  1. Any trade with the Rays for Fielder better start with them sending us Hellickson (not Davis).
  2. If Hart kind of is equal to Davis to most, I am not sure Gomez is equal to Upton AND Moore. I think the Rays entire front office would be fired immediately after making that deal.
  3. I don't think it is far fetched to say Gomez is better defensively than anybody we have had in the last decade though I think an argument could be made for Cameron. Theres not an ounce of statistical data that suggests Gomez has played better CF for the Brewers than Cameron did. I guess that's when you know there is definitely something wrong with the statistics.
  4. If we could somehow get Hellickson in that deal, I would be ecstatic. Lee to the Rays Lawrie+? to the M's Hellickson to the Brewers
  5. DeJesus is one of the best defensive LF's in baseball. If Braun could play RF, I think trading Hart and adding DeJesus would improve the lineup/defense overall.
  6. It's about putting together a solid lineup. Some of us see Dye as a better option batting behind Fielder. And it's not just about who makes more outs (even though they are actually very similar in that regard).
  7. A quick edit here if you are not ignoring defense then why would you want Dye in RF? It is rather obvious to me that Dye is just not a RF anymore and you would need a very good defensive CF to help out in the OF with Dye's decreased range. His defense is nearly going to wipe out any of his offensive production. This is not a player the Brewers should be looking at getting right now. I just don't put that much stock into UZR. I think Dye is a below average fielder, but not as bad as UZR makes him out to be. According to UZR, Andre Ethier is the worst fielding RF in baseball. I don't buy that either. People can choose to tie themselves to one metric if they like, but I prefer to take more into consideration.
  8. Teams would rather pitcher to Dye than Cameron with Fielder on base because Dye gets out more than Cameron. It doesn't help to talk down to the audience here. The people here not only understand baseball, but they also understand very simple mathmatical concepts, something you don't seem willing to grasp. I'm not intending to talk down to the audience, and if that is what you are recommending I do, then I suggest you do the same. I understand mathematical concepts, I just find the lack of balance in discussion frustrating. I think it's premature to use any one measure to determine a player's value to his team, and there are definitely inadequacies to be found in WAR's calculations. Teams would rather pitch to Dye than Cameron if you are simply talking about OBP, but I think it goes beyond that, as in Dye is a more dangerous hitter and strikes out less. I think most managers would take more into consideration than just OBP.
  9. I'm not ignoring defense. I just don't think WAR accurately represents what a player brings to his team.
  10. I'm so tired of this WAR b.s. It means absolutely nothing to me, and I'm sure it's the same for the vast majority of GM's out there. If you understand and watch the game of baseball you know dang well Dye is a far better option batting behind Fielder than Hart or Cameron. In fact, it's not even close. Dye would at least make opposing teams think before they pitched around Fielder, and Dye would be more likely to make them pay for pitching around Fielder. But you guys go ahead and stick to your WAR like it's the gospel. If it was such a great measure you would hear baseball personnel referring to it all the time.
  11. Dye is not oft injured. He has not had less than 500 AB's since 2003. Also, despite what UZR says, he is still an adequate defender with a decent arm. It's not like he's Adam Dunn, whom many are clamoring for as a potential RF and #5 hitter for 2010. Me, I'd rather take on Dye's contract for a year, and hope the Brewers can make a run with him batting behind Fielder.
  12. Abd BA had Brad Nelson as the top prospect in our system at one time too. However, neither one has been more than a pretty good AAA hitter. Pretty good doesn't get you a starting 1B job. Clement turns 25 in a few weeks. He's pretty close to maxxed out. He'll be nothing more than a back-up type like Robert Fick. The Brewers have quality starting position players, they need to concentrate their resources on pitching. You don't have to use bogus comparisons to try to prove your point. Minor League Stats: Nelson 270 .349 .441 .789 Clement .286 .374 .497 .871 Mauer (for comparison) .332 .407 .426 .833 Almost .100 point higher OPS and .025 point higher OBP than Nelson. Better OPS than Mauer. The only reason he hasn't been catching much this year is that he had some offseason knee issues, and it's not unusual for a catching prospect to not make a major league impact until age 25 or 26.
  13. I have a hard timing buying that he's a Brad Nelson type. When he was drafted he was largely regarded as one of the best power hitters in the draft.
  14. Yeah! He had a good night! Freakin' amazin'! Strike up the Band! Here comes that huge second half! The point is ANYBODY can look at stats. If that's all it took, everyone and their brother could work in baseball as a personnel guy. GM's and other personnel guys use stats as a smaller part of their player evaluations than many of us do. They don't simply rely on past performance as being predictive of futute performance. P.S. - I hope J.J. has a huge second half. If he gets locked in he's definitely capable, but that's also his problem; with his swing I think he needs to have his timing down just right.
  15. If past performance was entirely predictive of future performance, then anybody could be a GM. Anybody can analyze stats, but obviously there is more to baseball than that. Baseball is a very dynamic and complex sport. For example, some "stat people" believe it's a foregone conclusion that Hardy is going to finish strong. Some people that look at other things might tell you otherwise.
  16. The Brewers have been playing miserably lately, but I'm not sure why people continue to discuss selling. READ IT AGAIN: The Brewers will not be selling. Stop wasting your time. Attanasio and Melvin are not giving up on the season. They want to show Milwaukee they are going to do everything they can to field a winner EVERY season. I'm not saying they are wrong or right, but you can forget about them selling.
  17. Wow... Gamel for Davis. Really? There's probably 20-25 SP's out there who we could get for Gamel that would be better than Davis.
  18. The blog just says that the Brewers are interested in them. It doesn't say anything about an offer being made.
  19. I like Peavy, but I think I'm in the minority right now, because he probably won't be able to pitch until sometime later in August. To me, if there was ever a good time to go after him, the time would be now. I think Bedard could be had. Other people are throwing around Bannister or Duchscherer as possibilities. Maybe they are not frontline starters, but they would definitely help. I also like the idea of going after Dye (he's supposedly available now) to improve our offense. Such a move would help counter the Cardinals' Holliday pick-up. I guess I would rather make 2 or 3 moves to solidify the team rather than putting all of our eggs in one basket with Halladay.
  20. I think we will get pitching. It just won't be Halladay. The Phillies have more leverage in making a deal with their young pitching.
  21. I do like the idea of clearing some salary and going after Peavy in the offseason. That would be something I can get behind. The Brewers will not be sellers before the trade deadline. Attanasion said as much himself last night during the game, so it's pretty much an exercise in futility to even talk about it.
  22. This ridiculous attitude of everyone assuming that just because we want Halladay that we can get Halladay is just crazy. First off, Halladay has to want to come here. The Brewers are a .500 team right now. Do you think that intrigues him as much as some other teams? Also Toronto wants young frontline major league ready pitching, which the Brewers are very much lacking in. If the Phillies offer Drabek the Brewers can't compete with that.
  23. TORONTO WANTS PITCHING, and if they are going to trade Halladay they are going to get it. That is why the Phillies are the frontrunner for Halladay. They have prospects like Drabek and Carrasco to offer. The Brewers best pitching prospects aren't major league ready, so they can easily be trumped by the Phillies. Oh and the sky is not falling if the Brewers do not acquire Halladay. Every time there is potential to acquire a big name in a trade, and it looks like things are not going to work out for some reason there are some fans who act like this. I don't get it.
  24. Frustarted? Sorry, I thought that was funny. I don't think anybody is saying we can't trade ANY prospects. Just don't sell the farm for the pretty new toy (Halladay). Maybe another starting pitcher could come in and help the Brewers make a run, and not come at such an exorbitant price. I like the idea of trying to get someone like Bedard now, and maybe going after someone like Peavy in the offseason.
  25. That mentality worked well for our economy.
