  1. LOVE that Turnbow is on that list. Also, didn't know Shouse-y was up. If we can convince Ned that he really is JUST a loogy, I'd really like to see him back.

  6. Don't forget that there are a lot of Cubs fans that have never stepped foot in Chicago, much less Illinois thanks to WGN. A lot of people who live in an area with no team have gravitated to the Cubs because they can see a lot of games on cable thanks to WGN. Cubs fans at other stadiums are just as likely to be from that area as they are to have traveled. They're like Bebe Kids. They don't die, they multiply!
  7. He'll always have a special place in my heart for the commercial he did in which he was coming his bobblehead's hair and talking to it. Classic. In addition, it's the best SGA bobble we've produced. Great stuff.
  8. And my first thought was "And THAT'S the appropriate way to celebrate"
  9. Tom's points are well-made (for once) and yet he totally lost any cred by using the term "big boy time" not once, but twice. Seriously, couldn't he, or someone in copy editing, come up with something better there? The sentiment is straight on, but the term just makes me imagine a kid on a training potty.
  10. I watch a whole lot of stuff during the summer that I wouldn't watch if there were good things on tv and I think the Olympics fall into that category. I'll watch it because it's on and nothing else is .. kind of like Big Brother.
  11. The Branyan homer was spectacular. The bleachers were going nuts and it was just pure, awesome fan-joy! Also, May 9 when we took the game in the 9th against the Cards and Isringhausen blew the save. We'd been swept by Houston and Florida successively and came home to play St. Louis. It was a momentum changer and just nail-biting good stuff. We were next to a Cards fan and could totally share his pain, as we were going through the Gagne situation. You just knew that game was big in terms of our place in the standings and the rest of the season.
  12. My boyfriend went to this game without me and I'm still bitter 2 years later. It's the only SGA bobble in the past 2+ years I don't have. Please let me know if you have one and what you're looking to get for it. I don't have extras right now, but I will likely have an extra Corey and an extra JJ (I hope) Thanks
  13. When I was at Wrigley on May 1 this guy behind me spent the entire game going on and on about how we got their leavings when we took Kendall, and he's so awful, and he couldn't throw anyone out, etc... and someone finally turned around and quoted Jason's stats and told the guy to shut up if he didn't know what he was talking about. It was fabulous.
  14. I actually think Uke and Powell are awful about this. I've listened for an inning + before getting the score before. I've noted it more than once to whomever I'm listening with. They get talking in their stories with each other and the play-by-play fits in-between and they head out to a commercial and in from a commercial still telling the story and you get no inning/score update. It can be very frustrating. (edit: pared back quote --1992)
  15. One other thing that always makes my head at Brian is when he says a ball was hit well but straight at the fielder and they're showing the fielder running to catch the ball. It's not "right at" the guy if he's got to run and get it. It's stupid, but it bugs me so much.
  16. I complained about Brian in one of the IGT earlier this week. He's as bad as an announcer who has a team for one game a year and has his 4 or 5 "tidbits of information" and goes back to them over and over. It's so frustrating. And ridiculous from someone who has 162 games of contact with the team and should have more than a few cursory bits of info to share. I completely agree that he acts like no one that watched the game on Monday will be watching on Tuesday. He mentioned that this is the 3rd year of the 3rd Busch a million times. He also brings up the Bill Hall first HR in Busch tons. In fact, one night he went to that one by the 3rd inning and then it was the Aflac Trivia question in the next half inning. That being said, I watched a few innings of the Cubs game on WGN this week and it was beyond painful. They spent more than an inning doing "shout outs" to people that send them fanmail. Unreal.
  17. It rubs me the wrong way, but I guess I don't have any major problem with it. To me, watching it is cocky, not celebratory. This is showboating. Running around the bases clapping/fist pumping, etc.. doesn't fall in the same category, IMO. Also, I feel like it was different for Billy. He had a look of "Holy crap, did I just do that again?" He looked shocked and momentarily stunned - once he woke up, he started running. Maybe I'm making it up, but they had different feels to me.
  18. I hate this and honk at people that do it. Granted, I honk at a lot people because I think they are not paying attention to anyone else on the road and it bothers me. Move people! Right. You do the short honk and give them a little wave forward motion and they look at you in their rearview like you're the idiot. Then they flip you off for beeping at them. Classicly clueless.
  19. This has had me giggling all morning. The pictures are ridiculous! I love the vision of CC putting vegetables in the hot tub with Prince to make a stew.
  20. They analyzed in game on Baseball Tonight last night and basically said Rickie should have been closer to the bag if he's been at all paying attention to Molina, who set up considerably outside, putting him that much closer to first.
  21. Last night: 106 July 18: 110 July 13: 122 July 8: 97 pitches through 6 innings
  22. The fact that it could happen this soon means there's a lot of time left ... and I'm not sure I can handle that kind of ride.
  23. Tonight's game (and really, this series) is textbook on why I dislike Brian Anderson as a commentator. He uses the same tidbits and the same phrases OVER AND OVER and it gets so old. I've lost count of how many times he's talked about "The Muscle" of the order - which is funny because Brian's the one that calls Russell "The Muscle" and every time he says it, I assume he's talking about Branyan. He's said this is the third year of the third incarnation of Busch multiple times. Last night, he completely busted the Aflac trivia question by giving the answer the half inning before. (Not that we need it, since every time we're at Busch, every game, they mention that Bill Hall hit the first HR there). We play the Cards how many times a year? And does Brian assume that he's got new viewers every time? It's time for some new material *end rant* sorry
