  1. Fly balls tend to lead to more runs than ground balls but its different for different types of players. On average for 2006 a Line drive was worth 0.391 runs, an outfield fly was worth 0.192 runs. A groundball was worth 0.045 runs and an infield fly was worth -0.088 runs. What I'm assuming he means is we are hitting too many flyball outs and not enough line drives, unless you are a speedy type ground balls are generally always bad.
  2. Cubs had a similar thread earlier in the year and I posted on it. They seemed to be pretty level headed about it though I said that Sheets was as good as Zambrano and that Prince wasn't much behind Lee.
  3. We have seen Hardy struggle after missing an entire season, seen him post an .800 OPS for half a year, then seen him post a .750 OPS for a month, struggle for a week and miss a season. We really don't know anything about Hardy even with this season included, his stats have just been all over the place with injuries in the middle.
  4. And many Cubs have played out of their minds in the past month during their hot streak too. You can't pick and choose stats when comparing things. I don't expect Fontenot to post an .872 OPS on the year, my money is thats down to .750 by the end of the season. Its as inflated as Hardy's for sure.
  5. That starting rotation is due for a collapse too, Marquis is starting to stink and I honestly wouldn't put him in our rotation over any of our guys, Hill has been shaky lately. Lilly is still pitching a little over his head and Marshal well I don't know what to think of him.
  6. I disagree quite a bit with your original comparison. I think the two teams are pretty similar in talent with the Brewers having more long term upside. The situational hitting thing is just a matter of when you watch them, earlier in the year the Brewers were getting tons of 2 out hits and winning a lot of games, the Cubs couldnt' buy one. Now the opposite is holding true. Braun has basically the same OPS with runners on and with RISP as he does with nobody on, you just remember the times he doesn't get that RBI. As for Hart, he certainly has more upside than DeRosa who is an average player, I dunno who will end up better this year though.
  7. I wouldn't say I hate him but I consider Jose Reyes to be the most overhyped SS in NY and that is saying a lot. He is at best the 3rd best SS in the NL but he is hyped as the best player in baseball.
  8. now that is a vent I can get behind.
  9. Does your son happen to be Balthazar Getty?
  10. Or it could be his way of making Cubs fans suffer as they take the divisional lead just to drop it on the last day of the season~. I think the Cubs and Brewers are pretty even ball teams so its just going to come down to which team gets hot at the end of the year, I hope its us. Regardless I'd rather have our roster going into the next 5 years than theirs so I'm good with it. Oh yeah to fit a rant in here, we lost 2 games to clutch hits by Keppinger, blech.
  11. Again I'm not talking about this thread, the game thread tonight was about the most negative thing I've ever seen. Consider this my vent which means it should be in here. I get emotional when I watch the games too but you know its not the end of the world if we miss the playoffs and typing things like this game is over when we are down by 1 in the 4th inning is more than just being emotional, its being defeatist.
  12. Linebrink had a 2.55 ERA and .670 OPS against 3 games ago so unless he's hurt I'd imagine all his stats are thrown off by a bad stretch of a few games. His last 3 games have been a 23.63 ERA, 1.375 OPS against and have completely derailed his season stats.
  13. I'm not talking about just in this thread, I"m venting about how this is going on in every single thread on the site, especially the game threads. See my post in the silver lining thread, its completely normal for a .550 team to play up to 2/3rds of their season at a .500 pace. Even a .600 team can play up to half of its season at a .500 pace. Being a good team is generally playing .500 most of the season and having one or two hot streaks.
  14. spiff.rit.edu/richmond/ba...reaks.html If you look at the graph called Streaks of consecutive games with .500 record you'll notice that the Brewers this season are not abnormal at all. Assuming the team has the talent of a .550 winning percentage team you could expect between 60-140 games of .500 play at some point in the season. It is not abnormal at all to have prolonged streaks of .500 play even for a good team. For a .600 winning percentage team you could expect between 35-85 games of .500 play in the middle of the season somewhere. Even a really good .600 team is going to play up to half a season of .500 ball. The division is going to come down to who gets hot in the last two months and just because the Cubs are hot now and we aren't doesn't mean things are lost.
  15. Posters can have whatever opinion they want, I'd just ask that they tone down the negativity a bit. When the Brewers gain a game on the Cubs there is barely any attention drawn to it but every time the Brewers lose you have people coming out of the woodwork talking about how the team is doomed. You know what, I don't expect the Brewers to win the division, I think the young guys need time to grow before it happens, but I'm not posting like a giddy schoolgirl after every loss talking about how few games the cubs are behind us. Those kinds of posts just bring the whole forum down. I'm sitting back, enjoying the ride and hoping that we can squeek out a playoff series, the team is talented enough to get there for sure if things bounce our way, I just don't take it as a given that they will or won't.
  16. In the last 30 games the Cubs are 21-9, Brewers are 16-14 (not including today). The only other team better than the Brewers in the NL have been the Mets at 19-11. Not that it means the Cubs are the best team in baseball, they are winning a lot of close games and everything is bouncing their way (I know I've been watching all of their games). The Cubs could easily play sub .500 ball the rest of the way though, the last 30 games do not define a team. It just gets very old seeing you post this same thing every single time we lose, you are almost giddy that they are finally ready to pass us to prove you right.
  17. All 4 of these guys have had more time off than Braun or Fielder, so not sure what the point of your post was. Dunn has been out 5 games this year, Hatteburg a lot of games, Griffey 12 games and Phillips 4 games.
  18. and you'll finally be happy, 2 months after you started posting this all the time we are down to a 1.5 game lead.
  19. You would have to think we have the advantage here comparing bullpens on the season but somehow I don't feel good about it.
  20. So frustrating, gaah. We simply cannot get a big hit on the road.
  21. Griffey sat out July 15th and July 20th. If you are going to post crap like that at least come up with some facts first. We get it, you don't think our players should ever rest, can we just drop it now?
  22. pretty much a repeat of yesterday, both teams get bases loaded, they get a hit we get an out and we are behind.
  23. These long AB's never seem to work out well for the pitcher, lets hope this is the exception. Oh oh, the Maddux kiss of death is coming!
  24. Young players haven't been through a full major league season before. They tend to wear down their first season because of this. I find it absolutely absurd that you would post something like this when Fielder takes off his 3rd day of the season. He's 17th in the NL in plate apperances with almost everyone ahead of him being a #1 or #2 hitter. That is not having "too much time off". Braun had only sat 1 game since he came up too. This is not too much time off. Guys like Hardy and Hart are sitting more often because they aren't playing well more than anything.
  25. Players need to rest at some point...
