  1. Gwynn probably would have already weakly grounded out to an infielder by now as a pinch hitter.
  2. Yeah I'm in shock that he is using Cordero here, its like a whole new manager!
  3. Vargas struggles to go 5.1 IP most days so I have to assume he'll end up in the pen if Yo stays a starter.
  4. Bush is a better starter than Vargas so hopefully this doesn't mean Yost is moving him to the bullpen because I'll have lost a lot of faith in him if it does.
  5. Since I'm the only one who posted numbers I assume you were talking to me with the 3.50 ERA comment. I agree there is no way to know for sure which is why I said looks like he has the stuff to be a 3.50-4.00 ERA guy instead of flat out claiming he is a 3.50 ERA guy. Both Yo and CV look like they could be a tier better than our 4ish ERA guys if given a shot to prove themselves, doesn't mean they automatically will be better.
  6. If Sheets doesn't make it at this point its criminal. He is easily one of the best SP's statistically and he has a history to go with it.
  7. Bush has two problems with his game, one is that he has problems getting outs in the first inning his pitches and the other is that he struggles out of the stretch. He could easily be the worst option on the entire team for a setup man.
  8. mlb.com lists him with just a CS. Sheets down to a 3.03 ERA, if he gets another scoreless inning it might slip under 3. His pitch count is pretty bad so I don't think he'll go much more than that.
  9. Ryan Braun (2007) - .321/.364/.575/.940 Wes Helms (2007) - .247/.306/.319/.625 We were right about Braun being able to replace Helms too! I don't have the numbers in front of me but I bet our LF's have been close to Lee in overall production this season, not so sure he'd have been a huge upgrade given how Jenkins has hit in his half of the platoon.
  10. I much preferred Sheets never walking anybody.
  11. Jennings is a good pitcher, he was one of my bigger sleepers going into this season but of course he got hurt which messed things up.
  12. Ok so we are 5th out of 14 teams then instead of 10th out of 30 and only 1 team in the NL is significantly better than ours and thats the Padres. There really isn't much difference between AL and NL bullpens. The average AL RP is a 4.20, the average NL RP is a 3.99.
  13. Lidge is on the DL with a strained oblique and won't be back until after the all-star break.
  14. Our bullpen really takes a lot of blame but we are 10th in MLB with a 3.61 ERA and only the Padres and Red Sox are significantly better as the 3rd best ERA is 3.43. Only four bullpens have BB'd fewer than we have, only six have K'd more than we have. Nine have given up fewer HR's than we have. Cordero - 2.23 CV - 2.96 Wise - 3.16 Shouse - 3.38 Spurling - 3.47 Turnbow 4.01 Capellan 4.09 Thats a better bullpen than we had last year thats for sure.
  15. To be honest I bet Gallardo is the 2nd or 3rd best starter on the team with CV being in the mix as well. Capuano is a 4 ERA guy, Suppan is a 4-4.50 ERA guy, Bush is a 4.50ish ERA guy and Vargas is a 4.50-5.00 ERA guy. Both CV and Yo look like they have the stuff to be in that 3.50-4.00 ERA range of a #2/#3 starter with Yo maybe able to put #1 stats.
  16. I would think Wise is too fragile for the role since he can't seem to pitch every other day. That pretty much leaves CV and Turnbow as our options. I dont' think we'll be able to trade for anyone that is a huge upgrade over those two, not unless we give up a real prospect in the deal.
  17. Bush with a 3.23 ERA, .655 OPS against in his past 5 starts. Most importantly he's gone 5+ IP in 14 of 15 starts, 6+ in 10 of 15, 7+ in 5 of 14 for an average of 6.2 IP per start. Vargas has gone 4.71 ERA, .880 OPS against in his past 5 starts. He's gone 5+ IP in 11 of 13 starts, 6+ in 6 of 13 and 7+ in 0 of 13 starts for an average of 5.3 IP per start. If Gallardo stays up its pretty much a no brainer who goes to the bullpen in my book.
  18. That would put him higher than many setup guys and higher than some closers.
  19. Hard for me to complain about the days off. Jenkins doesn't hit lefties, Estrada was a normal C day off. Hardy is hurt. Fielder doesnt' get a break and hasn't been swinging the bat that great lately. Also hard for me to complain about the bullpen other than not using CV which confused me. The real problem is we scored 3 runs in 11 IP off of one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.
  20. I have to imagine he was considered unavailable because it doesn't make any sense otherwise. As to why he would be unavailable I dunno.
  21. Mench heard me bad mouth him apparently.
  22. Luckily Miller's arm is every bit as weak as Estrada's now so no matter who we play they steal at will.
  23. Wonder if Hardy comes in at SS or if Graffy moves over with Fielder at 1B.
  24. Good job Hart! Now fielder just needs a pinch hit HR and we are out of here.
