  1. mauer, morneau, and nathan will make a combined 48.25 in 2011 and who knows how nathan will bounce back
  2. and wolf rejected a 3 yr/28.5 mil dollar deal from the astros before settling for that one year deal last offseason
  3. Isn't Sanchez still a pre-arby guy for 2010, making him less likely to be dealt? Cot's had his MLB service time at 1.133 going into the 2009 season.
  4. Not unreasonable at all to think Lucroy could jump from AA to the majors. My thought was to have Rivera, Salome, and Lucroy all come to camp next year and battle for the two positions on the big league roster. Unless Rivera gets injured, he would almost be assured of one of the two spots. The odd man out could be sent to AAA. It's not going to turn any heads, but it will provide a cheap position at the major league level.
  5. This is what I was referring to: Outright assignments A player assigned outright to the minor leagues for the first time in his career must accept the assignment. Thereafter, a player has the choice of 1) rejecting the assignment and becoming a free agent immediately, or 2) accepting the assignment and become a free agent at the end of the season if he has not been returned to the 40-man roster. A player with 3 years of Major League service may refuse an outright assignment and choose to become a free agent immediately or at the end of the season. A player with 5 years of Major League service who refuses an outright assignment is entitled to the money due according to the terms of his contract. I understand how the options/free agency work, but was asking on this case specifically. JJ is a player with 3 years of major league service time.
  6. Thanks guys. Is that because this is the first time in JJ's career he has been sent down or is there another distinction between the outright and the option?
  7. Per Cot's: A player with 3 years of Major League service may refuse an outright assignment and choose to become a free agent immediately or at the end of the season. When does JJ have to decide this?
  8. # 08:$4M, 09:$6.1M, 10:$8M club option ($0.6M buyout) # 2010 club option guaranteed with 635 PAs in 2009 or 600 PAs and All Star selection in 2009

  10. yeah, i caught that too. after the initial shot of the current standings, there was no mention of the milwaukee brewers.
  11. This may have been addressed already, but if my counting is correct, Gamel will have accumulated exactly 172 days of service time total (28 days from last year and 144 days from May 14 - Oct 4) this year if he does not return to the minors. This would mean he would be arbitration eligible after 2011 and eligible for free agency after 2014 (as opposed to 2015 if he were a super-two after the 2011 season) assuming that he never returns to the minors. Will this play a factor in the decision to keep him in the big leagues this year?
  12. sorry, i meant the difference between 1-4 starters as davego described
  13. yeah, i do understand that the difference is minor, but with every single game being so important to the brewers last year, i want our best pitcher to have the most starts (even if it means just one more than the others). i feel like i am beating a dead horse, but starting gallardo on opening day and on sunday against the cubs just seems like the logical, obvious choice.
  14. 4/7: Gallardo 4/8: Suppan 4/9: Parra 4/10: Bush 4/11: Looper 4/12: Gallardo I suppose Suppan and Parra could be interchangable as well as Bush and Looper. This way, your best pitcher starts on opening day and against the Cubs.
  15. he can start on opening day (4/7) AND against the cubs (4/12)
  16. logan, why not start gallardo on opening day and eliminate all of the "unless"es and "probably"s. every starter will not get the same amount of starts--the pitcher who starts on opening day has a better chance of starting the most games--just simple logic. regarding the second point, it is not about everything evening out over the course of the year. it is about our best pitcher facing the best team in the division on opening weekend. i know its early, but every game accounts for 1/162 of your season.
  17. yo should start on opening day for two reasons: 1. your best pitcher should have the best opportunity to pitch as many games as possible during the year and 2. i'd like to see our best pitcher against the best team in the division. i understand it gets jumbled after a while, but aces traditionally open the year for a reason.
  18. yo was able to handle the burden of a virtual must-win in the last week of the year against pittsburgh (after missing the previous 4.5 months) and the first brewer playoff game in 26 years. the tab of "opening day starter" will not rattle him.
  19. i would really like to see yo pitch opening day on the 7th, so he can go again against the cubs on the 12th. aside from pushing yo back to the home opener (no. 4 starter), he is going to miss the cubs series because macha doesn't think he can handle the burden of being an ace. i really do not understand that mindset.
