  1. You could also blame Graffanino for his horrible 1 pitch popout pinch hit with runners on and 1 out. You can pretty much blame everyone except Capuano, Turnbow, Wise and Braun for last night.
  2. Braun is the only guy on the team that made Harang throw strikes. Jenkins swung at a ball that would have hit him if he didn't swing, then swung at a high outside fastball and then at a ball in the dirt. The team in general swung at everything which made it very easy on Harang. I like Harang but that game is on the Brewers stinking more than on him being a 6'7" flamethrowing freak of nature in my book.
  3. I'd be fine with Yost using Balfour in non important situations to see what he has. However Yost has now twice thrown away games by putting him in and seeing what he can do when the game is on the line.
  4. .237/.306/.418/.724 Those are some pretty ugly stats for a player, they are even worse considering thats the Brewers team batting line for this month. We need to start hitting the ball. Braun is .338/.393/.714/1.107 I didn't take the time to do the math but if you take Braun away from this team I'm pretty sure the rest of the players have under a .300 OBP and might have under a .700 OPS.
  5. Pence never had a real chance at it anyway, Braun has just been a lot better and is on a better team. I'd be more worried about someone like Lincecum getting hot and winning it.
  6. I dunno how on he is, the Brewers are swinging at a ton of junk pitches instead of taking them. The Brewers stink vs righties, the Reds stink vs lefties, this game is probably gonna be won off one teams bullpen even if it takes 10+ innings to get to them!
  7. The top teams in the AL are better than the top teams in the NL, the rest of the leagues are even. Pretty much Boston, Detroit and the Angels dominated interleague and the other slightly favored the NL overall. If I had to break teams down into 5 tiers of elite, good, average, bad, terrible the Mets would be the only NL team that has a chance to be in the elite tier while there are 3-4 AL teams that could be, that would be the major difference in the two leagues.
  8. Costas is great, no I dont' always agree with him but he generally backs up his opinions with reason. Its guys that just babble nonsense like Joe Morgan that bug me.
  9. The Twins might be a playoff team in the NL Central, it would probably be close. They still aren't a lot better than the Brewers or Cubs though, they are definitely a tier 2 team.
  10. While I think Hardy makes an ok #2 I'd much rather see Weeks and Hart #1 and #2.
  11. Ahh thats right, I'm thinking of WARP.
  12. Studies have been done that showed that the first year a catcher is with a team the starters ERA tend to jump up some and the second year they go back down. I'd imagine it has at least a little bit of an affect.
  13. Power isn't a negative for leading off. Basically the only reason to make Gwynn lead off is because he can't get the ball out of the infield, that doesn't make much sense to me. Weeks and Hart both project as better leadoff hitters than Gwynn in my opinion, so either one of them are perfectly fine there next year.
  14. If Hanely had played even average defense this year he'd be the #1 on that VORP list. Braun has put up the same stats as Pence in a lot fewer games, I expect him to be the front runner for ROY at the end of the year barring an injury. I highly doubt he'll get consideration for MVP though, not with the years some other players are having.
  15. X-rays on Hunter Pence's right wrist revealed no fractures. Pence left Sunday's game in the fourth inning with an injury apparently sustained sliding into second base in the first. The Astros are calling him day-to-day with a sprain, but a DL stint still might be a possibility. That came from Rotoworld though I can't link it from work. Doesn't sound too serious but should let Braun catch up a few AB's at least.
  16. Ok so two years in a row he had a good second half, for his career it certainly hasn't held true and I wouldn't expect him to suddenly pitch great just because of a 2 year trend.
  17. You are going to be disappointed then, i'd expect Suppan to sit around a 4.25-4.75 ERA at the end of the season. He isn't a second half pitcher either btw, he has a 4.68 career 1st half ERA and 4.56 career 2nd half ERA. He just happened to have a really good 2nd half last year.
  18. Jenkins just doesn't seem to have very good range and the fielding metrics tend to agree. He is slightly above average on balls in his zone but pretty bad with balls out of his zone.
  19. Thats largely because he pitched in a pitchers park with the best defense in the NL though. His K/9, BB/9 GB%, HR/FB etc has all stayed pretty much steady throughout his career. The only thing that has really jumped around are his BABIP, LOB% and ERA which are at least partially out of his control. I cannot stress enough that ERA is a faulty stat for judging pitchers, its a team stat. A 4.00 ERA pitcher for the White Sox is much better than a 4.00 ERA pitcher for STL, hitters park, AL vs NL, harder competition, defense isn't as good. You really need to dig deeper than just ERA when looking at a pitcher who has moved from one team to another.
  20. Jenkins career line against righties.. .290/.361/.528/.889 Dunn's career line against righties.. .251/.389/.552/.945 Jenkins is past his peak already, Dunn should just be hitting his. Dunn is a horrible fielder but Jenkins has been below average this year too. Dunn also hits lefties better than Jenkins so he can play every day. I don't really see how you can say Dunn isn't an upgrade.
  21. Bush is down to a 4.83 ERA now and his stats pretty much mirror last years other than an inflated BABIP. Suppan has a career 1.42 WHIP so I don't think his WHIP is really off the charts compared to normal, his FIP this year is actually better than it has been in the past 3 years, he's just giving up more runs. I think the main issue is you are trying to judge pitchers by ERA which isn't a very good way to judge them. ERA is a fine stat when you are talking about 500 IP but when you are looking at 120 IP chunks of data its just all over the place. All of our pitchers are posting about the K/9, BB/9 etc that you'd expect of them. Here is a nice little article about the Brewers and if they are getting lucky etc. www.hardballtimes.com/mai...e-brewers/
  22. Its been a while since Weeks hit a HR...
  23. Suppan is basically pitching like normal, Bush has just had bad luck, Capuano had an injury which probably hurt his stats significantly. Sheets is having a great season. Vargas has been pretty horrible but somehow always gets the W anyway. The bullpen has been way better than expected. I guess I fail to see how the pitching is underperforming overall.
  24. I dunno, every little bloop has fallen in for the Giants this series, I'll be happy when we are done with them.
  25. Hunter Pence left the Astros game with an injured wrist, not sure how serious it is yet.
