  1. Certainly would be more fun to see some 7-3 games occassionally instead 3-2 in 10 innings every night.
  2. Well if they only choose 1 I'd much rather see Turnbow gone than McClung. At least McClung seems to be able to limit the damage some so far this year. Turnbow is just terrible.
  3. Lets hope Gwynn finds a hole with a bloop single or weak grounder or even a weak grounder to hanley and let him throw it in the dugout.
  4. Maybe Uggla will knock one out here and we can just dump turnbow on Monday so we don't spend a 3rd year in a row watching him be useless.
  5. Yeah turnbow, must be the ball and not that you can't throw it for strikes...
  6. So Helms is playing because Jacobs got hurt, they don't have very good options for 1B right now and Helms kills lefties but stinks vs righties. You have a young LHP on the mound who is obviously tiring. Just seemed like that pitching change came one batter too late.
  7. I really don't understand leaving Parra out there for Helms but hopefully it works out.
  8. Parra makes it through 5! Though his pitch count is 86 pitches so doubt he makes it more than 1 more inning.
  9. They certainly hit the ball hard enough to score more than 1 run, sometimes hard hit balls don't find holes.
  10. Doug Davis 2006 - 6.8 K/G, 4.4 BB/G, 68.1% LOB, 44.1% GB, 5.22 RA, 4.64 FIP 2007 - 6.5 K/G, 4.3 BB/G, 74.9% LOB, 47% GB, 4.67 RA, 4.66 FIP Cladio Vargas 2006 - 6.4 K/G, 2.7 BB/G, 69.5% LOB, 39.9% GB, 5.42 RA, 4.88 FIP 2007 - 6.9 K/G, 3.5 BB/G, 73% LOB, 33.8% GB, 5.36 RA, 5.09 FIP Davis was about exactly the same as Vargas in 2006. In 2007 they were the same for most of the year with Vargas' miserable August and the Brewers horrible defense being the major difference. The one thing Davis has going for him over Vargas is the groundballs like I said. I would fully expect both of them to have roughly 5.0-5.5 RA per game which is a #5 quality starter. Vargas actually was young enough to still have a little upside while Davis had none at that point in the trade. . Doug Davis is no longer the player we saw in 2004/2005, his peripherals have taken a significant hit and there is no reason to expect him to have a good ERA. He had a bit of luck last year to keep his ERA as low as it was but he just isn't a very good pitcher anymore.
  11. Only reason Hall started to hit was 4 lefties in a row though. Hall has been just horrible this year against righties. I have no problems at all with him getting a day off.
  12. Those stats are just mind boggling seeing just how much of a different a 1-0 count is than an 0-1 league wide. The 0-0 splits seem to fall right in the middle though. If you swing at that first pitch and miss or foul it off you just put yourself in a nasty hole. If you hit it you get decent results. If you don't swing at it and it is a ball you are way ahead. Pretty much what you would expect just the values were more varied than I expected. I'm not a huge fan of taking the 1st pitch just to take it and I do think some of the Brewer hitters need to swing at it more than they do but they obviously have to make sure it is a good pitch if they are going to swing.
  13. He was good in 2006... Estrada had good and bad years before we got him, there were reasons to expect him to be an above average offensive C. Before he became a Brewer his only bad offensive season was one where he played half the year injured . I don't see how hard that is to believe any of that as the stats completely back it up. The organization had a black hole at the position and there wasn't much in the way of FA. I still don't think Davis is much better than Vargas so it really comes down to Eveland. Vargas is a younger version of Davis who gives up a few more flyballs pretty much. I think getting traded twice probably gave Eveland the kick in the butt he needed to get his life in order and become a real pitcher. I just don't think he'd have done it as a Brewer. Krynzel is Tony Gwynn Jr pretty much, some useless 5th OF type. The trade easily could have gone either way in my opinion.
  14. Yeah this 14 pitchers thing has to come to an end. I was ok with it for a day or two because the bullpen was so gassed but it is just killing us now.
  15. Pretty sure you mean otherwise Rabelo was dead at the plate.
  16. Yeah we had the leadoff hitter on in 8 of 10 innings and scored 0 runs. Pretty hard to blame anyone but the offense for this one.
  17. All I can say is I think the team as a whole is in a cold stretch and we are still over .500. When we got cold last year it was a disaster. Once we get hot this team is going to look realy good.
  18. This is really a stretch since even at normal depth I doubt we get the double play there.
  19. The team is struggling but still playing over .500, it sucks but I can't lose too much sleep over it.
  20. hardy since the all star break of his rookie year (I refuse to count that first half of stats since they don't really tell us anything about him imo). 280 games, 1027 AB. .272/.325/.443/.768. 25.68 AB/HR Not an amazing hitter by any means but not useless either. If he can see marginal gains with age he can grow into a decent hitter.
  21. I'd much rather have Suppan than Davis and I say that as someone who doesn't really think Suppan is a good pitcher.
  22. Davis wasn't good last year, he had a good ERA. very big difference. Eveland is a case where I don't think he would have ever done it as a Brewer, he needed a change of scenery to give him a kick in the butt. Davis would have had an ERA over 5 as a Brewer last year no doubt in my mind, his peripherals were terrible, add in our defense and no way he keeps it under 5. That trade was a bunch of crap for a bunch of other crap.
  23. This baffles me since Hardy was better than Hall last year and has been better so far this year. I mean sure you want to complain about Hardy's slow start that is fine but seems like an odd time to say he is somehow worse than Hall.
  24. Barry Bonds is not very fast anymore but if he played every single day in the middle of the yankees lineup he would probably lead the majors in runs. Corey Patterson is very fast but he is such a poor hitter he struggles to break 80 runs with full time play. Runs and Speed are not directly related.
