  1. Man, I can't wait for this to start! Two complete rosters facing off; one with the better starters the other with the better bullpen. I'm going to try and enjoy this and not stress when I watch . All the same reasons we have to be concerned about the Dodgers they have the same number to be concerned about the Brewers. Love that we start at home! I'd treat that 1st game like it's a win or go home. Empty the bullpen to get game 1 if needed. That's what they've been doing so I guess I don't expect much different.
  2. I don't really have a preference on who I'd rather have the Brewers face with regard to talent/match-ups. Actually, typing this feels like jinxing them . I guess mark me down for Houston since that would leave the east coast bias where it's at right now, on the east coast. Also, would be nice to not see guys freezing on the field.
  3. I'm not super stoked about signing anybody of that group. I think there are plenty of internal options. Chacin- under contract and been mostly effective Neslon- should be back- probably with an inning restriction I suppose Anderson- current situation aside, I don't think you can just dismiss him Burnes- might be the ace of the team next season Peralta- should probably included as a candidate to start next year based on what he did this season Woodruff- Seems like he's pretty much been forgotten about, maybe his future is in the bullpen too, but I still think he has the makings of a good starter But, as they say you can't have too much pitching so sign me up for Morton. He's been effective, but not all that durable and doesn't have age on his side. I think that keeps the price reasonable for somebody who when healthy has been really good the last couple years. Edit- completely forgot about Davies too
  4. Can’t imagine a guy they started in game #163 would miss the postseason roster but I guess ya never know. Personally I'd leave Perez off in favor of Thames. If they believe Arcia can produce like he has the last couple months then I think it does make one of Schoop or Perez expendable. I like the threat of Schoop better. The same with Thames; none of them is particularly good at working a count so I'll take the guys that offer the biggest threat to run one out of the park.
  5. That's fantastic! I'm hoping to shut my office door and turn up the radio. We'll see how long that lasts
  6. I think despite the powerhouse lineups, the game will come down to a play or two in the field. Can't give extra outs. I think the Brewers make some big plays in the field and utilize some speed on the bases to force some errors by the Cubs.
  7. I really don't care what lineup the Cards put out. Typically players act as professionals; the same way Detroit is giving the Brewers all they can handle. Win your game and let the chips fall where they may
  8. Just thinking about this roster the other day in the same way. In the last 30 years this current roster might be the deepest top to bottom. I was trying to compare the 2011 roster. At least that one has some recency. The 2011 version had probably better starting pitchers but not nearly the bullpen this 2018 model has. They had nice star power position player wise, but not nearly the versatility of the current group. Cain and Yelich make such a big difference at the top of the lineup with how they approach AB's. Obviously the results are nice too. They can beat you on the bases as well. If there's a chink in the armor it'll end up being the starting pitching. I don't know how everything will end up but this is a complete roster that has the ability to do some damage in the post season. Let's sweep!!
  9. I'm going to go with the too cute opinion on this. I don't like it; obviously I do hope it works. Either way they're going to need to put some runs on the board. I'd hate to burn through bullpen arms ( I know there's a few extra down there), and still lose the game and then have the bullpen be at a deficit the rest of the week. If the bullpen starts the game poorly, then what are your options? I'd at least let him start and see how it goes. Try to get one time through the lineup at least. If he's on you can let him go and finish out as expected with the bull-pen. If he's off, you can remedy the situation early and start bringing in guys. I just don't see how this ends well in any circumstance with Jennings starting. Why is this one game being emphasized over the remaining six? My biggest issue I guess is that the more often you switch pitchers, the more likely it becomes you run into a guy that just doesn't have it that day. If Jennings is indeed the starter then I'd guess my bullpen lineup would be something like: Jennings Guerra Burnes Hader Knebel Jeffress
  10. If I go back to the original post, I think Rizzo was/is likely frustrated at playing in cold rainy conditions. Even if you love baseball, playing or watching in the cold at the beginning and ends of the season in some of these outdoor parks isn't all that fun. That said, it's always hard to side with a millionaire playing a sport for a job. Personally I'd like to see somewhere around 150, and expand that first wildcard series. I get the 162 game numbers thing but the game has changed so much over the years the numbers often being compared aren't really that comparable... if that makes sense. Just consider the way relievers are used, defensive shifting, bat manufacturing, PEDs, ability to generate statistical scouting reports in an instant, etc, etc...
  11. I haven't bothered to read the other 30 pages, but Counsel deserves credit for managing a perfect game. He's left some things to be desired at times this season but he managed this one like a playoff. He wisely pulled the plug on Anderson when he didn't have his best stuff, despite the positive results.
  12. No doubt this is an important one! Must win, maybe not but it's their last chance head to head so it's significant. Something that I don't see mentioned very much is that if the Brewers do play well enough down the stretch to overtake the Cubs they have a very good probability of also having the best record in the NL. Despite what people might think about this team not necessarily being a Championship level team there's a REAL opportunity THIS season.
  13. Is it just me or does this thread pick up every time there's a loss?? I think both sides of the argument have some merit. I agree that Villar fell out of favor; he really did make bone headed mistakes on the bases. I have to believe that was part of the issue. I mean 3 years of watching the same mistakes gets old. In a vacuum, I will also agree that those mistakes don't much matter when comparing two players in terms of total value. There's always alternatives based on decisions. I don't think anybody is without criticism. So, I have no doubt there were other options or things could've played out differently. The best part about the trade for this season is Schoop's bat is capable of carrying a team in stretches/ series' if he gets hot. Whether or not that happens this year I don't know but that's something I don't think Villar could provide.
  14. If you can add him, why not. He's throwing the ball harder again. He's not performed any better than our current group (which I guess is ultimately what matters) but his stuff can be better. The rosters expand in a few days. They could easily send a reliever down to accommodate his roster spot until then. They've been a bit unconventional with the position part of the roster this season so it wouldn't surprise me if they did some things different pitching-wise down the stretch. I could see them going to a 6 man rotation down the stretch or piggy-backing guys. Somehow they need to bridge the gap better to the late inning guys. We don't have the guy that can consistently pitch well deep into games.
  15. Tough game today, but a split of 2 on the road isn't horrible. I still like this club. Schoop apparently us the scapegoat on here.. or at least the trade for him is. Everything is still available to them. Just gotta get HOT
  16. Was thinking the same thing. Guerra doesn’t have it today. Too late now and the rally is over Agreed.
  17. Only 5 games this week! A 2 game sweep of the Cubs is on tap.
  18. Booo!!!!! Guasman making the Braves look smart, at least today
  19. This is the lineup I've been waiting for. Hoping for a good series. To the point where they're needing to win the majority of the remaining series. This is a big one a solid test after a disappointing Padres series.
  20. And if 6 of those wins are against the Cubs, that probably wins the division!
  21. There isn't much difference between Knebel this season or last season. Really, your last reliever on the roster should be able to hold a 4 run lead against the bottom of the Padres order. You just can't walk the bases loaded. You can debate bullpen strategy all you want. There's nothing wrong with the strategy/roles, whatever... you can't walk 3 guys. What I DO wonder with Knebel (and some other relievers) is when they're warming up you'd think it's be fairly apparent that he doesn't have the feel for his curve that day. How hard would it be for the bullpen coach to just rely that the guy doesn't have it today and either get somebody else loose or stick with the previous guy? I mean especially with Knebel, you pretty much can see it the first batter whether he has it or not; he only throws two pitches.
  22. What the hell is going on out there? Did they relax after the 2nd inning.. or maybe the Padres relaxed after the 2nd. Please make it stop
