It's just amazing to me that he said that he would've been out of players if he used Counsell, like he didn't know that Taylor Green was on his roster. I wonder if a reporter called him out on that?
Wow, just read the game story on jsonline, and this part really bothered me. Is Taylor Green not even considered a player? Roenicke had Craig Counsell - an accomplished bunter - on the bench, but elected not to use him in favor of Betancourt. "We're getting low on players," Roenicke said. "We know we have to run somebody out there. We have the pitcher coming up in a spot, and I used (Mark) Kotsay in a spot. So we'd be out of players."
That was very painful to watch last night. To have Yuni still bunt when he is terrible at it, and the 1st and 3rd basemen are all the way in waiting for the bunt was not a good choice, especially when you had mister fundamental Craig Counsell on your bench. I really hope Roenicke starts making some better decisions before the playoffs. I think they are good enough to get by when there playing the bottom teams, but those decisions will really cost them come playoff time. Also RR, please give Taylor Green an AB, I know he's not a crappy hitting gritty veteran, but he might surprise you.
Won't is strong, "shouldn't" is what I should have said. Maybe a terrible team would start him, but if the Brewers start Caleb Gindl full time in an OF corner, we have a serious, serious problem. He's got no real remaining power projection, his average arm is going to kill his value in RF, he doesn't have the speed for CF, and he's a good bet to strikeout 20% in the big leagues, which limits his value as a slap, contact hitter kind of guy. Not a good combo. Once again he's 22 years old, and has improved his slugging and OBP by a decent margin from last year to this year. So why shouldn't he continue to improve? I've also heard that he has an above average arm, is that not true? If he would've stopped hitting when he got to AA I would buy the "he's too short" argument, but he seems to be doing pretty well at each level, especially for his age. I could definitely see him becoming an .800 + OPS guy in right field w/ decent defense.
Ramssuperbowl, Gindl has a .856 OPS as a 22 year old in AAA and the only position he could platoon at is CF? I know he's short and might not have all plus tools, but I don't buy it. How do you have such definite answers, like " no, Ginl won't be a platoon starter"?
Last year was his first full minor league season, so you could say he got to AA in his first full minor league system and it sounds much better. He has a 2.26 ERA in 100 innings between AA and AAA, w/ a 106/31 k/bb ratio and a 1.03 whip this season. I'd say its a bit to early to say hes not a prospect.
What are the odds that he would clear waivers to get a deal done, how does that whole process work? I would love to have Jim Thome as a pinch hitter off the bench.
Good for him, I can't imagine how good it feels to do something like that as a 21 year old for the team you grew up rooting for. I hope he continues to play well.
It should have been a red card, no doubt in my mind. It would have been one thing if he would have attempted to play the ball, but he grabbed his shirt on what probably been a breakaway. I thought the first half by the USMNT was ugly, but the last 30 or so minutes was great to watch. Landon Donovan getting to play up front was great, and when they have Dempsey, Edu, Holden and some of the other guys added to this roster, and they figure out Klinsmann's style, this is going to be a very fun team to watch.
I expect the Brewers to win 2 out of 3, I'd be dissapointed in anything less. They have a favorable pitching matchup and have been playing very well lately.
Geez Rawbecht, getting pretty serious. I'm sure Cardinals fans don't think they are the way other fans percieve them either. He gave his opinion on what was being discussed, it's not like he said something out of line. By the way, I hate the Cards way worse than the Reds.
I was listening to the Tuesday game on the radio, but didn't the pitch from Saito hit Pujols in the hand and not in the head? Why do the STL media keep saying that they threw at his head?
Why does Lucroy have to bat 7th or 8th when he is clearly a better hitter this season than either McGehee, Betancourt and Lopez? Is it because he's young, or that he's a catcher? I don't get it.
