  1. starting pay for emt from $7.50 to $9.00 an hour, we used to joke about it because there was a sign at a fast food restaurant offering $9.00 an hour. I believe some of the privates start about 10 but that isn't what most of us got into ems want to do. (I left a job paying 60k-sales- a year to do this and i have never looked back nor regretted it...just me my friend but money can be way overated.
  2. I didn't mean to defend the owners. They are greedy as well. Why does anyone need that much money? (I am an EMT, starting money at McD's is many times more than starting pay for an EMT, at least where I live. I could not do any other job though, very satisfying.) Please don't take this as I am bitter. Frustrated, yes- but I will watch the game of baseball regardless until I die and I enjoy it each and every time. When the players went on strike I watched more college ball and the local A team but the second they came back I had MLB on. I love watching the best do what they do. They have a right to do whatever they want, I never questioned that. That doesn't mean I agree with it. Bottom line is this, it is my opinion and my belief system in regards to money. I would take more money for what I do in a heart beat but if I made enough to pay all my bills and had a few dollars to play with I wouldn't leave just to make more. That to me is greed and I don't like it. Just my opinion.
  3. Not in my mind, but in the mind of the players. I (and it may be a romanticized version) don't see players play for the love of the game as much as the love of money. It is not simply the players fault, owners are greedy as well. Look, IMO it is messed up when an EMT who saves peoples lives makes less than someone working at McDonalds and then a player leaves the team that invested time in money for him because instead of $10 mil he needs $12 mil...I know it is old fashioned but you are playing a game and greed is greed. While the game is on that is what I watch. My frustration is after the game when the reports of who is coming or going come on and people who have more money than small countries whine about someone else making more.
  4. Oh Boy...hopefully this doesn't get me banned from the board...The Cards will not finish in last place because of Larussa. I know he is not very popular around here but the man can manage. There last WS win when they did not have any where near the best team is the most recent evidence. To underestimate him IMO who be a mistake. Having said that...please be gentle http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  5. I absolutley love small ball. I know the statistics go against it in a lot of situations and I have to admit that upon reading Money Ball I see the strategic value in not stealing / playing small ball. That being said what I love about the game is the game. I love it when a manager takes a risk. I love the triple more than the home run. I love the battle between pitcher/catcher vs baserunner and the dekes the fielders make to trick the runner. I LOVE THE HIDDEN BALL TRICK!!! Sometimes I long for the days when the thrill of the game was more important than the contract or the agent. Then someone hits a home run...I like that too.
  6. "appears to be struggling, his body language is just awful" This made me think of something I saw him do at the Cincy game earlier this year...it looked like he was reading something written in his hat between batters...anybody know anything about that?
  7. thank you, that i believe would be a good thing
  8. I looked for but couldn't find the answer to this: What does it mean when, and why does a topic get, "locked" like in the "Ned W. Yost" post?
  9. I missed today's game and didn't know that Ben had been pulled - I still stand by my post though. I want him to remain a Brewer. I have said this in other posts too, a lot of it for me is who would you get to take his place? If you get someone who remains healthy but can't put up his numbers with the money being comprable then stick with what you know. If you know someone the Brewers could get that would be an "Ace" then maybe you try and deal him. I noticed we didn't even get in the hunt for the biggest aces.
  10. Absolutely. His injuries, though frustrating are not anywhere near the recurrence level of a woods or prior...Benny is a proven ace and I don't think the fact that he has been injured before is an absolute that it will happen again.
  11. Dusty's biggest mistake imo was allowing the players to become "elitists". The incident when a player called the booth during a game they were losing--Dusty defended the player when he should have told him to focus on playing the game. As much as I hate it, the Cubs fans are among baseballs most loyal and fanatic. They have been losers for a long-long time and yet they sell out and pay higher prices every year. They boo when the team is not doing well but also will stand and cheer that same team/player 10 seconds later when they do well. Many other fans put a player on a you-know-what list and they don't get a reprieve until they do extremley well for an awful long time. Dusty said something to the effect that if they were true Cub fans they would never boo and would always support the team. Even if you are one who doesn't believe that booing has any class for him to rip on one of the most loyal fan bases around was out of touch to say the least. Wait a minute...he ripped the Cub fans? Maybe I do like himhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif My point is if you allow the inmates to run the jail it will not work out well. No I would not take him over Yost.
  12. I have great respect for Simmons, I think a team guided by him would be very fundementally sound which I think is lacking in MLB overall and would translate to a number of wins.
  13. got it...thanks for the edumication...i still like tony though
  14. I mentioned it before and no-one bit...if you are going to replace him with who would you do it??? It is one thing to not like the way a manager / player is performing (or not) but you still have to have someone else. I can't think of anyone available to take his place that has credentials and is out of a job. In a fantasy world I would take Larussa. If you want him gone who is your guy?
  15. There is a definite possibility of him resigning. Benny could have gotten more money last time around and he chose to stay with the Brewers. Maybe he became another greedy athlete (sorry but when you get past a million and you need more you are greedy) but he seems to me to be of the Brett Favre mentality...he loves what he is doing and money--though very important--is not everything.
  16. There has been a lot of Yost bashing this year (by myself as well, especially in the heat of the moment). Let's say those calling for him to be gone got their wish. Who do we replace him with? How about two choices - one that is actually available and then name your dream manager. Available - I would keep Yost as I have no clue as to anyone worth anything that is available. Dream Manager - Tony Larussa
  17. Booing is and always will be a part of every sporting event ever. To believe that anything would ever be different is a fantasy. Also if you stop and think about it, this entire thread is people booing. We are booing the people who are booing. Oops I just booed the people who are booing the people who are booing.
  18. Looking for some feedback. I see the Brewers play small ball when the pitcher is batting, but I am not seeing it in situations throughout the game. Two instances stand out especially for me. 0 outs, speed on 2nd base and speed at the plate. No bunt. One time the speed at the plate was Weeks who stands a decent chance of beating out a bunt, advancing the runner to third which gives the meat of the order the option of a sac fly. It just seems to me that Yost (and I am not a Yost hater) rarely uses the bunt except with the pitcher. I think with the speed of the Brewers this year this is a missed opportunity.
  19. why don't the producer show idiot met fan when brewers are doing good?
  20. excellent discussion people...pretty much given up on other boards. gonna kick back and watch the brewers comeback. look forward to next IGT
  21. weeks has the killer instincthttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. killer instinct is when you make the playoffs, then make the ws and then win ithttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
