  1. That was flat-out stupid. What was the point of hitting and running?
  2. I sure wouldn't call it unprofessional. It's no worse than the bat flip Bill Hall could have done had he not thrown away an AB with the bases loaded. With less than two outs and the bases loaded, swing for the fences. A K sure beats a DP. Zambrano is just a special pitcher.
  3. I agree with you bthurley. It's just one series, and it's against one of the top five pitchers in the league and against the hottest team in the league. Just bad luck when they came up on the schedule. BTW, how was that a hit on the ball Hunter hit? Lee should have caught that, and he should be DH'ing so someone could have caught that.
  4. No doubt, end. Outside of the San Diego game, he really hasn't been very impressive - and it wasn't really like he was dominant in that one, either. He wasn't having too good of a season peripheral-wise in AAA. I'm just glad that he revealed his unreadiness soon so that they can get him back down there quickly. I think I'd rather have Eveland back up, personally, but hopefully all is well today with Ohka.
  5. Patrick, do you think I am seeing things when I see Gillespie as a RH version of Brad Wilkerson, at least tools-wise? Obviously, he didn't flat-out destroy the way Wilkerson did at UF, but watching him play a handful of times the past couple weeks reminds me of Wilkerson.
  6. Who compared the White Sox to the Brewers? It was just to show that every team, even the best one in the league, goes through stretches when they lose to teams they're better than.
  7. If Khalid doesn't watch it, he's going to make himself into a big league relief pitcher before too long.
  8. The Brewers released Brevard County infielder Josh Murray Already?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Like Mass said - fitting that he goes in the same fashion he hit - meekly.
  9. Exactly BadgerFan. Does it suck that they lost two games to the Royals? Undoubtedly, but there's a post in the venting thread by BSCR from 5/31 where he shows some of the bad stretches the White Sox had last year, including losing two of three to the Royals. Two games is 1.23% of a season. Sure, they "should" have won (yesterday, I agree), but much more is made of games they "should" have won but you never really hear anyone comment about games they "should" have lost but managed to win. Basically, it happens. If you're going to fly off the handle and say the team sucks because they lost two games, I don't know what to tell you.
  10. I've been looking forward to this game all week, or actually since it was named that Liriano would be facing off against the Rocket. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/scor...xQDzgRvLYF Pedro is pitching at noon, also, and then King Felix (pitching much better lately) goes against the Dodgers at 9:00. Good day to have the Extra Innings or XM.
  11. That was an overreaction that only a mastermind like Leyland could perpetrate.
  12. Anyone else find it odd that the Leyland is putting out a lead-off man sporting an OBP of .287? One man's odd is another man's (named Leyland) genius. I'm sure he yelled at Inge and told him that from now on he will have a .400 OBP. That's how it works, right?
  13. Yeah, they are very good, and there's some pop at the top, too. I can't think of a non-Brewers player that I've had more fun watching this season than Curtis Granderson.
  14. Thanks to Russ' blog, they had a run differential of -24 in games started by those two. So, if you re-did the pythag, they'd have a winning % of .465.
  15. The straight up pythagorean has them at 31-39. However, if you use BP's "third-order wins and losses", they have them at .500. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/standings.php
  16. Not sure if this is the ideal place for this, or if there even is one, but there was a really good article in the NYT yesterday about the three Rice aces from the 2004 draft (Humber, Townsend, Niemann). Here's one interesting quote: According to Glenn Fleisig, the institute's director of research, who wrote the paper with Andrews and others, the results showed that those who often pitched through fatigue; pitched more than eight months a year; pitched in four or more showcases or tryouts in their careers; or had poor mechanics and conditioning were more likely to need surgery than those who did not. www.nytimes.com/2006/06/1...ref=slogin
  17. I'm guarded because in the past 177.1 IP before this start, he had an ERA over 5.00 and 117 BB. It's not like I have a problem with Rogers or hope he fails, but when a guy pitched that poorly against competition he should dominate (a top 5 pick shouldn't have a 5.13 ERA in low-A, even if he's from Maine) you almost have to be a little skeptical. Also, it's tough to get too high on a guy (for me, at least) when he's at least two years away from MLB and only 20 with a lot of injury nexus to get through.
  18. Let's hope it's a legit turnaround for Mark, and not just a solid 20 IP amid a rough season. Either way, he's definitely starting to show what he's capable of, and why the Brewers took him at #5, and that's great to see.
  19. Whatever actions are or aren't taken, I'd just like to see the end result be huntsvillefan continuing to be a poster and member, because his contributions to the forums are excellent.
  20. He needs to hit himself out of this little slump, moving him down to 7th is fine for me, I guess. That is some pretty nice table-setting ability in front of Lee/Fielder, with OBP's of .386, .383, and .353 in front of them. Arroyo's bound to come back to earth, and Davis is bound to revert to form with a second rock-solid start in a row, I think.
  21. You had it spelled right the first time, Joe. Another guy that is in need of an outright release is Richmond Lockwood Sexson, he's hitting .212/.280/.394 with 10 HR and 42 RBI.
  22. But then when he goes nuts, the same posters will be kneeling before Jenks. It's the same old thing as it always is. He was waaaay worse than this last season at this point, then, like someone else mentioned, he went on to have one of the best seasons of his career. I was among those who was "fuddin'" (callback, anyone?) on Jenks last year, then looked like an idiot as he went berserk at the plate for three months. I won't make that mistake again. And, bucksman, aren't you glad anytime something goes bad? They're not going to deal Jenkins when they have cost certainty on him next season. Seriously. You can keep yelling for him to be traded, but it's going to fall on deaf ears. If they trade him, and I expect them to eventually, it's going to come next year when his contract is more palatable for a team looking to rent. Familiarity breeds contempt, I guess.
  23. Or how about this line, in 74 games: .262/.309/.437, 10 HR, 38 RBI Guess who that was. Baseball is a game of streaks. Sometimes good hitters suck. It happens all the time, yet it appears to only be noticed for one player in particular.
