  1. Man, he looked like good ole Ed Spiezio, there.
  2. TGJ isn't a big fan of the walks so far. 2 walks in 69 ML AB. Even during his decent year in AAA this year he didn't walk much. He's going to have to change that quick. His dad didn't walk that much and he got lots of hits. So there.
  3. Signed, Dusty Baker and Ned Yost. It hurts because it's true.
  4. Gwynn does his best work on the bench, I think.
  5. Yeah, young pitchers never get hurt. A 25 year old hitter who's just getting better is what the Brewers need. The odds say that his chances of staying healthy and productive are way, way higher than Gallardo's. There's a decent chance that Gallardo goes out next year and blows up his arm - it even happens to guys with good mechanics.
  6. I think I'd trade Gallardo for Crawford.
  7. Yeah, how about the ace today?
  8. Anyone taking bets to see who it'll be? Gwynn. This one has kind of been simmering for a while.
  9. Basically, Barry Bonds is awesome.
  10. Rottino isn't Hart, though. That's why there really isn't an outcry for him to play.
  11. .277/.286/.340 It's like having two pitchers hitting back to back.
  12. As I have been for at least a month now, I'm waiting for the A's to finish the AL West off. Yeah, it's pretty much wrapped up, but it will be nice to see them do it, hopefully this weekend at home.
  13. Yeah, I was just listening to the Dead. That's trippy.
  14. Jenkins in a platoon isn't worth his current contract but it's really not THAT bad. Unless someone would be willing to take on his most salary for next year, it probably won't be worth trading Jenkins this off season. I'm thinking they should keep him. If he OPS's .850 in 450 or so AB's in a platoon, and plays his usual defense, he's worth the $7 million or whatever. I think that actually makes more sense than overpaying in a trade to get a big bat, in concert with not getting sufficient return on Jenkins in a salary dump. Besides, if they wanted to, and he was putting up nice numbers, they could trade him (because they certainly wouldn't pick up the 2008 option). But, like others have said, Yost has to actually platoon him.
  15. Every game is worth one in the standings. Ask the Tigers as they blow their division lead they built in April, May, and June. They're all worth the exact same. No matter who you play or when you play them.
  16. John Manuel. Terrific. Seriously awesome. He provided his reasoning, and it was solid. What other media members (especially in baseball) would do that, and for a message board of all things? Most don't even acknowledge their existence. Thanks, also to Jim, for being able to communicate with John Manuel.
  17. Unfortunately, people are still going to say the same stuff. "These are meaningless." As if a HR on April 10 is more meaningful than one on September 10.
  18. He started at second for the Red Sox last year after they traded for him. They won 90+ games, and he hit .319/.355/.457 for them. A real clown, I tell ya.
  19. Why does Graffanino get lumped in with the "clowns"? Mr. Villanueva, welcome to the starting rotation. Replacing Ohka, not Davis, you mean. Davis will be back. He's just had some tough luck for a lot of this year. Are you aware that the best FA pitcher on the market this year has more walks than DD does?
  20. True Leadoff Hitter ? Whatever that means.
  21. Throwing at a guy's butt is different than hitting a guy "in the head". What is this, professional wrestling? Seriously, you'd advocate hitting a guy in the head with a fastball? All I'm saying is how about showing your dominance and superiority over a hitter by striking him out? Gallardo's got nothing to prove in AA - he should just dominate, junk like throwing at guys is beneath him. I said earlier - you can completely alter the course of a guy's life by hitting him in the head in AA. And what for? How can you be "shown up" when there's hardly a crowd and none other than minor league fans even know there's a game?
  22. becauese they didn't want to face them So that's competitive fire? That seems more like cowardice. Heck, hitting a guy because he got the best of you in a previous encounter seems pretty weak in general.
  23. Doesn't the fact that he has dominated every level he's pitched at already show that he has "competitive fire", how about the fact that he is a professional baseball player? Stuff like this is so archaic. It's unprofessional and immature. Especially the fact that he did it in the minor leagues, where you could completely alter the course of a young man's life with one poorly located "beanball". This isn't the big leagues where it's multi-millionaires facing millionaires.
