  1. Two things about that.. 1) If only we had spent the money to go get the best closer in baseball last year so we could have closed out the Mets we could have made a run at it, right? 2) What is your number to be satisfied? If a big payroll is what you need to feel like we are trying ... is that number $130? $150? Top 10 in the league? Do you think an extra $20mil/yr will get us over the hump? We gave Hoskins $17 last year and he arguably made us worse. To be safe we probably need to sign 3 or 4 of these $15-20mill guys to make sure one of them plays up the money, no?
  2. I guess I just don't know what we are wanting them to do? We have the 6th most wins in MLB over the last 5 years ... do fans want them to add $80million/yr to payroll? Or do they think an extra $7mil for a 1WAR 3B is going to win us a world series?
  3. Do we think we spend less of the working budget allotment each year compared to other teams re: player pay? Or are we just expecting Mark to dip into his pockets to make a personal contribution on top of that budget for that extra few % chance ... and if he does that and the Brewers over perform does he get the extra money he spent returned in full or does the extra generated revenue get split amongst the other owners, etc like normal profit/loss? Everyone that loses their minds over "Mark is cheap! He can spend more!" .. I would love to hear how much money they think it costs to run the Brewers each year. We see payroll and compare it to others then get upset. Genuine questions.
  4. The statue of Uecker outside the stadium is awesome. But the statue of him in the Uecker seats inside the stadium is now my favorite statue of all time and truly I could see myself getting emotional when I see it next and take it in. It used to be just a funny tip of the cap to our beloved announcer. Now it is just the greatest Brewer of all time watching his favorite team from his favorite spot, forever.
  5. If someone in Milwaukee doesn't have some Usinger's sausage outside of his statue in the next 60 minutes we will have failed as a fan base.
  6. It's crazy how close you can feel to someone you have never met. Most summers I spent more time with Uecker than I did my own father. RIP to the best Brewer of all time. What an impact you had on my life my friend.
  7. We are spoiled with her. She could take the same path as Trenni and go to whatever network she would want at this point if she wanted a higher profile job but chooses (I assume) to stay home and hang with us. We are lucky to have her!
  8. Oh, ok. I must have misunderstood what I said. Thank you!
  9. You know, it is such low-hanging fruit to make the joke that all of the former Brewers are going to funnel their way down to Chicago to play for Counsell again but this was just about the least surprising free agent signing of this offseason. Fully expecting Wade Miley to sign a deal with the Cubs as well here in the next month or so.
  10. I know this is devoid of lots of info, but in a vacuum just showing age and WAR over the last 2yrs it is crazy to see Severino, Houser, and Montas all next to each other with the same age and same WAR and 2 of those guys just got paid a boatload of money while Houser had to take a MiLB deal.
  11. Arbitration is hard. It's still a business at the end of the day and every agent and player are watching how you operate. If you bend the knee to Player X for $150k this year and you probably had the leverage to win the case... Good luck next year getting anyone to settle at a fair number. Because of Burnes' situation I think Brewers fans will always have a permanent fear of how these things can go wrong. All situations are different. My opinion is sometimes you need to protect your team/fans and "pay up"... and sometimes you need to protect your business and "pay down". Tough game of chess that you hope ends without any broken or missing pieces.
  12. Good numbers at Round Rock last year FWIW
  13. Which would further this monetary gap in favor of AZ..
  14. Assuming any of Baltimore, NY, or Boston is the AL East team referenced here ... the contract he got with AZ is better annually once state taxes are considered. (I know guys get taxed in each state they play in, but for simplicity sake..) Add in the opt out after '26 where he can possibly get a bump if he pitches well AND this being home ... this actually seems like a no brainer to go to AZ.
  15. Looks like there is an opt out after '26? State tax in Arizona is a flat 2.5% regardless of income. State tax in California for top earners is north of 12% if the Giants were truly the other contender here. I guess Burnes also lives in Scottsdale? Those few things would def be enough to swing the decision..
  16. Fun fact, looking over Zimmermann's history - he started against Milwaukee in the Orioles home opener in '22 and threw 4 scoreless against us.
  17. Definitely. $2 for a 16oz fountain soda that is 1/3 ice is still probably an 500% margin I would guess.
  18. I will say I would be in favor of a version of "surge" pricing at the stadium. Weekdays bring the pricing down to encourage ticket sales and make the experience more affordable. Then weekdays do whatever you want with the full stadium. I do understand weekends are when families typically are able to go together so this doesn't help that situation all too well... But it is a bit of a compromise at least.
  19. It is a nice thought but you are asking the most alpha business people amongst us (owners) to think in terms outside of supply and demand, which is actually impossible in a lot of cases. Most only know one form of communication. "If they don't buy the hot dogs we will lower the price until they do. If they buy the hot dogs, we will raise the price until they don't." I believe your plea is more appropriate to the fan bases who continue buying, because in the owner's eyes we are agreeing that the prices are fair because their inventory keeps moving.
  20. We are done with him after 50 at bats?
  21. I think we need to give the kid more than 50 at bats in the bigs before panicking about his offensive skillset. His career OBP in the minors is over .400 ... and even with his struggles in his short stint last year his OBP was 100 pts higher than his avg. Lot of offseason left but as of now he is the backup at 1B and will be rostered. Lot can change though. I'm low key excited for him this year.
  22. I wonder what the over/under is on the number of bunts the Brewers are going to lay down this season? I can't imagine there is another team that will attempt more...
  23. The one caveat I would add, and I would consider myself neutral on the subject of currently NEEDING to add more power now, is that there are really two seasons to deal with. As you mentioned, the Brewers seem to have the regular seasons nailed. Right now I think the focus is on building the best 40 man roster that can survive 162 games and come out alive at the end. I think the 2nd roster that needs to be built is the playoff roster and that is where we maybe need to be more aggressive, maybe more so than we have in the past. Once we hit summer and are positioned nicely ... I think "Do we have enough power?" is a super appropriate question to ask and act on. Right now, I really want the best players we can get that can get us the 162. Who could have known Tobias and Perkins were going to be season savers when it all started last year. Imagine if he had "dealt from depth" before the year and traded Perkins for someone with power? Who knows, in a weird twist of fate maybe Mike Boeve ends up hitting 12 home runs for us this year. Again, I don't think anyone is wrong in this instance ... but personally I just want the best players on the 40 man that we can acquire to start the year, all else equal. Sorry I rambled, hope that makes sense.
  24. I think it is really easy for fans to look at roster compilation and find the 'oddity' and be worried it will become an issue. If the Brewers have a roster full of Brice Turang's and we average between 4-5 runs a game ... do we care how they are scored?
  25. I'm willing to let the off season play out in its entirety before discussing losing our GM.
