    All this talk about the slap-hitting Gwynn, and no talk about the solid-hitting Corey Hart rotting away on the bench. Is he even on the roster anymore? I thought it was implied.     He had 80 something that year, I think. The SB just isn't that good of a play, especially when your team struggles to score runs. I'd much rather have Kevin Youkilis leading off than Juan Pierre or some junk like that. With Weeks, it's fine because he'll probably make it. I'm just glad Ned doesn't want to run into outs.

    And that is why Gabe is better suited to be a 3-4-5 guy. That a boy Gabe. You know Rickey Henderson hit 28 HR and slugged .577 leading off one year? There's nothing wrong with a leadoff man with power. all im saying is that gross should be a 4th outfielder and a bat off the bench. I'll agree with that, I guess. He wouldn't kill them as a platoon player, though.

    Well, more than anything "us guys" think RISP AVG is a junk stat. Clark has a .381 OBP - there's no way Gwynn would do that. I never said he was Jones or Edmonds, either.

    gross and clark are 4th and 5th outfielders on real teams but we are a sorry team in asking them to start and we wonder why we lose. How, exactly? Those guys are plenty good enough to start for a lot of teams. Gross can play all three spots and hit with patience and pop. Clark is a very solid OBP guy who can hit. They're the least of the team's problems.

    Once again an extra base hit with no one on base, which is why we need someoned hitting singles. They need someone hitting singles? They just need baserunners. Since Gross has a .366 OBP (third on the team, first among players in the lineup tonight) it makes all the sense in the world to hit him at the top. Personally, I'd start him and Clark and bat them 1 and 2 in whatever order (likely Clark 1st).

    It's nice to here Gross is batting .154 leading off. That's a good way to produce runs. These lineups are hilarious. ...in 26 AB's. He's the third best hitter in the lineup tonight, he needs to hit somewhere up top. Considering he's a good OBP guy, leadoff makes sense.

    In AAA, Gwynn: - No power (every level, actually) - Sub-par walk rate - Sub-par K rate (especially when he's billed as a "contact hitter" - he isn't) He hit a bunch of singles, basically.

    The dude couldn't hit in AAA.

    Game over. I don't know how it should have been a 1 run inning, though. It was pretty inconsequential that Ramirez wound up on second with the pitch Ohka made. Gross can hit, Gwynn can't. They need offense right now.

    I think this team was headed to the post-season until they lost Hardy, Ohka, Sheets, Koskie, and now Weeks. I totally agree with that.
