  1. I agree, if Yost were my employee I'd fire him for that level of gross incompetence. Most of the season I think the bullpen complaints have been out of hand but that was probably the single worst management I've seen of a starting pitcher in my lifetime. He left him at minimum 2 batters too long and most likely 4 batters too long.
  2. Using ERA to judge a pitcher over a months time is completely useless. Obviously something is wrong though since he was on the DL, I wouldn't really judge him until he has a good month long stretch of being healthy. Today is all on Yost though, that was probably the worst managing I've seen in my 25 years of watching baseball.
  3. Howry comes in and gives up 4 singles giving the Pirates a 3 run lead now and Pinella leaves him in for at least another batter. Did someone forget to tell these managers that the next 3 days are off days?
  4. If this were a last place team I'd be calling for them to fire Yost after that, it was ridiculous. You can sort of defend him leaving Capuano out there after the HR, if you really want to be an apologist leaving him after the 2nd walk is fine but after the 3rd walk even my 6 year old would have known to take the pitcher out at that point. Don't think I've ever been as mad about a manager as I am right now.
  5. I've been pretty forgiving of Yost's bullpen management this season since there is so much behind who gets used and doesn't that we just don't know about. This inning was a disaster though, no excuse at all for Capuano to be out there that long.
  6. Probably want to add Hardy to that list since May 18th he is hitting .237, .310 OBP, .368 SLG, .678 OPS in 38 games. That is really killing the team out of the 2 hole. Just gotta hope that someone else picks up the slack when a couple guys are scuffling.
  7. Cubs up 1-0 but Zambrano not looking very good. He's thrown more balls than strikes and is over 50 pitches with 1 out in the 3rd.
  8. Not working for me either so I'm listening to the Nats feed which isn't very good.
  9. If people actually 'got it' we wouldn't have to say it all the time. A 3-4 sample of games is completely useless when judging a team, we could lose 4 games to the worst team in baseball and it wouldn't mean a thing. We could sweep the Red Sox 4 games and it really wouldn't mean anything either. Thats why they play 162 games and why the best teams don't go to the world series every year.
  10. This is taken a bit out of context, he is only talking about the last couple games in this quote not the entire season. He is right though, Weeks did hit a few hard ground balls right at guys in the past few days.
  11. At least two seasons if you are talking about his ERA. His K/9, BB/9, HR/FB, GB% are right in line with the past three years so he's basically pitching the same as he always does. His BABIP is a little high but that could easily be from going to an above average defensive team to a below average one. ERA is just a terrible stat to look at for less than 2-3 years worth of data.
  12. Where did you hear this? Also Otsuka was taken out of the game with some injury earlier this week (he's on my fantasy team) so I'm sure that didn't help his trade status.
  13. Suppan wasn't signed for his ERA, he was signed for his health, so I fail to see what the point is. Nobody thought he'd have an elite ERA.
  14. The all star break can't come too soon for Weeks.
  15. back to back, I love it as does my fantasy team!
  16. Gwynn is a good CF but in the long term I doubt he's much better than Hall in the field. Hall is learning on the job but he's made a lot of amazing plays, has displayed great range. He just needs to learn where to throw the ball and to get a little better jump on the ball. Hall is already better than Clark, Gross and Podsednick in CF and those are most of our games played out there over the past few seasons. The way I see it Gwynn is only really useful as a backup OF and pinch runner. Hart is as good in CF as he is, Gross is as good an option with the bat. What we need is a right handed hitting OF to put in the lineup against lefties and Gwynn doesn't help at all with that.
  17. Last 8 games for Bush... 45.2 IP, 4 W's, 3.15 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, .663 OPS, 6.2 IP per start.
  18. Gwynn has an .657 OPS in his major league career in 171 PA's Gwynn had an .694 OPS in his minor league career in over 1900 PA's going into this season.
  19. Hopefully Gwynn won't start on a regular basis so there will be no reason to put him at the top of the order. Hart, Hardy, Braun, Fielder, Estrada(yuck!) is the most likely top of the order now given Yost's history.
  20. There is more to it than that though, hitting is just valued more than it used to be and fielding is valued less. The importance of OBP has filtered out a lot of mediocre hitters who would have had jobs in the past. I'd be absolutely shocked if hitters weren't better now than in the past given all the technology and improved steroids! they have available to them.
  21. I don't really know what the new standards are but I do think if you took an old school pitcher and put him in todays game he wouldn't be throwing many complete games. Hitters are just way better than they used to be, they work the count more, they are stronger, they have studied the pitchers more.
  22. If every pitcher on the team went 6 IP with 3 ER every single game for us we'd have an average starting rotation. If the worst game any pitcher ever had was 6 IP with 3 ER we'd have a great rotation. A 4.50 ERA is not sexy but 6 IP and 3 ER kept your team in the game without killing the bullpen and is a good job by the starter.
  23. The only difference is Lofton sometimes gets the ball past the infielders...
  24. I expected 2 wins, we got 1 win, it really is not the end of the world. This team will be lucky to go .500 on the road, they aren't much better than a .500 team and they aren't good on the road. The key is just not to get swept and to win a road series here and there. Now if you seriously expected the team to win 3 games on the road your expectations were at fault. No team realistically expects to win 3 of 4 on the road against anyone, especially not in a park where they dont' generally play well.
  25. Then very few pitchers except aces are ever going to be good enough for you because I can count on two hands how many NL pitchers go 7 IP with 3 ER on a regular basis.
