  1. I think the Pirates are a bad team. They had a good short run when McCutchen was killing the ball but that will fade and they are just left with a bunch of mediocrity. The Cubs are still the big threat.
  2. Or we can take his July stats which are .333/.440/.810/1.250 Thames has been so all over the place that we just have no clue what he really is at this point. The overall numbers look great though.
  3. The Brewers were ranked #8 on the ESPN power rankings this week. I don't really care what ESPN says but I thought the bolded part of this quote was very interesting.
  4. I don't think last season Guerra was for real but I don't buy this explanation at all either. They weren't just swinging at pitches a mile out of the zone all season last season and that has been the problem so far this year. He just can't throw strikes. I'm guessing it is mechanical due to not pitching for a while and quite possibly the injury. After Gallardo hurt his knee he was never the same pitcher again. One injury can derail a pitchers season or even career. I don't think you really bring anyone up unless someone else gets hurt. You could give Wang a chance in the bullpen over one of the mid inning bums. There are 6 weeks between games starting up and September call ups. Maybe if Villar is terrible for 3 weeks you look to make a move for him but I'd assume Sogard is back by then and then you have to wait 2 or 3 weeks for him to be terrible and suddenly it is almost September. I probably just go with what we have until September.
  5. The 2018 free agent class has a lot of starting pitching in it so I imagine they will retool next year even if they don't surge this year.
  6. Gausman is a more likely target and has plenty of upside.
  7. It really depends on when you think the Brewers window actually is. If you think we have a legit playoff contending team for next year than this kind of trade makes total sense since Gray would be on the team in 2018 and 2019. You are getting 2.5 years out of him and if we aren't looking good in that 3rd year you likely can get back a good package in return for him. These kinds of players are exactly the type that are actually worth getting this season. I don't think you give up a CC or Greinke style package though. Gray just hasn't proven he is that type of pitcher over the past couple of seasons.
  8. There was no guessing to it. Their rotation is terrible and they had a really easy schedule to start the season. This was a really easy prediction, not a guess. They are a team that is going to have to outslug people which is really hard to do and be a 90+ win team. They will settle in somewhere between 80 and like 88 wins most likely.
  9. I wasn't really sure where to put this but the Cubs are the first team to win a World Series and not have a single returning player in the all star game the following season. The Cubs lone all star is Wade Davis.
  10. Given the White Sox history they are going to want full price for Quintana even with his bad season. I wouldn't want to pay what it is going to take. Gray makes a more interesting target and should be much cheaper considering he was bad last year and hurt part of this year. We have to hope the Twins keep losing so Santana goes on the market. I don't want Santana but another name available lowers the price on everyone a little.
  11. Given how messed up his timing has been at times this season I'm glad he isn't in it.
  12. The thing is, you were wrong 17 days ago too. That Rockies rotation is terrible, there was no reason to think it wouldn't fall off. They had also beat up on the Padres and Giants a lot early. The Rockies tend to fade most seasons because it is just a tough place to play and their players wear down. At no point this season did I think the wild card was out of play.
  13. I think we trade less and get Sonny Gray. Oakland seems to like to trade mid season more than most teams so I expect it is easier to get a deal done. The White Sox tend to hold out a lot more so I think Quintana goes for way more than he should. Gray, Nelson, Anderson, Davies, Garza
  14. I wouldn't say they have a lot of work to do, although they obviously will need to continually re-build their pitching staff. Their position player group is set up extremely well for the next 5 years. They have 2 clearly above average positional players and Contreras most likely makes 3. Russell hasn't shown much with the bat and his defense has slipped this year. Schwarber is a disaster and needs to be in the AL, Baez is toosly but makes a lot of dumb mistakes and isn't much of a hitter. Happ may join those ranks to make 4, too early to tell. They have nothing in the way of young pitching and are going to have to pray young guys get it really fast or keep cycling in free agents. There is no dynasty here, just a good team. If you had to rate teams with the top 25 and under talent in baseball I wouldn't put the Cubs at the top of the list.
  15. I didn't read this whole thread but I think this is new info, hard to tell on the internet~. http://nesn.com/2017/07/mlb-rumors-brewers-to-be-deadline-buyers-eyeing-sonny-gray-jose-quintana/ I'm ok with someone like Gray or Quintana since they each have 2+ years left before free agency so can help with the rebuild. Please no rental starters though.
  16. He isn't keeping an .800 OPS unless he starts walking a lot more. Right now he profiles as a below average hitter. He is young so there is time for that to change but nothing suggests hitting will be an asset with him yet.
  17. Even if the cubs take off, we are 3 games out of the wild card and the Rockies are not a very good team. There are two paths to a playoff.
  18. Yeah I'm going to the game Monday too and I live out of state at this point so it will be the only game at Miller park i see all year. Don't want to see Espino pitch. I did get to see the one game they won at Atlanta at least.
  19. A team like this which is probably lucky to be over .500 can't go through stretches like this against a series of awful teams. This is where they have to luck into the playoffs. We were always going to be a team in an awkward spot come trade deadline but these types of games make me believe we should straight up sell and not worry if it means we miss a playoff by a game. This team really isn't good enough to go past the first round of the playoffs and I would hate to see us buy because we hung around until late July just to see us completely tank the rest of the way. We need to be 4 or 5 games up in 1st place in the division and in striking distance of the wild card to be anything but a seller. I just don't see it happening.
  20. I am at the point where I hope we are just straight up sellers at this point. We had a decent chance to push 4 or 5 games ahead of the Cubs and make a case for something more here but we have played so poorly against weak competition the past couple of weeks that it is just done.
  21. the issue is the pitchers don't get the reps they need to hit competently so they are doing something they aren't really trained at and using muscles they don't normally use. It is insane that the NL hasn't moved to the DH. It causes dozens of injuries every year and puts the AL at a distinct advantage.
  22. And the stupid NL rules costs us another pitcher. Hopefully it isn't too long.
  23. The wind blowing out is making him walk everyone? That has been the real problem is the walks. If he just gave up a few HRs that is completely different. Of course that park hurts some but he has had success in it in the past and he has never been this good on the road before. Not to mention most of the PCL is hitter friendly, not just that park. There is almost certainly some sequencing at play here as well. I can't believe you guys are nitpicking this.
  24. As expected when your replacement is batting .350 Not to mention the fact he didn't run on that pinch hit last night. Inexcusable.
