  1. Pretty much this. Win some playoff games and the media will have to cover them. Until then, don't expect much from the national media. Honestly, right now does anyone outside of Milwaukee, other than Brewer fans and baseball nerds really care about the Brewers? Probably not. The A's and Mariners are having terrific seasons as well and you rarely hear about them. Whether or not they get national exposure is not really a care of mine. In this day, there's all sorts of outlets, including this site that provide more value for my time.
  2. This part is true. I think people thought that because they were in our top ten that they could have returned something like Machado, but the reality is, our farm system cannot compare to that of others. I never thought those guys had much of a chance to make a big impact at the MLB level so I am 100% on board with the trade. Regardless, a combination of Shaw/Moose/Schoop/Arcia is much better than a combination of Shaw/Arcia/Perez/Villar/Saladino/etc. so that is why the trade was made. If anything is evident from Stearns moves over the last couple years, its that he really values depth. This is the best explanation I can find and I'm in agreement. They subtracted Villar and Saladino (or whoever rotated through that roster spot) with Moustakas and Schoop. They are not perfect players but for sure that is an upgrade. Adding two recent All-Stars with 30+ hr power is not leaving empty handed. For sure there is going to be at least a modest cost for that type of player. If we're going to use the small sample of Brewer AB's to downgrade the Schoop add then we should also use the small sample to analyze Moustakas's glove at 3B. He has been excellent over there; and Shaw has actually looked adequate at 2B when slotted there (something I was skeptical about). I know people don't want to sacrifice the future, but perhaps the future is now. We can debate on what moves should've been made instead. That's cool; I get it. Maybe other moves would've been more ideal, but I don't think there's any debate that the team got better at the deadline.
  3. What about Russell Martin? $20 million for next season is too much but maybe the Jays eat some salary? Not really much of a hitter these days but is still presumably solid behind the plate and has a decent OBP. It's something that this team hasn't been in position to do lately, but really they are down to trying to make incremental upgrades as opposed to filling holes. For a team that appears to be serious about having some post-season success, he might be a welcome addition.
  4. Maybe... it still seems like a long shot for either of those two though. I think Duffy has the better chance to clear. I'd be all over Minor in a bullpen role. He thrived in that role last year; 8-9 million isn't much for a good bullpen arm these days. They both also have left-handedness going for them which in many cases creates a bit extra demand.
  5. Back home, a game out of first, and competing for the best record in the NL! The last couple games were disappointing but it's all laid out pretty nice yet. I predict Schoop gets hot at (his new) home! Time to string together a win streak!
  6. I'd DL him until the rosters expand. Go get Barnes or Houser. I'd like to see Woodruff instead of Williams on this roster. He could in theory go a couple more innings when needed and gets a few more ground balls. Not sure on Albers. Admittedly, I haven't see very many games but watching Albers pitch yesterday his velocity seemed fine and he had some pretty good movement on quite a few pitches. It just seemed like he was missing spots and the movement he did have was pushing the ball over the plate too much.
  7. For professional baseball this is embarrassing. Perez throws less than batting practice. I get not wanting to burn a reliever but an actual pitcher should go out there.
  8. Easy folks. Schoop will be fine. The Brewers will be fine. This game, not so much... I think maybe I'll stick it out a bit to see if they put up any sort of fight. Sucks that they made Kershaw work a bit in the 1st and then let it all get away.
  9. Man that was a pretty intense game. The first one I've gotten to see in very long time on TV (demoing sling). Of course, I pick the one that goes to extras in the wee hours of night and they lose. Missed alot of opportunities, as did the Dodgers I guess. Get back at em today.
  10. I want 'em all in the lineup: Yelich RF Cain CF Braun LF Aguilar 1B Moustakas 3B Schoop SS Shaw 2B Pina C On a side note: I feel like the next most logical move before the deadline would've been to trade for Harper and stick him back behind the dish.
  11. Too bad the Angels are out and the Nats are not likely to be buyers as each of those teams could, in theory, make a claim... That's outdated. His 10/5 rights kicked in last May. That's why some of us were so disappointed they didn't do the LAD deal in 2016. One of Stearns few mistakes imo. Anyway, I can't see a team claiming him where he'd accept the move. The Brewers are in the position that most players want to be in.
  12. Why would Braun agree to a trade at this point? Remember he needs to approve any deal.
  13. Agreed. I wouldn't be counting on Miley to be an answer in the rotation for the entire remainder of the season. He's had a nice run but let's not get carried away.
  14. Yep. Even while he's regarded as the best in baseball, I don't think we really hear enough about him. He's something ridiculous. It'll be interesting to see how he ages. I hope it's not a fall off the cliff type of thing for him because we are in for something special if he can keep his body together. He's also a great example that one player can't make a team. Honestly, if I'm the Angels I think about trading him in the off season. What would it take? Aguilar, Hader, Burnes, Arcia and Hiura.
  15. Quick question about the waiver deadline. Am I correct in saying that only players not on the 40 man can be traded? Can the trading team (team placing the player on waivers) include non-40 man players in a deal?
  16. The difference was that Gomez was a plus defender so you could excuse some of the other flaws. Villar is bad defensively so if he isn't working out elsewhere he has no value at all. Gomez also crashed and burned his way out of Milwaukee and everywhere since. Won't be missing either of them. I won't miss Villar. I was wrong on him after his big season. Just too many bone headed base running mistakes to forgive with the rest of his profile. Gomez hasn't been anything since he left, but man at his peak he was electric. LOOOVVED watching him play. For me, he's one of the few players that was worth the price of admission.
  17. There's not a ton of obvious over-priced vets that fit the bill really. Jordan Zimmerman is probably the biggest one. He's pitched better and COULD MAAAYBBEE help. Though I'm not sure why the Brewers wouldn't just call on Woodruff instead of taking on even part of that ridiculous contract. Derek Holland or Marco Estrada might be serviceable if needed. Josh Donaldson would be a pretty nice addition to add to our slew of infielders/ bench bats. People's heads would explode but it would be entertaining.
  18. That sounds encouraging at least. I don't hate the move; I mean the more talent you can add to the roster the better. I just think that if you're willing to improve the offense at the expense of defense by moving Shaw then you should kind of be all-in with that philosophy for this season. If Schoop can play D even at a slightly below average level at SS, they should take a shot at it. Let Arcia come in as the defensive replacement even if he's in early, at least you get the majority of the bats in the lineup/game.
  19. If Shaw can play 2nd then Schoop has to be able to play SS right? This is a bit of the out of the box move, but it makes more sense if Schoop sees at least some time at shortstop.
  20. I think anything dramatic would've been completed already but.. .. for the sake of the thread: The Brewers decide to try and overwhelm the Mets for DeGrom and succeed sending: Ray, Hiura, Ortiz, Zack Brown, Taylor Williams, Houser and Villar for DeGrom and Flores
  21. Hmm, this one doesn't make sense to me. I didn't recognize prospect names. Logjam aside, seems like a sell low.
  22. So, they're willing to trade Gio but not Harper, because they're still in the race? Gonzales isn't really a difference maker; he's a decent innings eater. This would drive me crazy if I was a Nats fan. Either you're in it or your not. When you could extract a decent amount of value with Harper, they ought to decide one way or another. In that division, or for the entire NL for that matter, I wouldn't sell if I was their GM. There is not powerhouse; just have to get hot.
  23. I think it's a slow day from the Brewer's side, though I'd expect either a rental starter or an additional bullpen arm. I think the position players are set. I think Harper gets traded along with the Gio Gonzales to the Indians for something including Bieber and Chang.
  24. Matt Harvey. I get the feeling that DS is not willing to move the prospects it would take to get a guy like DeGrom for sure and possibly guys like Wheeler or Guasman. IF Harvey was really up in the mid to high 90's with his fastball I think that's important. I've been starting to come around on him. Even if he's a guy you're just relying on to pitch meaningful innings and not be a top of the rotation guy. He has all the motivation in the world going for him and if he pitches well, the Brewers can "abuse" the innings without any real consequence to them.
  25. I agree. I'm not sure what the fascination is with Drury for Toronto. He's basically a slower version of Hernan Perez.
