giving Graffy a start a week to rest Weeks, but sending him down won't do anything. As far as I can see, it just seems to be a timing thing and his wrist is probably giving him problems again. He's in a slump, it's not like he has a history of hitting like Neifi Perez and that this is just a continuation of that pattern.
  10. I've honestly never gotten into Jesse Malin, I don't think I've even heard one of his songs. I know he's tight with Ryan and apparently Bruce, but that's all I know.
  11. I wish that some day that Jeff "Hammonds" Suppan pitches a decent major league game again. Hey, man. He can show them how to win in October! That's probably the only way he can help them then, because I don't see him taking a turn in the rotation in the playoffs. Proven Winners? suck.
  12. I think the word is pretty much out around baseball that he doesn't have much. That's why he was available for a minor league deal. I think once he blows up that'll be it and there'll be no trade.
  13. I just had a Tombstone Garlic Bread with pepperoni. It tasted really good, now I feel kind of queasy. If you're fine with that, pick one up in your local grocer's freezer aisle.
  14. Just to kind of clarify his declining defense, it's not that he's suddenly dropping flyballs, or anything. I wouldn't really use that kind of thing to evaluate an outfielder. It's more of a fluke when one gets dropped and it happens to the best of them once in a while. The problem isn't dropping flyballs, it's that he doesn't get to as many balls as he used to. I would also say (this is only my subjective opinion) that he takes a lot of risks diving for balls, and the opportunity for a dive has gone up while his range as gone down, so I would be worried about him diving for and missing a ball he doesn't have a realistic opportunity to catch (case in point being Kotsay's liner in the playoffs last year). That's why errors are pretty useless, too, since a player is never charged with an error on a play that they dive on.
  15. I do have to say, he could (and might still?) play a really mean SS. I think I once even thought it wouldn't be a terrible idea for the Yankees to get him to play there. He used to save a lot of runs.
  16. Another one I'll add... One of my friends when I was younger has parents who own a bar. We used to eat, like, three Luigi's pizzas a day. We'd just ride our bike to the bar and hit the freezer. We'd spend all day and night eating them, drinking a cube of Mountain Dew, and playing the Griffey baseball game for SNES. Glory days.
  17. I'm off on Wednesday, so I may actually watch it for the first time in a few years,
  18. I mentioned that Mark Olson album in the Recent Purchases thread last night. That's a solid album. I like Elvis Perkins, but I honestly didn't listen to it enough to put it on my list. There's some very good songs on it, for me it's a really good album to listen to in the winter. I don't know much about the National What I know is that I cannot stop listening to them. EDIT: The National did a Daytrotter Session recently, which you can find here: www.daytrotter.com/articl...-off-guard They perform "Lucky You" which is a rarity (and one of their best songs).
  19. Make a solid core of SportsCenter anchors. I don't even know who anchors the show anymore. The anchors I would like to be on SC are: I demand that you add Cindy Brunson to this list. For the most part, my viewing of ESPN-related shows is usually relegated to ESPNews at 5 AM on mute, and she always seems to be on there and looking oddly hot.
  20. Yeah, LaRoche was bound to start raking. As some bad country song says, you can't keep a good man down. As much as a lot of people hate to hear it, it was just a few of those days, just in a row.
  21. Call him The Burning Bush, 'cause dude has been on fire for like a month.
  22. Maholm can rake.
  23. When he's starting every game and leading off, I might cry, however. This is what happens in my house when Gwynn plays too much... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1207/742000766_e2245a89e4.jpg
