  1. New series, new outlook, new results (hopefully)!!
  2. A win tomorrow with a Cardinals loss and I'd almost forget the rest of the homestand. Almost. It certainly won't be an easy task though. Give me Kapler, Counsel, and Durham in the lineup. At least I feel like those guys can put up a quality at bat and get the ball in play or work the count a little. Please let the good Dave Bush show up.
  3. I didn't see/hear the comment, but to be fair when I turned on the radio all I could hear is cheering for the Cubs so it may as well be a home game for them. Until our loyal fans stop selling out to the highest bidders I suppose that will continue to be the case. I suppose some ticket brokers probably buy up tickets to these games too. I guess I could care less what they're calling our stadiun on ESPN, but those Wrigley North comments would probably decrease if we actually won a game against 'em.
  4. I'm not overly concerned. Zambrano was great; what can you do. I think we can still split the series.
  5. If I'm Melvin now you have my attention. The only question is now would it make sense for the Angels. They seem to have a pretty good team as it stands and might not need much offense to continue to win that division. Would they part with two big parts to their all ready successful team? Not sure, but I like they idea!
  6. Well, we still have the wild card lead with Sheets pitching tomorrow.
  7. Man, what a disappointing game. Poorly played all the way around; walks, outs on the bases, and obviously poor defense. Ben needs to even this series up tomorrow. I still can't stand that Miller Park is dominated by Cubs fans. It sounds like they're playing at Wriggly! EERRRRR!!!
  8. If he's cleared to play in September then by all means I want him pitching. At this point I like Torres to remain the closer. If Gallardo is healthy I say why not put him back into the rotation? Every time a pitcher throws the ball they risk injury. If he's medically cleared by the people the Brewers are paying big bucks to make those decisions and Gallardo himself says he's fine then you are left no choice but to believe them. He could just as easily get hurt throwing in spring training next year as the end of this season. I absolutely don't want the Brewers to be careless with him, but sometimes I think uncontrollable circumstances are mistaken as being careless.
  9. I just don't see how trading Fielder makes our team better. Even if Fielder ends up making 10 mill. next season it's probably a fair deal if not a steal. I get that his value is higher with more years left under team control, but I just can't get behind trading one of the best young hitters in baseball before we need to. I'm for sure not trading him for prospects alone at this point although if the Angles are throwing back Kotchman or Kendrick and Adenhart then I have at least a reason to listen.
  10. Keep it going boys!! It's going to be electric in the stadium this home stand! I wish I could be there for one of them. Wandy's been pretty decent this year, but hopefully Manny can keep his cool and pitch the way he's capable of. I have to imagine as fun as this winning streak is there might be a little pressure building as each subsequent starter tries to keep it going. I can't wait for the game to start and have fun to all those lucky enough to attend.
  11. Yikes, I just watched the video. What a joke. So much for taking the family to a fun wholesome sporting event. I have a ton of respect for umpires/officials at any level and am no way defending anything that happened on that field, but I have to believe that the umpires could've controlled some things better earlier in the game. This still is blowing my mind. That's the worst I've seen in baseball. I was surprised to not see any fans on the field. Seriously, send both teams home for the rest of the year without pay. What a total lack of self control and embarrassment to the sport.
  12. I like the thought, but I don't think it's a good match. I seems like Cleveland fully intends on having Sizemore as the face of their franchise and why not he's a stud. He's signed to a contract that I think the Brewers would like to sign Fielder to. I don't like the idea of trading Fielder at all, but I thought I'd be open minded about it this time for the sake of debate. How about trading him to Toronto in the off season for Overbay, one of McGowan or Marcum, Travis Snider and David Purcey. To be fair I don't really know anything about either Snider or Purcey except that Snider appears to be their best position prospect and Purcey somewhat resembles McClung.
  13. I saw the Yankees released Morgan Ensberg. Would it make sense to sign Ensberg to open up the possibilty to trade Hall? Ensberg could take Halls part of the platoon with Branyan. I know he hasn't done much lately, but he has pretty decent career numbers and was a pretty good defender from what I remember of him with Houston. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that, I haven't looked at any defensive stats.
  14. To answer the original question, I think his value is a mid/high-level young major league pitcher with good upside yet and a couple of top level prospects. I think the names have been mentioned all ready but: Cain, Sanchez, Marcum, McGowan, Hughes. I don't know enough about anyone's minor league system to make a guess on the prospects. I can't envision a team trading their ace for him. While I thinks he's worth Lincecum or Hernandez I just can't see it happening. I can get on board with some of the reasons that people have to deal him, but I'm going to go against what feels like the popular opinion (at least in this thread) and say: "How can they afford to trade him?" Here's a guy who is probably in the top 5% talent wise in MLB. Those types of players don't just fall into teams laps every year. The Brewers have been lucky to draft both Braun and Fielder recently, who IMO fall into that level of player. So we should trade him in the hope that we can some day have 1 out of the 5-6 players we might get in return reach close to that level? R HR RBI BB AVG OPS 105 50 119 90 .288 1.013 Just a reminder of what he did in just his second year in the big leauges. I'll take Fielder and Braun in the middle of the line up and take my chances on the guys around him.
  15. What a joke. How many runners left on base today?? I'm pretty sure 4 runs will be enough to win both games.
  16. Yes, I'd do the deal. However, I don't believe the Giants would trade both. That's the only kind of deal I'd trade Fieder for. I really hope they're trying to work something out with him. Unless, he simply just doesn't want to be here long term and won't consider a reasonable offer in the next couple years. Then I guess we'll have to scoop up what prospects we can for him. He's a proven elite hitter in this league and I understand our need for some pitching, but Prince is a difference maker and I don't want to see him go.
  17. I think Melvin has done a heck of a job. Have some of you forgotten that this team was pretty much the laughing stock of baseball only a few years back? Obviously, I'm sure he may like to change a few things in hindsight, but overall I think he's constructed a solid team. The bigger challenge might be sustaining and building on what we have now. To be fair, he's attempted to address all our needs in the off season. Whether they work out or not remains to be seen. 1. We improved our defense by adding Cameron and moving Hall back to 3rd. 2. He attempted a bullpen makeover. 3. We addressed our catching situation For those of you that didn't agree with signing Suppan, Turnbow, Gagne, Cameron, Hall, what would have you realistically done different? Suppan's money is pretty much market value for a team that needed some consistency at pitcher. When Turnbow was signed he was pitching like an elite reliever. He also got a deal done with Sheets a few years back to try to keep an ace here. Really, I can't see any current contracts hindering future contracts with our young players. I'm all for giving Dougie a few more years to work everything out.
  18. Man, it's amazing how 1 game can almost make me forget that 6 game losing streak. If we're all this excited/releaved I can't imaging how good it feels for the players. Hopefully they can build some confidence. Go get 'em tomorrow boys!!
  19. Yes, I think we are overreacting, but that's the nature of being a fan I guess. For many of us including myself this is the most talented team that the Brewers have put on the field and the closest they'll be to having a chance at the playoffs. I think there were only two other years I remember feeling like they had a chance (since I've been following them) and they were '87 and '92. Man, that's a long time and a lot of bad teams. When this is the group that's hyped to be IT and they don't get it done it makes me wonder if they'll ever get there. So, I think it's mostly just frustration of seeing all this talent and expecting more. Frankly, I think it was easier to be a fan when Turner Ward was our best player.
  20. Interesting thread. Somewhere along the line the last pitcher to pitch in a game got a different title and a stat to go along with it. Now they are the most overpaid and overrated position on a baseball team. It's not that they are not important they're just not more important than the other relievers on the staff. Three outs is three outs no matter when you get them, 1st, 6th, or 9th. If I'm manager I'm using my best reliever when I need an out whether or not it's in the 9th or not. Two on and one out in the 6th, with a one run lead and I want my best guy in there now.
  21. 1. Ned, loosen up man. Smile once in a great while. Tell your players to go and do what they do best and have fun. 2. When you're batting with one/some guys on base it's perfectly acceptable to try to hit the ball to the right side of the infield EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU WILL BE OUT. It's called sacrificing!! 3. Pitchers, please just make them hit the ball, except when you're ahead 0-2. Then try to strike them out. I know it sounds like a lot but you are a professional right? 4. Did I mention loosen up? You're a talented bunch, don't think so much.
  22. While getting shut out by the Marlins is extremely disappointing there's still a lot to be excited about. Most of which has been said all ready...1. We still have a winning record 2. Sheets is not on the DL...yet 3. Yovanni is the man 4. Our defense has been suprisingly good 5. Yost has decided on a (mostly) consistent line-up (although the pitcher hitting 8 is dumb no matter how you look at it) 6. This offense is too talented not to start hitting. Unless Johnny Estrada's intimidating presence in our line-up made everyone that much better the line-up hasn't lost anybody. This is the same team that whacked the ball around the yard last year. The breakout is near!! A few weeks from now we'll be talking about how unstoppable they look!
  23. Please let us win this game now so I can forget this and move on with my day.
  24. This is a freaking joke. How much does it take to throw a strike. How many walks in this game?? There is absolutely no excuse or reason to be in this situation. I can handle a few walks to a tough batter in a difficult situation but to be up by five and have seemingly all your pitchers not able to make the other team hit the ball is ridiculous.
