  1. b) Lopez isn't going to accept arby and we'll net the 2nd rounder for sure, and That doesn't qualify as a slum dunk for me. That's a pricey gamble.
  2. Lopez and Hoffman are they only ones that make slam-dunk senseto offer arby to Why is Lopez a slam dunk, and Cameron is too expensive? The Brewers don't really need Lopez next year, as they have at least two players in Weeks and Casey that can play 2B. The Brewers don't have anyone that can be expected to be even average next year in CF.
  3. Sanchez & Hart go to the Yankees Hughes and a prospect to the Brewers There is no way that the Yankees give up Hughes for Sanchez and Hart. There are enough FA outfielders that the Yankees can get that they don't need to trade for one.
  4. Koshansky was removed some time ago. That being said, it would be preferable to risk losing Green or Wright over Smith at this point, I think.
  5. I think it is safe to say he is a below average fielder, maybe not terrible but below average. If we had a bigger sample, maybe. But this is 43 chances this year. Last year in 16 chances he was perfect. And at 2B this year, he has a 98% FP and above average RF in 100 chances. I think it would be somewhat unusual for someone to be good at 2B and not at 3B.
  6. The point is that most treat him like he has a high ceiling but his current line likely represents his appex and he'll start to fall off. First, I don't see any evidence here that most treat him like he has a high ceiling. Second, if speed ages very well, why will he start to fall off?
  7. Yes he plays a premium position but look what some very accomplished corner outfielders of similar age that are considerably more productive than Cameron offensively got this past offseason (Abreu, Garret Anderson). How long has it been since Anderson has been "considerably more productive than Cameron"? Remember to that Jim Edmonds was forced into retirement after a better season offensively than Cameron's having. Edmonds last year isn't better than what Cameron is doing so far, and he wasn't an asset defensively.
  8. What is the point of this comment? Didn't you just write that speed ages very well?
  9. The best basestealers have been better in their 20s. Even when he develops more power, how much will it be? It certainly is possible that X's contention is correct. I just have don't believe it's a given.
  10. I thought the deal with Jeffress was that he would be needed to be put on the 40 man next year because then he wouldn't be tested for drugs of abuse. IIRC, that would be one year early, but it would prevent him from getting the death penalty. DeFelice has to be mentioned as a good, cheap bullpen find.
  11. I understand that Escobar might become an outstanding player, but his best years will be 2012-2016. How have you convinced yourself this is so certain? Seems like a part of Escobar's value is his speed, and I don't expect that to be as good in 2016. The service time issue certainly deserves consideration. It wouldn't hurt Escobar to spend a couple of more months in AAA and go with Counsell plus other UI (Heether/whoever) until June or whatever.
  12. Softer then Washington and San Diego, where we just went 3-4? I'm fairly confident that I didn't say softer. I also don't believe a week's worth of games tells us more than we already know. Also, Bush should be back later this month and that should definitely help. The Brewers could be an interesting position at the end of this month. If they don't completely fall out of contention, they will be looking at a very tough September where they are competing against teams that look to be playoff bound. If they play well enough, they will be climbing over those teams. Or they could totally tank and win 10 games for the rest of the year. As for other players being traded, we'll have to see how the month plays out. I have doubts as to how attractive Hoffman will be. I think most playoff teams have a closer they are happy with, and I don't think Hoffman would be considered attractive as a setup guy. I doubt Kendall is considered attractive. Maybe if a team's top catchers catch swine flu. Counsell is a good point. I'm so used to people thinking he stinks that I forget that other people can like him. He could definitely be moved for an A ball pitcher lottery ticket, maybe more if a team needs him enough.
  13. Wow, what would have been the package the Brewers would have given up? You have to assume one of the big two was in there, plus Lawrie and a pitcher or two.
  14. The schedule could be soft enough after this week that the Brewers may not completely fall out of contention. I imagine the Brewers don't make a move until the last week of August. Even then, Cameron may be the only attractive piece.
  15. The Hurricane has played 70+ games in the OF, so I would think he could become part of the OF solution. Calling up Katin would require someone to be released from the 40 man. May not be that big of a deal as some probably won't make it to next year anyway.
  16. Gerut in his career has OPSed .649 against LHP. Hall as bad as he has been this year has OPSed .661 against LHP this year and has a career .831.
  17. FA catchers after this season Josh Bard BOS Henry Blanco SD Ramon Castro CWS Ramon Hernandez * CIN Jason Kendall MIL Jason LaRue STL Victor Martinez * CLE Benji Molina SF Jose Molina NYY Miguel Olivo * KC Mike Redmond MIN Brian Schneider NYM Yorvit Torrealba * COL Jason Varitek * BOS Gregg Zaun * BAL * - player whose current contract includes 2010 option
  18. I'd rather trade Hardy and Hart for pitching and a RF while allowing Hall to be the SS. The reality of it is that if we're going to pay Hall's contract, he might as well play for us I would much rather release Hall and have Escobar at SS.
  19. I think some tenses are confusing people here. THe UZR at 3B has been horrible. But it doesn't tell us much about Casey or his future ability. It doesn't mean that he is bad, or will be bad, just that he has been bad. It's as meaningful as a week's worth of at bats.
  20. The Brewers need to bring somebody up, and Hall is the only player on the 40 man that has OF experience. Hall obviously gets starts vs LHP and hopefully doesn't see RHP. He presumably starts tomorrow against Kershaw. Edit: corrected tomorrow's pitcher.
  21. There isn't a pitcher in that group that I am personally looking forward to. Harden doesn't interest me. Too much missed time, and he isn't even good this year. I just don't see much value in that group, unless we get a repeat of this past season where teams don't have that much money to spend. I'm hoping that the Brewers will land a good pitcher with Hardy. With some luck, we could see some minor league arms step up next year when pitchers will get hurt or falter.
  22. It will definitely be one of the stories to follow. I don't know if Casey will be enough to get a good pitcher, but I would hope that he can sweeten the pot if traded with Hardy.
  23. I don't think there's any reason to believe that Melvin doesn't greatly value Escobar's defense. Escobar isn't playing in the majors right now because he wouldn't be an upgrade anywhere for the team.
  24. Cameron is worth that much, because that's what teams typically pay for his level of production. Will he be worth that much in this economy on the market? Probably not. Edit: I just glanced through the outfielders of contending teams, and if the Brewers can't close the gap during August, they should really shop Cameron. Quite a few teams could use him. He would actually be an upgrade for at a corner OF position for some teams that may be in contention at the end of August.
  25. Seems like this is insurance/depth in case Cameron gets traded this month.
