  1. I feel the same way SF...frustrating to blow a shot at stealing one, but its a long season. They'll be there, but so will we. I'm more frustrated with Fisher too. Everyone complained about Sveum last year, but I thought he was great at 3B. I like being aggressive. Even if you get a few out by a mile plays that look horrible, overall they picked up a few runs by their aggressiveness. That and a better turn by Rickie or at least the right call...we're talking about gravy day tomorrow.
  2. Marmol was filthy. Braun seemed impatient at the plate the last two games...he swung at some bad pitches. The first 2 strikes to Prince were unhittable. Much like the Cubs losing on some little things yesterday, so did the Brewers tonight. Fisher holding Hart in the 1st, the bad double play call (although a better throw from Rickie makes it obvious), Fontenot's AB meant we'd face Soriano...and finally the meatball into Soriano's wheelhouse. I find it frustrating how the Brewers pitch Soriano...even CC struggled with him last year. The guy crushes balls at the knees.
  3. Blew that one...it will only make for a more epic collapse by them possible.
  4. And a big phew...nice outing by DiFelice. Can't say I understand the bullpen calls tonight, but it's early and I'm going to give Macha the benefit of the doubt. He certainly has a better idea of what's going on than I do. Let's go CV in he 9th...how about some Badger Mutual Insurance runs here!!!
  5. Close battle for MVP today between Rickie and Soriano. He was a hack out there in left today.
  6. WOW...I just woke the kids up from their nap!!! What a game for Rickie...he looked great in the field and came up huge. If Rickie plays like he has this entire week, he's going to be big this year. Very encouraging start by Looper as well.
  7. RIP Eddie. Very fond memories of Eddie and some of those mid-70s bullpen mates like Billy Castro and Tom Murphy. You guys have it right...he was incredibly versatile. The closest I've seen recently was Solomon Torres last year. A one inning save one night and a three-four inning outing the next time out. Some of those mid-70s guys played a big role in establishing the Brew Crew as a respectable and competitive franchise...Eddie was certainly one of them.
  8. Happy Opening Day everyone. One of the best days of the year...I can smell those parking lot brats from Los Angeles. BTW...having Jerry Augustine (my all time favorite Brewer) on Brewers Live has already made this the best season ever! I agree with cheesecups...1/3 at least with these matchups would be fine. I love the way Rickie Weeks looked in SF...he's my pick for a big day. We just have to get 1-2 off of Harden then get him out of there after 5. We can rack up some crooked numbers in the 6-7th innings. Go Brewers!!!
  9. Re: Hall - has to be matchups, he had a critical double last night...of course it was against a lefty. I agree with Ennder as well. Tonight's matchup is fairly even...slight edge to Cain over Parra, with an edge to the Brewers lineup offset by the Giants home field advantage. Looks fairly even and going into the game, it should be the best matchup of the series. We'll be dogs in all three against the Cubs...they are throwing their top 3 starters against our bottom 3. Is April 9th too early for some "Big Boy Time"?
  10. Congrats to the Giants for beating the Crew for the first time since 2007, but let's be realistic NoCal. Lincecum v. Suppan...who didn't see that coming. The surprise wasn't they won, it's that we lit up Cy Young and they lit up the dregs of our staff. The number of outings that Lincecum has like that this year will likely be equivalent to the number of 10+ run outings by the Giants...not many.
  11. Is it just me or did McClung seem more effective as a starter than a reliever last year once he got by the first few starts. He seems to throw better when his velocity is a little lower and he can settle in with control. He was up in that mid-high 90s range yesterday and got lit up. He was probably amp'd up since it was Opening Day. I hope he can settle down and pitch in the low-90s with control. I believe he's more effective there. So maybe the key on Suppan isn't to get his ERA (rough proxy to other metrics, I agree) to below 5, it's that the other 4 starters pitch well enough to make Soup the obvious 5th starter. If Yo is in the low 3's, Parra high 3's to 4, Bush & Looper low 4's and Soup 5ish...that would be a solid enough staff to push for a playoff spot. If Soup is truly healthy and we give a mulligan to yesterday...his target is among the more probable and attainable of that group.
  12. I agree with FtJ. It would be would be June (10-12 starts) at the earliest and the ERA would have to be in the 6 range to make the switch. The other options are not obvious upgrades so the gap would have to be substantial. My guess is he'll stick all year, even with the type of numbers he put up last year. Is he overpaid? Yes....get over it, the contract is a sunk cost and guaranteed. Can he outperform the league average #5 starter? Absolutely...and if he can get the ERA closer to his career averages or even sub-5.00, he will be perfectly serviceable and probably our best option.
  13. On the bright side, I'm not worried about Bush since he's not a reliever...he'll settle down when he starts. I'm not worried about Julio either since he won't be with the team that much longer.
  14. It's ok, since the Astros are the team in the division that has no holes, our magic number against them went down by one yesterday.
  15. Betcha Howry feels good about that after last years game. Uggh. Guess we wrote the game off anyway with Soup v. Cy Young, but didn't expect to lose it vs. their pen.
  16. Bob Howry...now there's some good memories. How about loading 'em up for Brauny!!!
  17. ...Soup pitched great... sorry, couldn't resist.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. By the way...the MLB At-Bat Gameday Audio app on the iPhone works like a champ. Uke & Cory coming through loud and clear.
  19. Hilarious. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  20. If Weeks v. 4.0 is anything like the last 6 weeks of 2007...we are in business.
