  1. I wonder what Snyder's average was before tonight - he's up to .182. maybe I should blame the Rock jinx on Loe.
  2. Wow, I really expected more when Condrad came up - well, since he's done nothing I guess that doesn't mean much. Enjoy Nashville, I know I would Brooks.
  3. I flip on the tv and they're talking about whether Marcum will go. What's wrong with him?
  4. I thought of when Prince and Wally Bell went at it watching him umpire last night. I wonder if they joke about it now. Also Jose Altuve looked like a lawn ornament next to Bell.
  5. MLB doesn't really do much to umps. I believe they are allowed 8 pitches outside what is considered a good pitch which is greater than the strike zone in order to get a passing grade. Those with better grades get to work the playoffs. That really didn't work last season. I don't think people are saying that what he did is justified, just that the unprofessional umpiring triggered it. He threw his helmet at the ground.
  6. Invader, I thought when he got hit on the hand it would have been a good time to DL him. Let him have a few days at home getting therapy there and squeezing in a few casts of the fishing line and then head to Brevard for some rehab starts. He could hang with the youngbloods and get some weaker pitching to just get in the rhythm. As to going to the minors, after his rookie year how often does he even come out of the lineup when he isn't sick or injured? I'd be totally shocked if it happened.
  7. In addition to what pebadger said as to motivation, Selig is in his 80s and to me looks to be on cruise control. I've heard Manfred cited as a likely successor before the whole Braun thing. Getting a "scalp" may have made him more powerful and now rather than be embarrassed at the whole thing, he can use the anonymous sources to define the story and make himself look better. So much depends on what the facts of the case are and now with no report, I'd hope there is information in some book a couple decades from now. As Prince says, "it is what it is."
  8. Marcum isn't going to be cheap either. He wanted top dollar in arbitration. Wolf may be over the hill. Mid rotation guys aren't cheap. I'd guess Marcum plus the next Wolf will cost as much or more than Greinke. I wonder if Marcum has gone through the computerized pitching mechanics evaluation, but his injury risk would have to be part of the formula. Are they going to deal players at the deadline? That just seems highly unlikely unless they are waaaaay back. That would be a game (strategy) changer, but in all likelihood they stand pat or are buyers.
  9. Is he talking about before the trade deadline or in the offseason?
  10. I pretty much agree with everthing that RCC said in post #295. I wish there was a way I could just give a thumbs up to a post - there isn't is there? As to selling before the deadline - the team would have a chance to get a huge haul especially given they have a great pitcher and a closer in a year with all sorts of closer problems plus other parts. But realistically, if the team isn't further back than the Cards were last season, I'd say there is virtually no chance Melvin does it. I'd say its far more likely that he ships off prospects in an overpay for a mediocre veteran or two.
  11. I can't point to actual copy and really all he is doing is stating the obvious, but I get the feeling Heyman is hoping for a juicy off season drama. Maybe its my imagination, but his first story seemed like "you're as good as Cain, don't sign with the Brewers." This one seems like, "forget about them Zach - you're going to be RICH... VERY RICH." I love Prince, but speaking only for myself, I am glad they didn't sign him for 6/120.
  12. What about these possibilities for the delay - a sample exists that is attributed to Braun as well as 2 others. They contain banned substances and by the letter of the law so to speak, they require 50 day suspensions. The levels and other circumstances call into doubt whether they are genuine or deliberately or accidently contaminated. There could be actual investigations into the process and individuals involved in the process, either by law enforcement or a private agency. Or perhaps they don't believe the samples are valid but have to come up with a reason to not follow the rules. Even if it seems highly unlikely and wonky in whatever way, there has to be an explanation for not following the rules.
  13. I think having fantastic defense in center and his baserunning already make him pretty valuable. As for 4th place, outside of multiple injuries I have a hard time imaging how that would happen and I'm pretty cynical.
  14. I could see Peralta coming up late in the season as a reliever. While I could see the season going either way, there is an awful lot of talent on it to have no chance at the trade deadline. If anything, I could see Melvin overpaying with prospects to get another player if there is still a chance.
  15. My impression is that management has a set of beliefs that only allows young players to play at the major league level is if they are star level or the team isn't in a year where they're expected to compete. One exception I can think of is Lucroy and that was a situation where he was chosen as the catcher of the future already and Melvin's choice of a veteran at the end of his career broke down. What was that guy's name? IOW, the formula is young superstars and veterans as fillers. Its why I would expect Corey Patterson to get a call up before Schafer or Gindl. Maybe I'm reading too much into comments like Melvin referring to young ballplayers as "inventory." The recent column by Phil Rogers where he concluded that Braun had "amped up," included a lot of attribution of various player moves to Attanasio. Maybe its more him than Melvin, maybe they're of like mind or like I say, maybe I'm loco! Testimony by my significant other will not be accepted into evidence.
  16. I'd say its more likely that Schafer and Gindl are behind him. He's a veteran, the team is competing and the GM is Doug Melvin.
  17. What you say makes sense to me MNBrew. Also its not as if Aramis is Jed Clampett with his throws. Weeks still insists on doing his underhanded flip into the dugout. Why I don't know, but Bill Schroeder will tell us how hard he's working on that. Then Telly will tell us how hard he's working. Then Melvin the Magnificent will tell us how hard he works.
  18. Other than people here, who keeps calling Green a utility type player?
  19. Being an alcoholic and getting hooked on painkillers you took for pain are two very different situations.
