  1. He can't survive striking out almost 40% of the time. I was hoping he would build on last year and at least get it down to like 30 or 31% but it just isn't getting better.
  2. This year was always just a building year for me. Build up the guys we have in value to sell them off because most of them are place holders. Unfortunately Villar has stunk, Braun has been injured and Broxton hasn't developed at all as they were the clearest sells for me. Santana and Arcia have shown some progress so they are the clear two to start building around for me. Next year I see us breaking in a couple young guys. 2019 we start making decisions to be contenders either that year or in 2020. Most of the franchises real growth is still happening in the minor leagues and is a good 2-4 years away. So any deal they make right now should be focused on 2019 at the earliest and probably 2020-2022 being realitic. That is why trading for Quintana would have been a bad move, especially considering the price tag. Stearns might only be 30 but he absolutely did the right thing for the team by not outbidding the Cubs. Quintana is controllable 3 more years but by the final year he is likely going to be fading and it is the first one where we really likely will compete. The Cubs have gone the path of going all in during Rizzo/Bryant's peak and that makes total sense for them. We have to hope our peak matches the Cubs fade somewhere around 2020-2022 most likely. Stearns approach seems to be to build for consistent good teams and to do that you can't be completely emptying your prospects the way the Cubs did. They have a little more leeway since they can just throw money at problems so that model works a bit better for them than it would for us.
  3. lol that's funny. No they don't. Brewers have 1 more loss than the Cubs. edit: please don't use that word. It got past the cuss filter but it's not allowed. Thanks. This is just silly. Wins matter just as much as losses in a teams record. If one team is 25 and 20 and misses like 10 games to rainouts and the other team is 36 and 19 there is no argument in the world that the team with 1 fewer loss is in a better spot.
  4. I certainly haven't been the most optimistic one lately, but pretty much all of your 29 posts are in some way related to how much we suck or how much better the Cubs are than us. We get it. Why not try addressing a few of my points rather than an ad hominem attack? He has a point, you seem to be a Cubs fan just trolling in the forums. You have posted nothing but I told you so the Cubs passed us type posts for your entire history on the forums. I don't think this Brewers team is competing in the next 2 years most likely because so much of the prospect talent is in A ball. The focus of this season should be looking at 2020 and not 2017.
  5. The CBA has changed and it has done it in a way that does not favor the prospect side of the deal.
  6. I normally wouldn't like this deal but I have no faith at all in the Yankees or Rays so the Mariners are in a much better spot than it realistically looks like they are.
  7. That is fine but you would be wrong, it is 100% without any doubt a playoff.
  8. There is almost no way Anderson is a core player imo. Unlike Nelson his peripherals don't really support the strong ERA this year and he turns 30 next season. I can see the case for Nelson at least.
  9. I think they look at trading Broxton in the off season. He is too good to just give up but not good enough to build on considering how many guys he's blocking.
  10. Martinez WAR by season for the past 3 years. 1.6, 1.8, 5 Braun's WAR by season for the past 4 years. .3, 4.4, 3.8 Martinez is a couple of years younger and has no long term contract impact. J.D. isn't better than Braun but his context is better.
  11. Not really sure you had to post basically this same exact post in every active thread.
  12. Yeah, I didn't really look into it but I remember reading something for hitters that power and discipline tend to peak a little later but everything else peaks earlier and the peak age of a hitter overall is 27 or 28 so I went with that. I think that article was from like 2003 or something so things might have changed since then. Peak was never actually about age which was the flaw with the original article. It is about years of experience. Players are coming up younger so they are peaking younger. You would think that would mean they peak longer but that hasn't been the case for whatever reason (probably steroids). It just means players are declining earlier in general.
  13. Lol oh okay because every schedule is equal I forget. For the most part a computer makes the schedule.
  14. I don't consider 27 or 28 year olds young. I consider them in the prime of their career. I will take it a step farther,28 year olds are entering their decline these days. Prime is 25-27. The game has changed and gotten much younger.
  15. Hold and hope. No reason to change the plan just because the Cubs started the year slowly.
  16. The Cubs don't have to get on a plane until August 7th, kind of a weird quirk of the schedule. That is also the date where we will really know how things look. They will have played us as well as the Diamondbacks and Nationals in that stretch. If they play well over that time frame it isn't looking good for the Brewers.
  17. I'm not sure the Brewers have anything to realistically sell. Nobody wants Braun with all the injuries. Anderson is injured. Most of the other players doing well are pieces for next year and beyond. I guess we can sell Garza but not really sure what we would get for him. I don't want them to buy at this point but it seems more like a stand pat type of situation.
  18. Nuance existing in pitching and catching is just a bad thing, you are describing why a robot ump is the way to go.
  19. Yeah I don't know how good it is for the Sox at all. I just see these names and know that the Yankees got nothing here, they traded some guys for players who won't matter. They only have 2 pitchers who can go a full season and no prospects that can, this team has no real viable path to the playoffs.
  20. I don't believe that is the reason. Teams acquiring players during their final contract year haven't been getting draft pick compensation since the prior CA agreement (4+ years ago). The current CBA made 2 changes to the qualifying offers: 1) players can only be extend a QA 1 time during their career & 2) If the QA is rejected, the team signing the player does not lose its 1st round pick & the team losing the player does not get a pick between rounds 1 & 2 of the next draft. Part of this change happened 4 years ago but part of it starts next season.. This is almost certainly the change in value. Players in the last year of their contract have dropped in value immensely. The entire reason the Royals haven't sold anyone is because the new system cripples their player value because most of their stars are in their last season. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/210125462/details-of-mlb-mlbpa-labor-agreement/ The value of a rental player is at an all time low in baseball.
  21. What a disaster for the Yankees. This will not get them in the playoffs this year and has very little value going forward.
  22. I don't think the Brewers are going to make the playoffs this year so I'd take the Wild Card just to give some of these guys a taste of the post season.
  23. The return looks light but I think it is just the market adjusting to not getting compensation picks for rentals anymore. I think we are going to see the value of half season players go down quite a bit and more and more players being traded with 1+ full season left on their contracts.
  24. He will not be a viable major league pitcher without it changing. Don't be fooled by the ERA which is meaningless over this sample, Hader has not pitched well at all. I trust every RP in the pen over him except for Scahill who shouldn't be on the team. The way he is being used I think Counsell probably agrees. I expect it to improve over time, but until it does improve he really isn't trustworthy.
  25. I'm guessing the fact he is walking almost 20% of the guys he is facing has them looking for good spots to use him. I doubt Counsell trusts him at all. Like I would have never put him in the other night with the bases loaded, that is a disaster waiting to happen.
