  1. I don't know why it sticks in my head, but when I see Casilla, I think of the game where he and Gomez put down back to back bunts to the left of Todd Coffey - for hits I guess I should add.
  2. I think I'll go with Brian Gorman as my least favorite. There are probably several I am forgetting. Why the strike call though by Davidson? Bah.
  3. To quote Kevin Goldstein, there are a truck load of flaws in defensive metrics. Last season he had several plays where if he just tracked the ball and put up his glove he would have caught it but instead he just threw his arms up. Its one thing to fail to catch the ball, but its another to just run and flail. Its not uncommon for him to get a bad jump or take a bad route.
  4. I asked some Astros fans what they thought of Maysonet's defense and they said he was solid. It seems like they ought to use him more than they do. But as much as Rock is painful to listen to, he's a total company man and he gave the company line last night on the broadcast. Izturis is a good defender and getting any offense is a bonus. I wonder if Bianchi could be a decent SS. But ours in not to question why, ours is to buy tickets and cry.
  5. Morgan is a bad defender. Aoki is a significant upgrade if you ask me. His arm is stronger too. Of course the ball boys probably have stronger throwing arms than Morgan.
  6. I remember Melvin doing radio interviews and talking about how he was offered 5th starter types when he asked for pitching. Given a choice between that and Gomez, I think he made the right choice. Regarding Mench, c'mon didn't he hit a HR in one of his first games and get a curtain call? (kidding) Plus, Rock can go on about hat size.
  7. Nyjer is 3 for 9 versus Pavano so just insert the "we need to get him going" statement in there. I hope there aren't balls sailing over his head and a lot of throws needed.
  8. Bunting with the corners crashing makes my brain hurt.
  9. HRs given up sparks my memory of Loop. He had the lucky rabbit's foot of run support though.
  10. Well 2 teams couldn't score a run on this guy and there's one.
  11. I think its more likely that he was lying rather than disingenuous.
  12. The problem was that Melvin demoted him on the exact day that would give the team another year of control before he went to free agency and then claimed it had absolutely nothing to do with the decision.
  13. Melvin has stated plainly that he doesn't think using rookies in a year when the team is going to compete for and in the playoffs is a good idea. He doesn't like them on the bench either. Other than Lucroy, what is the list of guys Melvin brought up from AA? He also doesn't mind trading prospects. Last season on the tv during an in game interview he said he would just replace them by drafting more players.
  14. Wait, where does Gagne rank?
  15. That is great. The idea of no alcohol isn't going to fly and I'm not sure it should. I never drink at games just because I don't want to miss anything while I'm hitting the loo, but most people don't cause problems. What's the fine for public drunkenness or disorderly conduct or whatever they bang people for these days? Maybe up it.
  16. A sprinkling of good things among some of the negatives. I have a hard time keeping track of all the guys doing well with pitching. If anyone else looked at the second link to Strong's high K effort last season, I'm curious what pitch he's throwing in that picture. Seems like there are more guys hitting - I hope some can do it consistently. Always good to see Yadiel get some hits although he sure is far off.
  17. Lopez went high and tight, lots of jawing and Lopez ended up doing a weird hand gesture where he makes a sideways V and moves it across his eyes. I guess in a way its same ol, same ol but I'll bet its one that plays out more later. I worded that poorly - he hit Hanley
  18. Bud Selig just renewed their contract last season if I'm not mistaken. They're like federal judges - lifetime appointments. Their grading system is a joke.
  19. Did anyone see the highlights of when Wilton Lopez hit Hanley Ramirez?
