If the only positive of a player is being a nuisance at the plate then there really isn't a positive. Just because you are not striking out doesn't mean you are positively impacting the game. Weak contact is weak contact and Frelick is full of weak contact. If you are just being a nuisance at the plate and are not actually getting on base then your nuisance isn't helping the team at all. Here's some more advanced stats for Frelick: Frelick is absolutely awful and there is nothing positive that he is bringing to the team other than base running and well you need to get on base for that to be a positive. So even his positive is not even seen by the team because he can't get on base. His BB% is only up 0.8 from last year and while he doesn't strike out a lot he is not doing anything with those non strike outs. Then you have his quality of contact again another negative for him. Just because someone see's a lot of pitches that doesn't mean it is a positive. Seeing a lot of pitches is just seeing a lot of pitches. If that is what mattered then yes Frelick would be a great player, unfortunately you can't score runs or get on base by seeing a lot of pitches. You actually have to do something with the bat to do that and Frelick has been failing at producing anything positive with the bat. There is not much value for Frelick as a trade asset you may get a reliever for him but that's about all you are going to get. Frelick offensively this year is the equivalent of Joey Ortiz's 2025 season. What would you give up for that?

There is no cap without a floor so I really care about the floor. I don't see the large market teams giving up their advantage without the floor so the floor it is.

Even if he opts out after the 2030 season that is about 4.5 seasons worth of an All Star caliber SS. I think it would be worth it to do that trade.

I don't think either side will cancel a season. It might go all the way until February but I think there is a deal that can be made between the two sides. It is very encouraging to see the owners putting in revenue sharing with the players when proposing a cap. This is where I thought the owners wouldn't even do this. I think the floor may need to be increased and/or the cap increased but I think there is a deal in the making here. I feel very confident right now and I think the sides are not that far apart.

Are you sure you are looking at his 2026 stats? He has a 148 wRC+ in 2026. I don't see Vaughn coming anywhere close to that. The best Vaughn has done is a 113 wRC+ in 2022. He only has one more season with the Brewers and is a FA in 2028 the same as Contreras. Contreras has an option next year at $20mm which is a rather reasonable option for his production which you are probably looking at a 120 wRC+ hitter. I don't think you can expect Vaughn to be a 120 wRC+ hitter going forward. Best case scenario for Vaughn is a 110-115 wRC+ season from him. He will also be making around $10-15mm next year in his final year of arbitration.

Not sure why you pinch hit for Mitchell there especially with 2-outs. Yes Mitchell isn't great against LHP but with 2-outs it is better to just let him hit and see if he can come up with a hit. Should have waited until Frelick was up to pinch hit.

The team needs to find an injury for Frelick to send him down and sit him for a bit. He just plain out sucks right now and isn't helping the team at all.

Frelick looks like a little league player at the plate and is hitting like one. If you ever wondered what a little league player would do at the plate in an MLB game you have your answer with Frelick.

Everything off of Frelick's bat is nothing but weak contact. Enough is enough already bench him, release him or send him down already.

Highly unlikely but if Witt becomes available that is the only player I would go after. Unfortunately the next best player Yordan Alvarez plays a position that we already have a bunch of players at DH (Contreras, Yelich, Bauers, Vaughn and Sanchez). Now a few could be removed and wouldn't be missed but Yelich is a DH only at this point in his career unless you want to see him on the IL a lot. Another possibility in Buxton but like Yelich is probably more of a DH going forward. So no fit there either. I don't like Abrams so going to pass on him. Duran looks horrible in Boston like Keston Hiura bad, he would be an improvement over Frelick but only a slight improvement. The best offer I would give the Red Sox for Duran would be something like Wilken straight up for Duran. This offer would get rejected by the Red Sox but I just don't see the value in trading for Duran who looks like his 2024 season was just a fluke. Duran gives me Bill Hall vibes and I liked Hall. Sandy Alcantara probably makes the most sense for the Brewers and I don't think he will cost an elite prospect to get. Something like Adams, Gasser and a lower level prospect for Alcantara. For the Brewers it gives them a veteran starter and for the Marlins it gives them a young 1B/DH prospect a LHP prospect and a wild card. I don't think Alcantara will have much value and this may even be an overpay for him. Then a trade for a bat or two. Trade for Jo Adell and have him platoon with Mitchell in RF, I think you only need to give up a minor prospect here for Adell. Move Bauers to LF and move Chourio to CF. Trade Vaughn, Wilken and a player to be named later to the Red Sox for Wilson Contreras and $10mm. The $10mm is to pay for half of Contreras' option for 2027. Trade Frelick and a minor prospect to the A's for Severino. After all trades Miz, Harrison, Alcantara, Woodruff (if he returns) and Severino in the rotation from the deadline on. This then allows you to put Woodruff in the bullpen for the playoffs where I think he will excel. The starting lineup looks something like Chourio, Turang, William Contreras, Wilson Contreras, Yelich, Bauers, Mitchell/Adell, Pratt, Williams. On the bench you have Lockridge, Hamilton/Ortiz/Leonard/Black and Sanchez. Probably none of these are realistic trades other than the Alcantara trade.

About freaking time. It took Shaka far longer to realize this than I thought it would take. I am assuming the boosters at Marquette told him to do it or find another job.

There was a poll done with the players on the Athletic and one of the questions was about tanking. The majority of players polled didn't think it was an issue or was a minor issue.

Very encouraging as I think the revenue split was the blocker during the strike for a salary cap.

To me it makes absolutely no sense to have a minor league team and a major league expansion team in the same city. Why allow for an alternative when you are trying to capture the whole market in that city. It seems very counter productive for your expansion team to be competing against a minor league team. MLB also has more control of the minors than they did when the Rockies were added.
