  1. I wasn't excluding them I was just saying that power is just not home runs it includes both home runs and doubles in slugging. The luck part in a triple is that it can only happen in certain spots in the OF. For example have you ever seen a triple happen down the LF line without it hitting something or a fielder making a bad play on the ball? Triples are very luck based that doesn't mean some players are not able to overcome this luck Jose Reyes is the only player I can think of right now who could hit triples that would normally be doubles. Everyone else needs the ball to hit off a wall or for a fielder to make a bad play on the ball. Perfect example of this is Cameron's triple on Tuesday night the CF played the ball poorly by miss timing his jump the ball bounced off the wall and Cameron was able to reach 3B. If the CF would have played the ball off the wall it is a double or if the CF jumps at the right time it is probably an out. Not all triples are luck based but the majority of them are. I wasn't excluding them I was looking at them when I said even with all the extra base hits that Morgan has hit they are just 1 more than the total doubles Cameron has hit. After todays game Cameron has 25 doubles and Morgan has a total of 25 extra base hits. That is a lot of missing production.
  2. McGehee could play LF if you put him in RF that wouldn't be a very wise idea. I would rather have Lopez play RF (he doesn't have the arm for it though) or have McGehee play multiple positions like DeRosa who I believe McGehee relates to very well. McGehee is definitely better defensively than DeRosa though. McGehee might be the best trade candidate for a pitcher though. But if the Brewers can get someone like an Edwin Jackson for Hardy I would be ecstatic the Brewers would then only have to pick one pitcher out of the free agency scrap heaps (Kelvim Escobar, Ben Sheets, Jon Lackey, etc.). Sheets is probably not a good possibility but I wouldn't mind getting Escobar and putting him in the #1 or #2 slot in the rotation the same with Sheets. Bedard might be a good buy low candidate but I am worried about his injury and if he will even pitch next year. I wonder if the Rays are still interested in moving Kazmir. A Hart and Hardy trade for Kazmir might work that would also allow the Rays to trade Crawford away for some more pitching help if they need it or for some more positional players. If the Brewers go this route I doubt they would sign anyone in free agency unless it would be cheap someone like Bedard who will have injury concerns. If the Brewers get a cheap young player an Escobar or Lackey could be signed though I highly doubt the Brewers would be able to get Lackey they would have to do another Suppan like deal to get Lackey and that is not a smart move for the Brewers to do. Escobar should come cheaper and the Brewers should only have to over pay in dollars and not years for Escobar unless the Angels or some other team gets real stupid and offers him 5-6 year for $12m+ a year then it just wouldn't be worth it.
  3. Why does it feel as though Nyx has hit the majority of his home runs against the Brewers this year?
  4. Except Cameron hits more doubles than Morgan and triples are nearly always luck based since you need a fielder to help you out or hit it in the right spot of the OF to get one. Even when you take into account Morgan having less strike outs he is still less productive than Cameron is. Cameron walks more than Morgan does and he has more power than Morgan. Now Power does not equal just home runs power equals home runs and doubles which Cameron excels at more so than Morgan does. Higher strike outs usually equate to higher power numbers in doubles and home runs. Not only does Cameron also have better power numbers than Morgan he also drives in more runs than Morgan. Cameron's 2009 season SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2009 Mil 118 425 61 110 24 3 18 54 69 121 6 3 .259 .362 .456 .818 Morgan's 2009 season SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2009 -- 119 469 73 144 15 7 3 39 39 74 40 17 .307 .368 .388 .756 Morgan only has 25 total extra base hits that is exactly 1 more double than Cameron has hit so far this year. You will also notice that Morgan's OBP is only .006 points higher I believe that is a couple of hits or walks and Cameron would be at Morgan's OBP. So no Morgan doesn't really get on base more than Cameron does. If you use wRC over at fangraphs.com you will find that Camerons runs created based on his wOBAis at 71.4 while Morgan's is at 68.0. When you look at OPS for CF you will see that Cameron is once again in the top 5 of CF in all of baseball. Cameron is more valuable to the Brewers than Morgan is.
  5. He won't be pitching this year at all. He is going to wait until next year to pitch again.
  6. Bush's May ERA was 4.30. I think it is you who needs to look up the stats before spouting off. By your definition that means Bush was a #3 starter. His April was just a little worse but still in the ballpark of your definition with a 4.50 ERA. Now which is it is a 4.30 league average or below league average?
  7. Nice strawman argument you got going there. You just said in your last post that an ERA about 4.30 is league average and that is a #3 pitcher. Now you are saying that it is a below average ERA? Make up your mind already is something about 4.30 ERA league average or below league average? Pick one already.
  8. I'm sorry but before Bush got injured he was just as you were describing. If you take out his month of June when Bush got injured he was pitching rather good. By Day/Month ERA W L SV SVO G GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG April 4.50 1 0 0 0 5 4 0 26.0 24 14 13 3 9 18 .253 May 4.30 2 1 0 0 6 6 0 37.2 34 19 18 10 9 27 .248 It wasn't until Bush's second start after he was injured in Florida where he was showing signs that he was really hurt. You take out the Detroit and Cleveland games and his ERA is well below 5.
  9. Kelvim Escobar is probably the best player the Brewers could gamble on but I expect he will be the one the Angels resign and not Lackey. I would really love to have Escobar be the #2 behind Gallardo in the rotation. Hopefully Cameron can be brought back and the bullpen is the least of the Brewers worries. The bullpen once Hoffman was healthy was rather good for awhile until they got overworked which happens to nearly every single team. I believe the Brewers had the best bullpen in the league for awhile earlier in the year. Villanueva is still a good bullpen pitcher and I have faith that he will be back to what he was in 2007 and 2008. The Brewers really need to settle the Hardy and Escobar issue. I don't see the Brewers hanging onto Hardy not with Escobar up right now and burning through service time. Escobar is up for good and Hardy is done in Milwaukee. I believe Hart will be back for next year and Hardy and McGehee might be the ones who get traded. If McGehee finishes the year strong he maybe the best player to trade for some pitching over Hart and Hardy. Catcher will be filled by either Rivera and Lucroy/Salome I'm going to go with a Rivera and Lucroy backstop with Salome staying in AAA. If Cameron isn't brought back maybe Gerut will be in CF next year with a platoon partner. If the Brewers could get Escobar on a two year deal with an option for a third year I would love it. The Brewers would probably have to overpay in dollars like they did for Gagne to get Escobar on a short contract but Escobar is coming off a second straight year that he has been injured so he can't really be looking for a long term contract this offseason.
  10. Mid ceiling pitching prospects yes but positional players no. The Brewers can not afford trading a mid ceiling pitching prospect for someone like Morgan.
  11. I used to hate the White Sox announcers but they are OK sometimes just their home run calls get rather annoying after awhile.
  12. Wouldn't be a bad platoon guy in LF with a RH hitter.
  13. Well the Brewers did get a steal of a deal this offseason with Fielder. With the way Fielder has been playing this year he would definitely get more in arbitration than what he will be paid next season. Great move by Melvin and company to get Fielder locked up for at least 2 arbitration years. I'm guessing Fielder would get $12-15m in arbitration after this season for the year that he is having.
  14. How did I forget this one from a video game Kane from the Command and Conquer series.
  15. The Brewers can overpay for players in terms of dollars but what the Brewers can not do is overpay in terms of years. The worst thing the Brewers can do is overpay in terms of dollars and years which is what happened with Suppan. I would have rather have had paid Suppan an extra $3-5 million more for two less years of Suppan last year would have been Suppans free agency year. Over paying in terms of dollars is what the Brewers can do IE Gagne but they can not do a Suppan deal over paying in dollars and years those kind of deals cripple the franchise unlike one or two years like Cameron and Gagne.
  16. Not surprising at all to me that Lawrie is already in AA. I thought he was going to be in AA by the end of the year regardless of what he did in A ball. I believe Lawrie will start in AA next year.
  17. And Martinez is 30 years old and has been declining defensively as a catcher. He is not going to be the Red Sox everyday catcher for very long maybe for the rest of the season but he will be either their 1B or DH next year. Why trade pitching away when you have two equally as good players in Martinez and Youk? I just don't see the Red Sox trading for Fielder it would cost them too much in terms of prospects that they seem to be wanting to hold onto rather than trade. You know the Brewers are going to ask for a Buchholz, Anderson, Bard, and Bowden in return for Fielder. The Red Sox will say no and the Brewers will not talk to them again about that trade.
  18. You are forgetting Victor Martinez and no he is not a catcher anymore. Martinez is a 1B/DH even if the Red Sox get rid of Ortiz Martinez and Youk are still blocking Fielder. The Red Sox have Martinez for another year yet and they will keep him beyond that one year that they have left. I'm sorry but there is just no room for Prince in Boston with Ortiz, Youk, Martinez, and Bay all taking up spots that Prince would be playing at.
  19. Because I would rather see Casey in the OF than at 3B blocking Gamel. I think McGehee could play LF fine it is Braun who I am worried about playing RF.
  20. Sigh. Is all I can say. Seriously? Seriously? Seriously Sheffield?
  21. Holy facepalm batman!http://www.delawareliberal.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/facepalm.jpg There are free agents out there that can help turn the team around. Escobar and Lackey being some pitchers who will be available. Both Lackey and Escobar can be considered #1's or #2's though I believe Escobar is more of a #3 right now with his age. Both of those players are 10 times better than Suppan the only Suppan's and Looper's out there is Washburn. Even Bedard might be possible depending on how bad his injury is even Sheets could be a possibility and I believe there will be more depth in AAA next year with Capuano and Butler in AAA next year. Both will be definitely better than Burns, Dillard, and Smith.
  22. Are you sure about that? Hardy before this year would have fetched a #2 or a #3 starter putting both together will get you at least a #3 starter. If Hardy stays down throughout and has his free agency prolonged for another year that is even more valuable to a team. It is not what you have done for me lately like fans like to look at things it is what have you done throughout your career that GM's look at. Players will have down years and they will have up years it is just going to happen. I'm willing to bet Hardy will have an up year next year for whoever he plays for. You are underestimating Hardy's value by a lot.
  23. And you believe Melvin doesn't believe that pitching is the first priority? Also I doubt Mark A allows anyone even a new GM to trade Fielder. It is not just the GM making the decision it is also the owner it is fine and dandy to say trade Fielder but I don't see Mark A doing that he will try and resign Fielder and if they can't resign him by 2011 they will trade him then and not anytime sooner unless the Brewers are completely blown away by an offer. Secondly Cameron is going to be needed because there is no one to fill his spot. Cain has had some injury issues this year and Schafer isn't ready yet he still needs to work on his plate discipline. Hart is easy to replace a Cat and a RH partner to platoon with him will get you Hart's production. McGehee might be a great sell high candidate this offseason and may bring in a #4 or #5 type starter with a big maybe on a #3 type starter if some team gets desperate for some IF help. Escobar maybe the best option in free agency to plug a hole in the rotation. You could go with a rotation of Gallardo, Escobar, Bush, Parra, and Suppan. Yes Suppan is a good #5 pitcher he is basically the definition of what a #5 pitcher is. All the Brewers would have to do is find depth for any injuries maybe that means Capuano or Butler in AAA. I would like to see more possible players who could be injury replacements in AAA but I just don't know what will be available. Maybe even someone like a Mark Prior will be available this offseason. The Brewers will be able to spend some money on free agents in 2010 but not as much as they will be able to in 2011 unless the Brewers extend Fielder that is. I don't see 2010 as a rebuilding year especially with some high risk and high reward players available like Escobar for the rotation. Maybe even Sheets could be thought about being brought back in 2010 I wouldn't be against that either. If the Brewers are able to get a #2 or #3 for a Hardy and Hart trade that helps the team out more than trading Fielder.
  24. No they are not going into a teams system they are just going to get an advanced scouting. Those academies are not going to go away and they will still be there they will just be there as an advanced scouting department. More like a free clinic of baseball MLB should also set an age limit at which a player is eligible to be in the draft and when they would be considered a free agent. From the age of 17-27 should be the age of which players should be able to enter the draft. At age 27 you are no longer considered a prospect really and that is the prime of a players career. They shouldn't have to wait to be paid after that. Yes others do like Dillon and others who come in late but if they were as good as their counterparts coming from Japan or Latin or South America they would get the same deal. Imagine if Dillon put up numbers like Ichiro did in Japan and everyone was ranting and raving about his potential at the age of 28 do you really think Dillon would get a contract like he did now or would it be something like what Ichiro got? You are going to have to give something for the big market clubs and having an age maximum would be something I could see the large market clubs going along with and even the players union would go along with it. I just can not get behind someone who is 30 years old taking away a spot in the draft for someone who is nearly half their age. The big market teams will still benefit from signing the older Japanese players but any player who wants to come over and is younger than 28 years old they are going to have to enter the draft. 27 years old is as old as I would go with a player in the draft.
  25. No why would you do that and where do you get this notion from? If Prince were to be traded Melvin wouldn't be looking for a Suppan like pitcher he would be looking for 1.) Gallardo, 1.) Gamel, and 2.) Parra's. Just because the Brewers haven't gotten pitching talent in the draft doesn't mean Melvin can't judge pitching talent because he has. All of the pitchers the Brewers have drafted under Melvin and Jack Z have gotten injured. You can't really predict that happening and there still are some very promising arms in the minors. If one or two of those players don't get injured do you still say the same thing about Melvin? Even the Rays have missed on pitching prospects in the first round. Not everything they draft turns to gold. That they aren't happy fielding a 4th place team with a .483 winning percentage? And if the Brewers don't get back top flight MLB ready talent? That then tells Braun that the Brewers really are not interested in helping him out but are being cheap and not getting the talent he wants to be competitive in the league. Braun is someone who wants to be winning every year and Prince helps him win every year. I just do not see Braun being very happy if Prince is traded.
