  1. I think the Cameron signing was probably the best in baseball this year, the impact from the defensive switch is going to be larger than any other FA signing. Yeah it would be great if was left handed but all the LH options were worse than the RH option by far. I mean getting Kenny Lofton just because he is left handed would have been a terrible move because he stinks defensively now and his hitting is going down the tubes fast (he was all BABIP last year).
  2. ERA is a team stat and 11 games is still a ridiculously small sample to try to judge a pitcher by. If you are talking about how good the pitchers are the post season stats mean very little to me unless one player was just terrible and that isn't the case.
  3. The only two pitchers currently in baseball that can be argued over Santana are Peavy and Webb. Beckett probably isn't even in the top 5 disucssion.
  4. Yes, we stink vs righties just like last year. At home we'll do ok against the mediocre ones, on the road we'll lose a lot of games to them. In my fantasy leagues I'll pitch or ditch righty starters against us on the road, that means I'll play guys who normally should not get a start in most situations against us because of how weak the offense is. It will get a little better if Fielder starts hitting (not sure how well he'll hit with Hall behind him, he needs Braun or at least Hart behind him).
  5. Nope that was league wide for all pitchers. The 6th inning is a combination of starters going the 3rd time through the order and your crappy RPs usually so doesn't surprise me too much that it is the worst one.
  6. It is worth more against him for sure, however the 1st inning is also the highest scoring inning on average in the game so I just cringe at playing small ball in that one. A lot of times pitchers take an inning to get in their groove, even Santana. Santana has an .745 career OPS against in the 1st inning which is the highest of any inning 1-8 and is significantly worse than his career .644 against overall. Last year all of baseball had an .790 OPS against in the 1st inning compared to an .758 overall, the worst inning overall is the 6th with an .801.
  7. I think the idea was more that there are X number of games that you were going to lose almost no matter what, the pitching matchups etc don't really matter much. We are going to have games where some scrub dominates us and Sheets gives up 6 runs and we get the loss and that is part of the losing X, we'll have games where Bush dominates and we score 10 runs and that is part of the winning X. The games that matter are the ones that come down to 1 or 2 AB/plays. The games that even a small change to what happened can alter who wins the game. Those are the middle X that make the most difference. In the NFL that is like 75% of the games now it seems, just 1 play going the other way turns a loss into a win. .
  8. Definitely Braun though I think both will be ok. Braun seemed to be making the adjustment in the minors with his plate discipline so I think he'll eventually make it in the majors.
  9. small ball only makes sense when the scoring environment on both sides will be small. Santana vs Sheets it makes some sense. Perez vs Suppan it doesn't make any. I never think it is a very good idea to bunt in the first inning though, pitchers struggle a lot of the time in the first and you have to pounce on that when it happens.
  10. So they switched them and nothing changed, Braun still swung at everything and Fielder still didn't get a HR. When they finally do break out of the slumps can we avoid saying it had anything to do with batting 3rd vs 4th because it really doesn't. They aren't going to groove fastballs to Braun because Fielder is behind him, they'll still nibble as long as he swings and Fielder isn't going to somehow get better because the quality of hitter behind him isn't as high (Hall vs Braun).
  11. Marquis was absolutely terrible, the fact he somehow only gave up 2 runs doesn't change that. He pitched as poorly as Suppan did.

  14. Brewers win back to back road series against teams that many picked to go to the world series this year!
  15. I can only imagine Riske is unavailable because he went 2 IP on Friday. I stand corrected, Riske just got up. This is painful to watch, Yost you better get lucky here.
  16. Mediocre hitting C have killed us all year, I don't like this.
  17. Yeah that is why I supported the change to start the year. Braun doesn't need the protection as much as Fielder does because they'll go after Braun with junk off the corners no matter what since he swings at everything. I don't think it is going to matter a ton either way though, it isn't like we are the 2006 Giants with nobody batting behind Fielder. They will IBB him sometimes but it won't be out of control.
  18. He flailed away at a bad pitch for a K in the 1st and popped out with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, so you saw the better part of his game.
  19. Games like this emphasize how important our improved bullpen depth is. Last year we'd have Spurling and Aquino out for these innings and nobody that could go more than 1 IP so the entire bullpen would be shot(if we didn't have an off day the next day that is). Pirates have scored 5 runs on Cueto in 6 IP, he is human! Prince is more likely to be IBB with Braun ahead of him than behind him.
  20. With a pretty rested bullpen and a day off tomorrow I don't see why Suppan is still pitching. I'm not against bringing him out to start the inning but he needs to be out before facing wright.
  21. Our D has statistically been above average so far this year, so can't blame the defense just yet.
  22. That didn't work, switch Fielder and Braun back I guess
  23. They will be better, it just won't be obvious. Fielder will get his AVG/OBP up higher and do better with situational hitting and will play better in the field. He will have a better year than last year at some point but it just might not be more HRs.
  24. I'm sure Dempster won't keep his .130 BABIP against all year.
  25. It means that we aren't going to find a #1 calibre arm for $5M a year so we are going to have to settle for someone like Bush or Suppan instead. Seemed pretty clear.
