  1. i don't know why on earth he would do this, but if looper declines the option and fails to meet any of his incentives, would the contract total be 4.75 million?
  2. i am headed down the last week in march. does anybody who has been there before have any tips about buying tickets, where to sit, etc.? i am just curious if i need to buy tickets in advance. how is the outfield lawn? thanks in advance to anybody who can provide any insight.
  3. The Phillies had the 13th highest payroll last year, so they don't really fit in with the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets of the world. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/salaries Also, this article outlines why a salary cap would not work in baseball. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/01/15/bp.salarycap/index.html
  4. my ticket rep said sometime in January
  5. Dillard and Pena could be given a shot in spring training as well
  6. Losing a Type B free agent nets the former team a sandwich pick (compensatory pick) between rounds 1 and 2 (after the Type A compensatory picks)
  7. Thanks Mass. From what I read, Cain has the potential to be in our outfield in 2010. Do you believe he has the ability to be a solid defensive CF or are his skills better suited for RF?
  8. could somebody please explain why mark rogers had to be protected and lorenzo cain did not? both were 18 years old when drafted in 2004.
  9. DeJesus is what the brewers have been looking for over the past two offseasons--left handed, solid OBP, potential to hit lead off. After the Royals traded for Crisp, it appears that DeJesus, Teahen, or Guillen will be on the move.

  13. If he is receiving offers for a 3-4 year deal at 12-14 per year as you predict, then the Brewers should drop out of the running. 3 yr/35 mil is about where I'd put my limit if I were Melvin.
  14. I personally would like to see Garland as a Brewer for a 3 yr/32 mil type deal. He would benefit from a move to the NL after being in the AL for so long. After Sabathia, Burnett, Lowe, and possibly Sheets, I think we will start seeing teams more reluctant to dish out Silva, Marquis, Washburn, Suppan type money for middle of the rotation starters. This should make Garland available at a reasonable price.
  15. rumor had it that the indians offered cc 4 years/72 mil, but cc's agent refuted that report
  16. In Melvin's review of managerial candidates, I'm sure he consulted Kendall to at least deem if the tension Macha caused with his players in Oakland would be likely to return if hired for the Milwaukee job. If it was just a matter of Macha and Beane not getting along, and thus, Macha taking frustration out on his players, I wouldn't hold it against Macha. While I don't like when former players have bad things to say about a manager, Billy Beane has made it clear his managers are figure heads and he (Beane) still has control of the dugout.
  17. Cliff is gone from WSSP. There was an article in the JS about a week ago stating that Entercom made a few job cuts, including Cliff.
  18. Ortiz is signed through 2010 with a club option for 2011
  19. Back to Dejesus, I'd love to have him too. I just see no real reason the Royals trade him unless they are blown away. They like him for the same reasons we'd want him on the Brewers. If we were to deal Hart for Dejesus, we'd be right back here trying to figure out how we fill our void in RF. Neither Gillespie or Cain are ready yet and the FA class of outfielders is quite shallow. Abreu headlines the list, and I'm sure some team will overpay for him for a 2 or 3 year deal.
  20. http://www.baseballameric...ftdb/2008xrnd.php?rnd=3.5 what is the supplemental round after the 3rd round? sorry, i know this isn't a thread on draft picks and compensation, but i can't find this information anywhere. i know the compensation for Type A and Type B players is between the 1st and 2nd rounds, but what are the picks between rounds 3 and 4 for?
  21. And That, Do those scenarios differ at all for Type A players? I know the first one is the same, but how does the second scenario work for Type A players?
  22. the second part of that comment wasn't directed at you Crew2323--just a general thought for the nay-sayers
  23. Crew2323, Just a tidbit of the type of comments you would read in the JS blog: "Hall and Weeks for Ichiro". I think I will follow your lead and stop reading the comments. As far as Cameron, it is unfair to downgrade him simply because he is one of the "group of RH who strike out too much". The problem as a whole needs to be addressed, but can be addressed in other areas of need (3B and 2B). Cameron is who is he is--power hitter, solid defender, good speed, high strikeout rate, high walk rate, decent average--and that type of player is a bargain at 10 million for one year.
  24. http://www.fangraphs.com/...years-free-agent-bargain/ It seems as though Brewer fans are split on whether to pick up Cameron's $10 M option for next year. I feel picking up his option is far better than the alternatives--promoting somebody from within the organization, signing a free agent CF, or trading for a CF. That somebody from the organization would likely be Gwynn. He is a 4th outfielder at best, and his .330 OBP at AAA doesn't make up for his complete lack of power. The free agent CF class is headlined by Mark Kotsay and Jim Edmonds. Trading for a CF comparable to Cameron would cost a top-tier prospect or an impact major leaguer in return. Cameron is solid defensively and can produce runs at the plate. I hope Melvin picks up his option. Your thoughts?
