  1. Why is Wolf "expected" to rebound? He's in his mid 30s, pitchers don't normally rebound in their mid 30s. My guess would be based on how he pitched the last two months of the season.
  2. Honestly, neither one of them is that good. I doubt either would be the difference maker that puts the Brewers in the playoffs. I think when you start looking at Pavano and Blanton the only thing surely better about them is that they have a track record (experience). All things being equal, I guess I would rather give Capuano or Rogers a shot before spending 8-10 million on either one of Pavano or Blanton for the next two or three years. Hold out for something better than a number 4 type pitcher, and if you can't get that, take a gamble with someone on the cheap.
  3. He's not worth it. I'd actually rather have Pavano. I hate how many HR's Blanton gives up. And don't say it's because he pitched in Philly. He gave up more HR's on the road last year.
  4. They both have postseason success? Suppan had postseason success. Look at how far that got us.
  5. ESPN is garbage. What do they know? The talent is there to acquire Greinke. It's just a matter of whether or not Melvin wants to part with it. And like I said before, whomever acquires Greinke will undoubtedly have to WAY overpay for him.
  6. Essentially, The Royals are waiting for some team stupid enough to WAY overpay for Greinke. I like Greinke as a pitcher, but come on, he's been inconsistent and has only had one really good year.
  7. With the Yankees having Teixeira and the Red Sox now having Gonzalez, Fielder would make sense for the Angels. They are one of the few teams left that you would think could use him and afford him after this upcoming season. Rangers also come to mind, but probably not an option if they sign Lee. I think getting Morales as part of a deal would be key.
  8. I have to admit, I'm not thrilled with the idea of signing Carl Pavano, but comparisons to Suppan or Looper are ridiculous. Plain and simple he is and has been a better pitcher than both of them. If they can sign him to a 2-year deal, I can live with that. That might be Melvin's best option right now, because I'm definitely not on board with the "crazies" that want to give up the farm for Greinke. I'll take Pavano as a free agent any day before I take Greinke for Cain, Odorizzi, Rogers and Jeffress.
  9. According to Jon Heyman he is seeking a 5-year deal. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. http://sportsillustrated....x.html?xid=si_topstories
  10. Melvin doesn't need help from any of us to make the case he is a bad GM any stronger, he's doing just fine by himself. I don't think he's a bad GM. He has helped this organization take big strides over the past several years, and I'm sure there are any number of teams that would like to have him as their GM. That said, I think he is a little stuck in his ways and doesn't do too much "outside-the-box" thinking. He seems to overvalue veteran players (esp. pitchers), and seems shortsighted as far as always thinking he can patch the roster enough to compete now (rather than building for the future). I think he (or a new GM) should make the roster over with the intention of being very good in a couple years and hopefully for many years after that by trading veterans away and stockpiling young talent. In my opinion, Melvin is going to have alter his past modus operandi or the game may just pass him by. In today's game, middle/small market teams need to stay one step ahead of other teams always having an eye for the future.
  11. I agree they are headed in the right direction. Whereas, you look at the Brewers and there doesn't seem to be any direction. Unless treading water in a sea of mediocrity counts as a direction. Maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel in a couple of years with some young pitching coming up, but it would be nice if Melvin would start making moves with that in mind. I just don't see the Brewers making a run next year with Gallardo+garbage for a starting rotation.
  12. I think that would be a pretty dumb move on the White Sox's part. Wouldn't you rather take your chances with the younger, cheaper Hudson? After all, Hudson could conceivably out-pitch Jackson the rest of the way this year.
  13. Getting a new GM who seems to have a decent idea of a plan has helped them tremendously. You know what else helps? Sucking for two straight years and getting the top pick in the draft.
  14. According to Cot's he can block a trade to 25 teams.
  15. Robbie Ross - http://scoutingthesally.com/2010/07/game-report-robbie-ross-p-texas-rangers/
  16. I would like that deal very much.
  17. Like I said, I prefer Perez also (due to his tremendous upside), but I'm saying a deal involving Holland could also work out favorably. If Perez can't be pryed away, the Rangers still have enough talent to put together a good package for the Brewers. Although, a deal should at least involve Holland, Perez, or Scheppers.
  18. I just don't see how Holland will improve the Brewers more so than they would be without him.At least with Holland there is the potential of him being a very solid major league starter next year. Other than Gallardo, who fits that bill? Parra? Wolf? Bush? I'd take Holland over all of them. Holland probably projects as a 3, but I could easily see him sliding in behind Gallardo as a 2 for the next few years. I would have a lot more faith in Holland fulfilling that potential than say Parra.
  19. I would rather have Perez also, but in my mind that is a ridiculous statement. I would hazard that Holland is better than anybody not named Gallardo in the Brewers' rotation, and there's no reason to believe that he wouldn't be able to provide a meaningful contribution to the Brewers next year. Perez would be preferred, but in my opinion the right package of players could be built around Holland.
  20. Actually, Holland is on a rehab assignment and has pitched very well this year. Perez has struggled with command this year and has had a few "Dave Bush-like" blow-up outings. That's not saying I wouldn't love to get Perez, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Holland either.
  21. I think things have gotten less gentlemanly in recent years.
  22. I think Dunn might be a liability at 3B. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Poveda's numbers don't impress me very much. In just looking at numbers, I would go with Robbie Ross if he could be had instead. Beltre's tools are intriguing, and he's still only 20, so he's got time to develop yet. Although, I almost would rather have C Vince DiFazio as we seem to have less catching prospects than corner outfield prospects.
  24. The reason you take someone like Davis is because he's cheap for several years, and he also has potential to be a big time first base bat. Not taking him because you can get some other stopgap to step in would be shortsighted in my opinion.
  25. I wish the Brewers could get that kind of return for Fielder, but my guess is the Rangers would only part with one of those three pitchers. Getting two of them would even be an excellent return. I'm still thinking it would be something like this: Holland or Perez Davis or Moreland Ross and/or Font
