  1. I'm not proud of it but this show has me hooked. Both the Texas and Now the spinoff in Western PA. I'm just curious if I'm in the minority (that's my guess) and most people are appalled by it or don't even watch it.
  2. Fun game last night and was awesome watching them fight back in it. I think this team is fun to watch, period. They make some mistakes, but it's not for a lack of effort.
  3. Sorry for my ignorance but how do you not have water in Alaska?
  4. Got close for a second tonight, but only to disappoint. Oh well, on to the next.
  5. Hey that sounds like you made the right decision. I think it sounds like you are in a solid situation and there is room for you to grow there. Enjoying your job and the people around you is more important than a little extra money. That is always nice but it wears off after a short time and then you are left with day to day frustration (if you take a job just for more money). Some day an opportunity might come a long that is worth the risk, but doesn't seem like this one was. Good luck.
  6. I never watch Sports Center anymore. I actually don't watch ESPN anymore unless it's a game or pre game stuff for College or NFL. This is coming from a person that would watch it non stop back when I was a kind through just out of college. I loved sports center when it was a highlight show.....but I understand why it's changed. Anyone can see highlights immediately now online, so a TV highlight show doesn't bring much to the table. Except for of course all us old timers who miss the way it used to be (age 30 and up maybe )
  7. Ha! good stuff everyone. No baseball name, but love that it's Jackie Robinson day. Older brother will turn 3 in May.
  8. My wife gave birth to our second son a few days ago, April 15th. So let's hear your best tax jokes. Wanted to let you all know. Lacking in sleep right now but all the love I feel makes up for that! Anyone who has advice for good ways to keep the older sibling happy and excited about his younger sibling, let me know! He's been pretty good so far but we're only a few days in.
  9. Well that was fun! I was listening in bed last night and then just went back and watched the highlights. Man Santana crushed that ball!
  10. Yes, I think that is somewhat the norm these days. Part of the reason they do it is to make sure they don't have someone who can talk a big game, but doesn't have the ability to back it up. As a recruiter, I always tell the people I work with, if you like your job but are underpaid, ask for a raise. I'm sure most companies have policy on this, how often you can do that, but maybe this would be a good time. Make a case for why you feel you are underpaid for your skill set and the worst they can do is say no.
  11. I think a lesson can really help you. Especially someone who won't try to give you a new swing, but just work with what you have and try to tweak it in the right direction. I've only done one lesson, but I really needed to adjust my outside in swing. I knew what I was doing but just couldn't figure out how to get it going in the right direction. The lesson helped a ton. Minor tweaks but got me to feel what I needed to do. Then you have to bang some balls at the range to make it stick. I would have loved to go back to the guy but we moved, so that wasn't an option. I'd imagine a follow up or two would be pretty nice. Of course the other way to lower your score quickly is just spending some time on the green putting and chipping!
  12. If you get a chance, go to Bakersfield in Over The Rhine, if you like street type tacos. It's one of my favorite places down there. That will give you a good look at what's going on in the area. Expect a 2 hour wait, no matter what time of day. The cool part is they will take your cell # down and then call you when they are ready. So you can just go to a bar nearby and have a few drinks. It's a casual fun atmosphere and great food! If you just do a Yelp search for OTR, you can look at all the restaurants and ratings. So if you are feeling like a certain type of food, you'll be able to find it. There are just so many great options around Vine street. I would maybe take a walk to Washington Park, a few blocks over from all the restaurants. Pretty cool downtown park. Other favorite restaurants, Taste of Belgium, The Eagle (fried chicken!), ATavola (Neapolitan Wood Fired Pizza), Taft's Ale House, Senate (fancy hot dogs). Close to game time the bars next to the stadium are fun to hang out at. More commercial, but great atmosphere (that's their tailgate scene). Moreline, Holy Grail, and Yard House are always full of people pre and post game. Ok I'll stop....for now.
  13. Hahaha! The chili comments are cracking me up! I live in Cincinnati, so hopefully can help you out. I would say, don't eat the chili!!! They claim to be famous for chili, but as CheezWiz hinted, it's kind of a joke to outsiders. As Ron White once said, "I don't think you told those boys down in Mexico you were having a competition....." How many days are you staying and what are you looking to do in your time here? You can PM me too if you like. I'd suggest staying downtown or as adamb100 said, across the river in KY. There is a lot of action down along the river and you can just walk across the bridge to the stadium. My personal suggestion would be to stay downtown, near Vine street. There is an amazing rebirth going on down there (the area called Over the Rhine around 12th and Vine). I think the Westin might be on Vine. So many amazing restaurants that are locally owned (non chain). It's really been one of the cooler things I've witnessed, the transformation happening here. 5 years ago or so it was the most violent part of the city and now it's the place everyone wants to be. As Fondy said, it's not much of a tailgating place for baseball games (they do for Bengals). I've seen people do it, I think they were Brewers fans, now that I think about it, but it's definitely more of a bar/restaurant scene pre and post game. Anyway, let me know what you are looking to accomplish with your visit and I'll do my best to help.
  14. Boy, Jordan just melted down there yesterday at the Masters. What a great finish to the tournament. I really can't believe that happened.
  15. Well that was a fun win yesterday. I just watched the highlights. I agree, having no expectations makes watching this team a lot of fun. Keep playing good baseball!
  16. Finally getting to the game. Great highlights so far! Keep it rolling!
  17. Masters week! Discuss
  18. Yeah, we are basically in the city too and the deer are thick! Doesn't help that the old lady down the street feeds them everyday! But they'd still be here no matter what.
  19. Anyone who has experience, please give me advice on things to help with a successful vegetable garden. I did a couple raised beds in the backyard. I've been planting in pots for the last few years because we've moved around and haven't been able to establish a garden. Ok, I've already assembled the beds and I'm going to put some wire mesh underneath to keep moles from getting in there. Seems there are a lot of moles in the neighbor's yards and they venture over sometimes. I'm getting a mix of top soil, mushroom mix (I think that's what it is called) and manure, delivered today. Any suggestions before the dirt goes in, for the raised beds? Any tips on maximizing space? Mainly Tomatoes, Cucumbers, herbs, lettuce, and a couple random things like carrots and maybe a pepper plant or two. Any advice with deer would be great. We have a group of 6 that walk by our yard every morning and evening. They usually don't come in our yard because we have a fence and nothing inside our yard except grass.....until now. I'm sure they will make the easy jump over the fence once there are plants. Thanks in advance!!
  20. Boy I didn't think this had anything to do with the refs. I thought it was a couple mistakes that ended us. Hayes put that ball out in the open an it was sitting there between two players. Could they have called a foul? Maybe, but that was a loose ball in my opinion. Then it was a straight steal on the next possession. I think there were some bad calls but I also think we got away some too. It was heart breaking for sure, but it was on us, not the refs. I'm disappointed that we loss but excited for the future.
  21. I think an argument can be made that a pro sports team creates many other jobs outside of the organization. Hotels, restaurants, bars, security, tourism.... all of that stuff. Do I agree with them holding taxpayers hostage, no. Especially when they just had a new stadium built in the not too distant past. There should almost be a contract when a new stadium is built, that the team can not leave, or ask for taxpayer dollars for a new stadium for X amount of years.
  22. So, who got the most snow up in WI? How much were the big totals?
  23. Sorry Hawing. I too think the extra attention is the best thing you can do. I think they figure it out after awhile and as time goes by they do better. I know you saw my post that our dog recently passed away. At first I didn't think our other dog really cared. I think he liked the extra attention we were giving him. I think he was confused for quite awhile. It almost seemed like he was waiting for our other dog to come in the door every time we came back to the house. We decided to get another puppy a few weeks ago and our other dog did not love it. He usually loves all dogs, but he didn't want to play and seemed very depressed. He even was gaining weight. That's when it hit me, I think he was actually struggling a little bit with the other dog being gone. I do think he misses him. Of course throwing a puppy in to the mix is a lot to deal with as well, but hey are starting to get along a lot better now and our other dog seems back to normal. Best of luck with the transition, it's not easy. I hope you are doing ok with the loss.
