  1. Seriously I'm tired of hearing about it at this point. They had 7 solid RP for the entire 2nd half of the season. They didn't have the disadvantage in the Brewers series and if they have it in the Rangers series it isn't by much. They had a clear advantage in the bullpen in the Phillies series. It baffles me that this is still a story brought up all of the time when all of the issues happened in the first 2 months of the season.
  2. I've always felt Bud tanked the Brewers on purpose to use as a platform for his ideas on revenue sharing etc. As for his job as commissioner, I think he's done well even if I don't agree with all of the changes.
  3. http://oi56.tinypic.com/wu579l.jpg I'm sure this was meant to show everyone how cool Eric Davis is and not to suggest they all put me on ignore!
  4. Carpenter is in decline and there is no way to know what kind of pitcher Wainwright will be next year coming off of a season lost to injury. They also got the top end of expectations out of a number of players on their roster (especially Berkman). I also wouldn't just assume the Cardinals are a 90 win team next year. We have the core roster of a team that can make the playoffs even without Fielder, we just need to add the right pieces and not have players fall off the map like McGehee did this year and Hart did a couple years ago and maybe have a young guy step up which we really didn't have at all this year (to be fair not many were given a chance). I don't think it is as bleak as some want to make it out to be but we certainly aren't division favorites either without some good moves.
  5. Some would certainly say it is. If I were going to point to Pujols though I'd look at the fact he watches his home runs for like an hour each and every time as showing up other teams more than any beast mode could.
  6. The Brewers are not going to build a 96 win team. They have to shoot for a 90 win roster and hope they catch a couple breaks, that is what most teams have to do. So I'd disagree on the part about replacing the 5 wins they overachieved. I think it is probably doable if they sign the right players but it won't be easy and there won't be much safety net.
  7. The less NBA that creeps into baseball the better, football already has too much of that horrible attitude, baseball doesn't need it.
  8. I also avoided the forum for half of the season because of the extreme negativity that prevailed every time the team or a specific player struggled for a little bit. When the forums are so negative they just aren't fun to read, I'm not talking about a specific poster though, just in general. If I reread these forums without any context I'd have thought the Brewers lost 100 games.
  9. I see a whole lot of reading what you want into a bunch of really non specific comments here. It is like a Rorschach test, you are going to judge these comments based on your own opinions because most of it was so generic. These seems to be the case every time someone complains about what one of these guys says to the public, most of the time I feel like I'm reading a completely different interview than half the forum.
  10. Betancourt was better than I expected, I hope we don't re-sign him. But if he can put up a year like he did last year maybe some team will start him, I figured he'd end up a backup guy or maybe move to 2B for someone next year.
  11. Managing the players is the #1 job of the manager, the on field stuff is really secondary to be honest. Macha was ok with the on field stuff but so bad at the player management that I doubt he ever gets a new job. Roenicke is in his first year managing so I would hope his in game stuff gets better with time, having managed through the post season once can only help as well, having his team not play the worst baseball of their season during them will help too of course.
  12. Which is how both teams acted for 162 games before the playoffs as well.
  13. Betancourt was above replacement level this year, not sure he can manage that two years in a row though and I really wouldn't want to pay him in hopes that he does.
  14. 600 PA is a small sample when you are talking about WAR, 194 PA is tiny. I don't think Fielder is the right move for the franchise personally.
  15. Having watched baseball heavily for 30 years now I can say without a doubt, yes we can expect different results. Judging a player over a single season is dangerous, worrying about what they did over 3 starts is just silly. Teams that flip out and make big changes to the roster just because of playoff results tend to not fare very well the next season because they are going about the process completely the wrong way. There is no magic formula for winning the playoffs, get the right guys hot at the right time, stay healthy, maybe favor your bullpen a little extra.
  16. I really don't think we are going to just dump McGehee, I expect him to have the inside shot at the job at and at least end up being a RH platoon. I don't know if that is good or bad but it seems realistic given his history. Teams hate giving up on a player after just one bad season because there is at least a 50% chance it was just a fluke.
  17. You are mixing cliches here. Defense wins championships is a football cliche, nobody says that about baseball. The baseball one is pitching wins championships. Neither of them are accurate, good teams with a little luck on their side win championships, regardless of how they are built.
  18. I like him better than Yost or Macha now that the season is done, Yost did more completely baffling things and Macha had the team playing like zombies. The most important thing will be seeing how much he learned this year and if he changes the things I didn't like come next season.
  19. Best season I can remember following since I only really remember the playoffs in 1982. I don't really sweat the post season very much since when you distill football down to 1 game series or baseball down to 5 or 7 game series any team can beat any team. You just hope your team shows up and ours clearly did not. Just feels a little worse in baseball since we don't know we'll be back soon like with the Packers.
  20. I'm not sure I think it a very good one. The Packers were the most talented team in the league in 2010, they just had a ton of injuries and it took them a while to get the inexperienced players playing well to offset them. On a side note either the ump changed the strike zone or this is a decidedly Cardinal favoring ump because this is just ridiculous that suddenly these pitches are strikes.
  21. That AB by Jay sums it up for me, that strike zone is absolutely tiny. The Cardinals are taking much better advantage of it than the Brewers but this really is a strike zone that does nothing but promote hitting.
  22. He might not be an ace but he is a #1, just depends on how you decide to defince ace. There aren't 30 starters better than him in baseball.
  23. You can't come inside when the ump calls it a ball even if it hits the plate. The inside strike zone has been silly all series long and the Cardinals have compensated by sitting right on the plate. The Cardinals are also just hot offensively, even if they literally had someone out there trying to throw meatballs for batting practice they probably couldn't hit any better than they are this series. They just aren't missing anything. The pitching certainly shoulders a big part of the blame but there is plenty of it to go all around including the umps, the defense and kudos to the Cardinals offense.
  24. Part of it is because the umps have refused to give us strikes on the inside corner all series long. They are going for high scoring games is my guess.
  25. The defense has really hurt all series. Jay should have been out by 2nd with even a mediocre throw/catch, Pujols was safe at home and we caught a break. We can't keep giving up small edges this game on defense, they have to make plays.
