  1. I know Brendan Ryan's name has all ready been thrown out there, but what if the Brewers took on another salary dump move and acquired Ryan and Figgins? Figgins has arguably been worse than McGehee but maybe a change of scenery would rekindle some magic. I can't believe his defense would've slipped all that much. I know he's under contract for the next two seasons at a pretty hefty salary, but I'd be willing to worry about that in the off season. With the situation what it is if we're going to try an upgrade at 3rd I'd prefer more of a guaranteed thing than Figgins, but I think he could be had for not a whole lot. It would be selling low and admitting a mistake for Seattle, but they seem ready to move forward with their young guys. It would also give the Brewers some position flexability and some more speed which RR likes. Sorry for getting off the original topic some.
  2. That's actually an interesting take on this. I suppose it's possible that the two sides come to an agreement to let K-Rod finish games as long as they can void the vesting option from the contract. Both sides win. K-Rod keeps his ability to rack up saves en route to a large payday next season (as mind blowing as it is to overpay a reliever for their saves) and Axford I guess bites the bullet because he's a young player and his income won't really be affected either way for next season. Seems like WAY too much money for a player to walk away from though. He might not even be able to get a two year deal worth that much.
  3. Let me just say that I couldn't be happier as a fan than debating how we're going to try and control innings of a great reliever, instead of filtering through other teams low level prospect lists and trying to decide who we should trade our stud players for. There's no way Mark A. lets that option vest unless all other good options are exhausted. That said, the more I think about it I don't really care who finishes the games. It's not my money and even if something crazy happens and we end up paying 18 mil for K-Rod next season, it's not like the team is in shambles. Most of this team is back next year all ready. It would basically be giving Prince money to Rodriguez for a year. Yes, it would be a terrible waste of resources; we won't be signing any free agents and we'd have to resign the 50 year old Counsil to play SS, but that's not much different than previous seasons. Go get that SS Doug!!
  4. I was definately suprised by this one! Mostly a salary dump for the Mets, so as others have said, I don't think we gave up anything significant. Not that our farm system has anything significant left anway. Nice move Melvin. I don't believe this stops us from improving at SS either. Honestly, why would they stop now? The chips are in the middle all ready. You don't want to be left wondering "what if" if you can aquire a legit improvement somewhere even if you lose some more "prospects" or overspend a little. I will be shocked if Yuni is still our shortstop 2 weeks from now. As far as K-Rod after the season, I don't see why the Brewers wouldn't offer him arby. Some team will come calling with a multi-year deal to close. Even in the slim chance he accepts you could do much worse than K-Rod for 10 mil for a year. With an upgrade at SS it's the Brewers division to lose at this point. St. Louis will be there to the end but I still believe the loss of Wainwright to start the season will be too much for them to overcome. The Cubs and Houston are done. Pittsburgh will falter and the Reds have been rotating through starting pitching the entire season. Onward!!
  5. Barmes would be a massive upgrade. I didn't realize he was so solid defensively. I wonder what it would take to get him? Too bad McGehee doesn't really have any trade value right now.
  6. I'm happy for Pirates fans that have hung with the team, which is likely most all their fans at this point. No, I don't think their pitching is strong enough to remain a threat.
  7. What a sad and horrible tragedy. I hope there's not a string of overreactions by MLB as well, but it doesn't hurt to be overly thorough in situations like this and obviously the situation warrants it. The railing looks somewhat low when the guy is standing, however people have to remember that when sitting that railing is probably just below eye level so people don't have to stare into some mesh fencing or the railing. Just a horrible accident. May the family find the strength peace to move forward.
  8. We'll, looks like we gotta win to stay even with St. Louis. I don't remember the last time I felt like a should check the Pirates score, but I have to admit I've looked them up the last few nights.
  9. I'm not willing to call the Yankees the better team. They probably are by a small margin, but the pitching match ups have favored the Brewers in the first two games going in. The bottom line is they're just not getting it done thus far on the road again. I'm still thinking they might pull a comeback tonight yet.
  10. Noooo!! Hope Marcum is all right. I have faith in Estrada to keep this one close.
  11. I've defended RR a bit thus far, but this is the first loss that I can say definitely falls on his shoulders. Estrada and Mitre are your spot starters and long relievers an shouldn't enter the game until the game is out of had or all other options have been exhausted. That was a clear IBB situation to Castro. Whether or not they would've gotten the DP or not I don't know, but you walk him and bring in Ax to try and go another inning. The Brewers did however squander numerous addition opportunities in this game. This is one that they should've put out of reach earlier. I didn't see the game so I couldn't see when Axfor was warming up, but it sounds like he was warming up for a couple innings. True? Here's a concept: instead of warming him up for two innings, pitch him for two innings and end the game and don't use him tomorrow.
  12. Warning T. P. that's about the only scenario that I can maybe see working and that's only if Prince were to agree to an extension. Prince and Boras seem destined to test free agency so I don't think there's really any scenario where there would be a benefit for both teams. I can't see any teams giving up any sort of a "haul" of prospects or even one legit prospect for that matter for a half year rental. Prospects have become very valued by teams the last few years. Sure you might be able to get some mid-level guys but that's not enough in return for the/a key piece to the Brewers post-season aspirations. So, yes I would trade him for the right offer; I just don't see that offer realistically being made. Last year was the year to deal him, however, right now I'm happy we didn't even though I would love to have Dan Hudson in our rotation for the future (if that was indeed offered).
  13. I will be happy with a split in this series. Throw out the records, these series' are always crazy. Dempster is tough and can dominate when he's right. I expect a tough matchup tonight. I predict a 6-4 win where the Cubs out hit us but we muscle up more and take advantage of some walks and errors. I enjoy being in the mindset where I have to think of how we might possibly lose a game instead of trying to contemplate what has to go right for us to get a win.
  14. Sell a Triple cheeseburger and call it the Prince Burger and take a % of the profits. Same thing for beer and soda. Get an over-sized collectors plastic cup(larger than any size they have now) with a crown snap on top. Sell T-shirts "I helped sign Prince" and have all the profit go towards signing Prince. Not sure what would happen if they did all this and didn't sign Prince. Text, "sign Prince" to donate a 1$. Post it on the big screen during Prince at bats. I'm only half serious. I think some could generate some extra revenue but I'm not sure if fans would find it a little insulting.
  15. I agree. After watching the replay there was no embellishment there. He was going back as fast as he could and braced for the impact. I think those that are saying he made it look harder than it really was are not considering how fast he was moving to catch up to that ball. Most center fielders don't catch up to that one. Nice win!! Ladies and Gents... your 1st place Milwaukee Brewers!!
  16. Niiicceee!! Thank you for proving me wrong Mr. Loe. Finish 'em off tomorrow!! I love being a fan on days like this!
  17. What an ideal time to pitch Axford in the 8th. Won't happen. I have a horrible feeling about this. I hope I'm wrong. We really need some insurance.
  18. That's hilarious!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Uecker is always a good option though.
  19. I don't like it. Seems like change just for the sake of change. I don't really understand why removing divisions is necessary. If they want to do it to make it easier to add teams to the play-offs then I'd say lose the NL and AL all together. Realign everyone. I guess I understand wanting to add playoff teams but they're seriously going to have to consider shortening the season to fit in additional teams. Actually, after the realignment I prefer to have the two best teams chosen by a computer system and a panel of MLB writers and have them play in the World Series.
  20. Perhaps, but at what point does the rest of the club get upset that a good high school player can outperform a guy they run out there twice a week.
  21. Nice win all around!! Uecker was hilarious as well. I'd like to see the same line up out there tomorrow. Let's get # 2 tomorrow boys!
  22. I hope RRR was taking notes. Good move by Collins...and not just because it worked. Once baseball makes the Hold or some other relevant stat an official statistic maybe things can change for the better. The popularity of the Save stat is one of the worst things to happen to baseball besides steroids in my lifetime. However, there's no rule that says managers have to care about stats when they make decisions. At least some are willing to branch out a little bit. La Russa brought his closer in the other night with 2 on and no out in the 8th and he finished the last two innings. The only thing the save is good for is losing teams games and making relievers a lot of money.
  23. I like the emphasis on pitching.
