  1. I'd say Braun is our future RF not LF. He has a strong arm, he has better range than most LF and he said in the all-star game that he felt it was easier to read the ball off of the bat out there.
  2. I'm more worried about the way Macha is treating Gallardo and Parra than not playing Gamel personally.
  3. It wouldn't surprise me if Gerut has a higher OBP than Lopez from here on out, we are talking about a player with a BABIP spike who has had bad OBP most seasons. Really hard for me to get solidly on board with this.
  4. Not understanding something doesn't mean it isn't valuable. Even 5 years ago we had people saying this same thing about OPS like people were insane for using it. Any stat you want to pull out involving him suggests he has been a mediocre player at best for a large chunk of the last 3 seasons so of course people aren't going to be too excited. There is always a chance that the last 500 PA is a new baseline of course, if it is then the deal looks a lot better. Thats not to suggest the deal is bad btw, just not something that helps the team a ton. Maybe a 1 win deal for us when we probably need more than that.
  5. You mean stats that are more meaningful than things like AVG, RBI etc? Bit confused by calling it a 3rd tier stat. It is basically just an improved OPS that is scaled to the same general scale as OBP. It also includes SB/CS and it isn't corrected for park/league I don't believe which probably helps Lopez a bit since the nats park was a pitchers park.
  6. I sure hope there is another deal coming, Lopez is underwhelming and throwing away prospects for a minor upgrade doesn't do it for me. Maybe this means we dump Hall which I'd like, otherwise I'd rather just start Gamel more and keep our prospects.
  7. I disagree, until that 3 game ugly streak he was much better with RISP than without so this would have just been normal. Most of the season his issue has just been letting on too many baserunners, not falling apart once they get on base. It was just a really terrible 3 game stretch where that was the issue.
  8. My wife (Maureen Mack) wrote that article and she says thanks for the kind words about it. She fell in love with their kid for what it is worth, incredibly bright child.
  9. I suppose Bush is nibbling when he has issues throwing strikes in the 1st as well.
  10. He is a guy with an abnormally high BABIP, basically no power and pretty good defense~. Seriously once the BABIP drops back down 40 points you have a .275/.340/.350 type player and that is giving him credit for keeping the improved BB/9 and ISO he has so far this year.
  11. Including minor league numbers in the equation Randy Wells most likely is a Suppan level pitcher if anything, he has had a good streak his first time in the majors but I expect him to end up in the bullpen personally or more likely injured early since he relies so heavily on the slider.
  12. I'd say one guy has been mediocre in fulltime play and one has so few AB we don't know anything about them. Given the playtime issues here their career numbers are almost certainly better indicators than this small random sample of PA.
  13. But he started the slide basically after the bag, if there ever was an interference call to be made that was it and it was just him not using his head. Both plays he screwed up seemed to just be him not having his head in the game. As for the lineup it is silly to think changing the lineup changed our runs scored, I hope you realize this and were just looking for excuses to complain. We wouldn't have scored 10 runs had we used last nights lineup, it had at best a negligible effect. I hope Braun is ok.
  14. I sure hope Cameron gets the night off tomorrow. That is a run he cost the team on offense and on defense now.
  15. He has 1 K per 4.5 PA as an RP and 1 per 6.3 as an SP. Generally speaking your K rate goes way up as an RP.
  16. CV is not a starter quality major league pitcher so I wouldnt' expect to try him again. He doesn't have good stuff (low K/9), he doesn't have good control (high BB/9), he doesn't have a significant groundball pitch (high FB%). He has the worst skillset you can have as a pitcher in baseball and that is not what you want from a SP. Other than an LOB%/BABIP blip the last few games he has been very successful overall in his bullpen role, I'd think it is best to keep him in it.
  17. Counsell is wearing down so I certainly think he should be sitting a couple times a week so Gamel can play more often. Overall I don't much like how Macha has handled the lineup the last month or so.
  18. Hope some nobody(Burns I guess) gets in a groove and pitches like Randy Wells for us.
  19. Gallardo is either in the top 20 or somehow completely missed the list, my guess is top 20. He didn't make the 16-20 list so now my guess is they left him out of the top 50 which seems just utterly silly. There is no way we would trade Gallardo for say Jered Weaver or Josh Beckett (signed through 2010) as an example.
  20. I wouldn't read anything into it. Every player in baseball throws in a 'I hope I can stay healthy' comment whenever they discuss their future. I doubt Pujols really means anything by it.
  21. It won't surprise me even a little bit if Parra out performs Pedro from here on out so hard for me to be too upset by this. Lets be realistic for a moment, whatever we do for pitching it has to be better than Parra. We aren't going to replace Suppan, Gallardo, Looper or Bush. That is why I don't want to trade prospects for someone like Doug Davis. Pedro would have been a nice addition simply because we could have used the depth more than anything.
  22. Longoria hasn't done enough for me to put him #1. I mean he is a nice player overall but he hasn't even posted a .900 OPS yet. Probably comes down to service time which I don't know the values for by heart though. I would think Gallardo needs to make the top 30 given some of the other names I've seen.
  23. Ok I should have said that better, guys with more service time left than Braun. Fielder is a great example of a very young player who is going to lose value in this because he came up so young.
  24. I'd bet more young guys get put over him. Guys like Kershaw, Hansen, Votto etc.
  25. Yeah I wouldn't want Cain for Fielder at all, Cain's ERA this year is a mirage, he hasn't really changed and isn't an ace. He has logged a lot of innings at a young age as well and I'd be more worried about him falling off than Fielder at this point.
